Thought dump time

For John, SBURB changed him quite a bit. He’s still a jackass, sure, but being put on the same playing field as others, having to cooperate them, and going thru the motions of doing shit like, say, saving a bunch of salamanders? It sorta taught him that the lives of others do have value. It softened him a lot, at least on the inside.

SBURB also ramped up the power difference between him and Jade up to 11. Sure, Jade was the real heiress to CrockerCorp and would always be the one ahead, but her being able to manipulate the very fabric of space and break the rules of it to suit her will? Dear god. John’s always felt insecure compared to her and that really solidified that he’d always be below her in his mind.

Earth C Jade in particular is fucking villainous, but she still loves her brother. And pities him. She truly believes she’s doing what’s best for him by keeping him at CrockerCorp., which juuuust so happens to also fit her agenda. If it came down to it like yeah she would brainwash him but she thinks that would be the right thing to do for him. Case in point her morals are beyond skewed

     John laughs, not in a particularly cruel way, he just found the whole notion that this small box of cupcakes could supply for a party, well... Funny! Dave was really his only connection to the “real world”, so to speak, so a lot of things he said seemed pretty laughable to him - though he already knew some of his life seemed pretty weird to Dave, too. Mostly the fish puns. 

     “Whale, you wanna try one oar what? Go on, I can’t eat ‘em all myshellf.” 

     He insists, beckoning towards the box. Sometimes he wondered what he was doing all this for, walking around these parks in hopes he’d run into this guy, offering him his leftover practice cupcakes. He had plenty of other things he could be doing - movies, magic tricks, coding, pranks, the like - and yet he somehow preferred these small chats he’d have with Dave. What was he getting out of this? Entertainment? ... Approval, maybe? It was unfamiliar territory for him, seeing as his only friend until now had been his sister... But whatever the reason for his coming around time and time again, it was nice. Made him feel just a little less like the Heir to CrockerCorp. and a little more like a normal teenager.
