Artist Statement
Creative Project
I am a contemporary artist working in Glasgow, recently I have been working with a lot of new materials and experimenting with these discovering the textures, functionally, looking at their potential and form. I have been concentrating on making my work more aesthetically appealing I want people to see and feel beauty and Joy in my work, bringing something uplifting to their subconscious. My belief is art should be a form of escapism and visually appealing. I therefore use very vibrant colours and I always seem to go back to using mirrors and chrome finishes in my work, I am addicted to surfaces that reflect light. My work has evolved recently, and I have been paying particular attention to disconnecting and reconnecting playing with forms and merging them together. This piece was inspired emotionally and intelligently by the artist Niki Saint de Phalle it fits in with my current practice of merging forms together.

Creative Project
CAP 3 Angela H Pieraccini
During this module, my mindset and subject area changed from looking at outsider art to asking the question.
Do most artists suffer from mental health issues?
This is now my subject area within my theoretical area of critical practice. Asking this question has greatly helped me with my research and given me a deeper understanding of what can make and drive an artist.
My research started with an installation lecturer through Eventbrite and a study day with SSA called landscape and space both were very motivational especially at the beginning of a module and I find doing these intriguing, extremely helpful and inspiring. It is interesting to see a variety of artworks and to hear about the concepts, motivation behind the artist’s work. Moving on from last block, I wanted to study painters and the history of painting in more depth and I started reading documents of contemporary art- painting by Terry R Myers.
My whole concept this block has been about changing the aesthetic appeal of my art and changing the perception making it become more current in contemporary art. I have paid particular attention to disconnecting and reconnecting forms, to see them differently and evolving my work into becoming more 3D and sculptural, my working process can be evaluated through Tumblr and you will see the progress and development of my work.
My work took a turn in another direction after looking and watching Sarah Crowner work on u tube, she is an American artist who uses tiled floors or walls as part of her installations and these also include a variety of differently sized paintings on the wall and sculptures. This gave me the motivation to try something I have always wanted to do, and it was to use tiles within my art. I have never done anything like this before, but I have always had this underlying ambition to try mosaic tiling. At this point I discovered through my research Nikki de Saint Phalle, and this is an artist I fell in love with instantly, her story and her art, her story is exactly what I was looking for in this module due to the fact she suffered from mental illness and had a breakdown and thereafter discovered art. Her use of vibrant colours is similar within my artwork. “Her art is for everyone, to bring sorrow, contemplation and ultimately JOY”. A theory I strongly believe in that art should create these good feelings and emotions.
My two worlds merged at this point, after running a tiling business it seems like destiny to be working with these materials, so then it started the creative vision, sourcing materials, development work, looking at forms, shapes, colour schemes, planning and working towards the final piece. I have got to admit I genuinely really enjoyed the whole process from start to finish, making mosaic tiles is very therapeutic and I can see the attraction Nikki de saint Phalle must have felt with this medium she worked on her tarot garden for 20years. My sculptures have a deep look into colour, and all have an individual conceptual meaning. I used the mirror mosaic as most of my work involves the use of mirrors or a chrome element and I always enjoy working with materials that reflect the light. And when the light shines on the sculptures is creates even more JOY
I feel I covered a lot of creative synonyms during this module I used my imagination, innovativeness and I feel my sculptural pieces are very original and unique, I turned new and imaginative ideas into a reality.

Final Piece for Base, I will be photographing all the tiled pieces in a forest soon. Unfortatley I need help lifting them into the car, they are so heavy. These will be used as my final portfolio images.
Taking some inspiration from Monika Sosnowska-
Sosnowska studied at the Painting Department of the University of Fine Arts in Poznań (1993–1998), and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam (1999–2000). During her final years at the Poznań academy, she found that the "painting started to escape her canvas."[1] She began to create works that played with both two-dimensional painting and three-dimensional space, finally giving up on canvas altogether and instead using space itself as a sort of three-dimensional painting. Sosnowska treats space as a medium for her works, always designing projects to fit into a specific space. Often she modifies pre-existent architecture, transforming physical space into mental space and playing with the viewer's perceptions. She explained: "I am especially interested in the moments when architectural space begins to take on the characteristics of mental space."

Work development and progress of the tiled floor, in various stages. It is very time consuming using tiled mosaic but very therapeutic.

Found this artist through the modern institute Eva Rothschild. As she uses tiled mosaic in her sculpture, its given me an insight in how this medium can be developed further.
Eva Rothschild-  RA (born 1971) is an Irish artist based in London. Eva Rothschild was born in Dublin, Ireland. She received a BA in Fine Art from the University of Ulster, Belfast (1990–93), and an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmith's College, London (1997–99). Her work is predominantly sculptural and she works across a range of materials including aluminium, jesmonite, leather, fabric and Perspex. She has a materials based studio practice but also works on major public and outdoor commissions. Her work references the art movements of the 1960s and 1970s, such as Minimalism and is also informed by the contemporary aesthetics of protest and spirituality.

Purple is one of favourite colours, it combines stability , royalty, power, and luxury and ambition.
Wisdom, dignity, independence can all bee associated with this colour,  creativity, mystery and magic, again when these mirrors sparkle i am hoping they'll create nice reflections like magic and bring joy.

This sculpture is green and its very down to earth, inspired by nature and when it's in its final surroundings it will represent growth and new beginnings after what we have all been through this year with the pandemic, feel it's the strongest element needed in society .
Tranquillity , good luck, health and refreshing outlook can all be association with the colour green.
Green can also symbolise fertility and have a calming and relaxing effect on the viewer.
I am very much looking forward to seeing these sparkle in the sun outdoors, the reflections they create are magical and bring loads of joy.

This sculpture was inspired by the red sun, most of the particles bounce blue light off them, called scatterings but reflect the red wavelengths.
This is also a reason I've used the mirrored mosaic tiles around the rim of the form.
Red symbolises strength, power, desire, love its an emotionally intense colour, very stimulating and vibrant. This sculpture creates lots of energy.
I then grouted every piece and washed and cleaned them down.
The round the rim of the sculpture I individually stuck down the mirror square mosaic tiles which was very time consuming and I had to be very delicate and careful when placing the pieces and all mirrors are stuck unto the white of the tiles. I am very much looking forward to seeing these sparkle in the sun outdoors, the reflections they create are magical and bring loads of joy.

Next step I made stands for the plasterboard forms from plywood, again this was a bit tricky without a drill.
These photos show my working progress, each sculpture was hand tiled and I hammered the full tiles to create the shapes, forms then using adhesive stuck each piece down by hand.
There's 5 sculptures and each one symbolises colour and a mix of colour which i will go into in more depth.
My inspiration came from Niki De saint Phalle and her tarot garden in Tuscany.
I was constantly cleaning my studio and I suffered from lack of space. also having no exhibition space to showcase the work is a bit concerning but my intention is to photograph final pieces in nature.

Taking inspiration from Sarah Crowners work, I drew out my forms into plasterboard. Unfortunately I had to hand cut them with a Stanley blade which was tricky and I made a fair mess but then again I always do make a mess.
