hey, I have a question
I was baptized as a Protestant and had my confirmation at age 14. right after that I came out and basically drifted away from the church. For quite some time now Christianity and specifically Catholicism has started to be really - for a lack of better words - interesting to me. But I really only have a pop-culture level understanding of Catholicism and don't know if that would actually be a good and joyous path for me that I can faithfully follow.
Basically my question is "how do I know if catholic Christianity is the right religious path for me?"
Have a good day, God bless
I would suggest going to mass and adoration, really test the culture of Catholicism. When you go to mass you can't go up to receive communion yet, just remember that.
You could also pick up a copy of the Catechism, or look for a free one online, this will give you the teachings of the Church so you can research further.
Most importantly spend time in prayer with God, the Holy Spirit will lead you to His Church.
And for what it's worth, Catholicism is the right Church for everyone, but not everyone realizes that. Don't ignore this stirring within your soul to look further into the Faith!

I was Christened Greek Orthodox, however desire to become a Carmelite Catholic. Any advice? Any online resources?
Hmm, I am not a Carmelite myself, so I'm not sure what the process is to join their order. I'm also sure it's a different process to become a monk vs a sister. I suppose you could go to the closest monastery to learn how to join them. The best way to learn how to join them would be to ask them directly.
In order to become a Roman Catholic, which you would want to do before you join the Carmelites, you should contact a priest in a parish in your area. He can set you up for an RCIA class, which is required for converts to the Catholic Faith. Since you're coming from Orthodox, I actually think this process could be very short, since you have probably already gone through many of the sacraments.

What version of the Catholic Catechism should I read? It seems there is some to pick from.
shameless plug: you can go follow my other blog @catholiccatechismclass where i am going through posting daily portions of the Catechism of Saint Pius X and i will be going through all of the major catechisms (albeit slowly so people actually read the posts)
the best one to read is the JPII catechism simply called Catechism of the Catholic Church because it’s the most in depth and has the most footnotes, it’s also one of only 2 universal catechisms ever promulgated (the other is the Catechism of Trent also known as the Roman Catechism)
the Baltimore Catechism is probably the easiest one though, so it might be a good starting point

"If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing." -Corinthians 13:1-3
We must love as Catholics. To reject the tragedy of any suicide is a lack of love. Anon needs to search their heart and learn to feel sorry for the loss of life. Even if you follow every rule and avoid every sin, if you don't have love for others you are not living out your Faith the way that you should be.
am I a bad Catholic if I think only three male suicides have ever been actual tragedies?
Are you saying that the rest aren't? The loss of life to suicide (all of it) is a tragedy which Catholics should recognize and pray about, regardless of the gender of the person committing suicide.
I'm not out to call anyone a "bad Catholic" because only God knows what's in a person's heart, all I know is how Catholics are and aren't supposed to act, and I know feeling apathetic about male suicide ain't it. Generally, if a situation would upset God, it should upset us, as well. And even if we can't genuinely feel upset about something, we should still acknowledge it as something tragic. If a person you didn't know or cared about died a horrible death so you can't feel upset about it, remember that God knew and loved them more than anyone else, and He's probably weeping for them.

Hello sir, even since I read that St. Gertrude’s prayer will release 1000 souls (some say 10,000 souls) I have been trying my best to pray it as much as I can. As I tried reading the history behind the Saint (this is something I love doing) I found it it never stated at all in her diary about this occurring. I also read a post that said this:
“And a summation of the arguments against the claims associated with the prayer:
And so the evidence that I have found can be summarized as follows:
Saint Gertrude’s writings contain nothing about a promise to release 1,000 souls from purgatory each time the prayer is said
There was an epidemic of prayer cards containing false promises and indulgences
The Church has summarily condemned prayer cards containing a promise to release one or more souls from purgatory
The supposed approval by M. Cardinal is dated that exact same day as the approval by Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira of the book Read Me or Rue it, a book by Fr. O’Malley containing the prayer but not the promise
Such an easy way to release 1,000 souls seems inconsistent with the Church’s understanding of purgatory, given that ordinarily to release one soul requires a plenary indulgence which is very difficult to get, and given all the means the Church employs to help the dead such as special masses or indulgences applicable only to the dead.”
I really hope this prayer can release 1000 or 10,000 souls, but I am not sure anymore. I am a bit worried now because I want to do something for the souls in purgatory. Last night I prayed St. Gertrude Chaplet, but now I doubt whether this prayer can do the things it says it can. Do you have advice? God bless you!
Here is the link if you want to read it too: https://romancatholicman.com/wp/st-gertrude-prayer-releases-1000-souls-purgatory/
Hi anon,
I would agree with you that it does seem like this prayer is not meant to set a specific number of souls free from purgatory. I'm kind of surprised because I had heard about this prayer too, but didn't know this might not be true. But after looking into it the claim of 1000 souls doesn't seem to have any Church support.
However this is still a great prayer to continue praying, as you can alleviate some of the suffering of the souls in purgatory and lessen the time that they are there. Jesus told St Gertrude to pray this for a reason. And from I understand He told her that it would greatly lessen the suffering of souls in purgatory. Purgatory is incredibly painful, and its by the grace of God that we have the opportunity to help those in purgatory by praying for them.
So please continue to pray the prayer, with the understanding that although you may not set a certain number of souls free from purgatory every time you pray it, you will be able to help many souls suffer less, and they will be able to get out sooner, even if it is not immediately.

My friend, I am most grateful to you for not being afraid to share the Truth with the world. When Christianity is being pushed down, let us speak louder!
I have a question, and I hope it isn’t ridiculous to ask this. Do you think it’s okay if I just have a Master slave relationship with God, rather than a Father and child. I don’t think I can be His child as I haven’t changed much in these years. He has taken away and done so many good things for me. Yet, I still do so much bad. I think it would be more appropriate if I was formal with God. Not treating my faith in God like a relationship. Would that be sinful, to treat God not like a Father. I certainly don’t act like His child. I think if it is better if I am more strict with my relationship, it might help me to become more fearful and straighten up.
God bless you, thank you, and I am praying for you
Hi anon! First of all thank you very much for that compliment. I certainly love to speak about God and I'm so happy to hear that others like to hear it.
Regarding our relationship with God, we must have a Father and child relationship. God repeatedly calls it that, Jesus refers to the Father as a loving father, and calls Him "Our Father" in the prayer that He taught us. There must be great importance with this terminology tha God chose to use. He also sacrificed for us, and continuously forgives us. He doesn't act like a master in a master slave relationship, and I don't think He would want us to see it that way. In fact I think that master slave relationship is totally void of something incredibly important, love.
I think I'm getting the sense from your question that you feel like you need to somehow earn that relationship with God. I can tell you that none of us could ever earn such and incredible gift. We all fall and we all have issues we need to work on. But God will never see as anything other than His own children. He is a loving and forgiving Father, who also knew that we needed His Only Begotten Son to save us and bring us to Him. He yearns for our salvation, like a father waiting for his prodigal son to return. Instead of trying to force ourselves to be perfect, we need to let Our Lord perfect us.
I think in the Church today there's this false idea that to have a deep relationship with God, we need to reject all that formality and embrace this buddy buddy relationship. I don't agree with that. God gave us formal rules, gave us a Church that gave us formal rules, because it's the best way to get to a deeper relationship with Him. I think there is a lot of familial love in those formal traditions and I think formality is very important in improving our relationship with God. However it must be a child seeking their Father. Not a slave serving a master.
So yes, please do be formal, but do it for the right reasons, because it will improve your relationship with your Father. Because the formalities the Church gives us and you feel called to will give you a deeper love.

the popes gunna die next and catholism will burn with its pedophillic clergy
Everyone is going to die at some point. There’s nothing scary about death, because death isn’t the end. I find comfort in knowing at the moment I die I will see my savior face to face. I will see God for all that He is. My precious Popes will too, for they are human like me, as well as all the clergy and lay persons, all souls believing and non-believing. Christianity remains the most popular religion in the entire world. We aren’t going anywhere. I’m not going to stop loving God because some people sinned. No one can take the place for my love for God. I place you at His feet as I do with all hurting souls like you, so that you may receiving a blessing of peace. Eternal Father, I offer him to You. Amen.
