Iluminismo/ Enlightenment.

“Iluminismo” es un proyecto expositivo en el que se presenta un gesto espacial/experimental muy simple: una sola línea, que atraviesa tres planos distintos de pared pero se mantiene en una misma altura y nivel. Una línea de fuego, generada a partir de cientos de velas, apoyadas sobre una pequeña baldosa que bordea el espacio. Las imágenes generadas, imposibles de prever con exactitud, son la sombra hecha materia, el otro lado de una luz que por un instante se presenta en el espacio.

Este proyecto, al que Marlon de Azambuja ha bautizado con muchos nombres a lo largo del tiempo, empieza en el año 2000, cuando todavía ensayaba sus primeros pasos como artista. Es la primera vez (a pesar de que, según él, siempre ha deseado probarlo) que la línea ocupa todo el espacio. La disposición potencia la idea de paisaje en el horizonte. Un ensayo libre de certezas, planteado desde la experimentación. Mediante a esta intervención, Azambuja busca provocar un encuentro entre personas que simplemente coinciden en un momento y un lugar, y así suscitar una conversación cuyo eco continúe proyectándose en el futuro, paralelo a la voluntad del artista de seguir repitiendo este gesto.

Marlon de Azambuja (Canoas, 1978). Estudió en el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Edilson Viriato en Curitiba, Brasil y desde 2005 vive y trabaja en Madrid.

El aplaudido trabajo de Marlon de Azambuja se ha podido ver en numerosas exposiciones tanto individuales como colectivas en espacios públicos y privados, y se encuentra presente en colecciones de distintos países. Destacan sus muestras individuales en las galerías Instituto de Visión, Revólver o Luisa Strina o en la Kadist Art Foundation (San Francisco), Museo Patio Herreriano (Valladolid), MEIAC (Badajoz) o en Abierto X Obras en Matadero (Madrid).

Su obra figura en colecciones como las del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Paraná, la Fundación Helga de Alvear, el CA2M, el CGAC, el CAAM de Las Palmas, la Nomas Foundation en Roma, la Fundación María Cristina Masaveu o el Ministerio de Cultura, entre otras. A line made of fire, generated from hundreds of candles, resting on a small tile that borders the space. Picnic.

Sala de exposiciones independiente. Septiembre 2021 - actualidad. /////// Self-managed exhibition space. September 2021 - now.

Picnic: Comida o merienda que se lleva y toma en el campo u otro espacio abierto en la que generalmente participan varias personas que se sientan a comer en el suelo / Oxford. La palabra original del francés "pique-nique", significa "elegir un lugar" (un nido) donde la familia o los amigos pueden disfrutar de una comida juntos lejos de las demandas de la vida urbana. Tiene como base cualquier alimento que sea liviano y fácil de transportar, y se espera que cada asistente contribuya con su aportación. No tiene un lugar de ser preestablecido, sino que ocurre allí donde exista voluntad para reunirse. Picnic es una sala expositiva pensada para el diálogo en torno al hecho artístico y el espacio físico en el que se ubica. El interés por el objeto artístico en relación con el espacio expositivo hace que la obra deje de ser entendida como estructura, perdiendo su función y su propia referencialidad para generar un diálogo específico con el medio físico y sus posibles aplicaciones en otros entornos. La sala es un prisma con acceso directo desde la calle, que se erige como elemento arquitectónico no funcional en el que destacan su altura y sus pequeñas dimensiones. La ausencia de medios que lo hagan habitable nos remite a la transitoriedad de un montaje que, a modo de encuentro, ocurre entre artistas, agentes culturales y público. La sala no agota el proyecto, sino que actúa como punto de partida de una iniciativa más amplia. Picnic busca generar un espacio de diálogo sobre sus propuestas. Mediante encuentros con los artistas se procura introducir al público no tanto en la información genérica, que obtiene en cualquier medio, sino en la información de primera mano de los creadores. El diálogo directo entre el público y los artistas plantea un excelente ejercicio de reflexión sobre la práctica artística, su alcance y sus implicaciones. Ubicación: Picnic. The original French word "pique-nique", means "to choose a place" (a nest) where family or friends can enjoy a meal together away from the demands of urban life. It is based on any food that is light and easy to transport, and each attendee is expected to make his own contribution. It does not have a pre-established place to be, but takes place wherever the attendants chose to. Picnic is an exhibition space designed for dialogue around the art object and the physical space where it is located. The limits of the exhibition space makes us look at the artwork in a different light, to the point of bringing changes to its formalization and even making it lose its own self-referentiality to generate a specific dialogue with the physical environment (and its possible applications in other contexts). The exhibition space is a prism with direct access from the street, which stands as a non-functional architectural element of curiously big height and small dimensions. The absence of means that make it habitable refers us to the transience of a setup that takes place between artists, cultural agents and the public. The space does not exhaust the project, but acts as a starting point for a broader initiative. Picnic seeks to generate a space for dialogue around its proposals. By means of creating meetings with the artists, we aim to introduce the public not so much to the generic information, which they can obtain in any media, but rather to the first-hand information delivered by the creators. Para esta exposición hemos utilizado el espacio de nuestro local como referente y material de trabajo, en un sentido plenamente arquitectónico. Tomando distintos elementos estructurales y ornamentales del local y reproduciéndolos de tal manera que queda explicitada la artificiosidad de estas representaciones así como sus problemáticas inherentes, estructura/superficie, función/ forma, etc. También se han creado nuevos elementos en forma de prótesis inútiles que funcionan como estructuras parasitarias, figuras que pretenden suplantar códigos y funciones, que ya forman parte de la historia del arte y la arquitectura, en un intento fallido por participar de la tectónica real del espacio. We have taken different structural and ornamental elements of the space, reproducing them in such a way that the artificiality of these representations is made explicit, as well as their inherent problems, structure/surface, function/form, etc. New elements have also been created in the shape of useless prostheses that function as parasitic structures, figures that seek to supplant codes and functions, which are already part of the history of art and architecture, in a failed attempt to participate in the real uses of the space. Este curso intensivo tuvo como objeto reunir a artistas y fotógrafos residentes en Madrid. Los participantes pudieron mostrar su trabajo y compartir sus experiencias a lo largo de todo el proceso productivo, bajo la guía y asistencia del fotógrafo Wolfram Hahn, ganador en 2011 del World Press Photo Award . Finalmente, el trabajo realizado se expuso en una muestra colectiva.

El objetivo del taller era identificar y explorar lo cotidiano. Esto es, analizar las distintas formas en las que los individuos utilizamos el espacio (urbano, doméstico...) aprehendiendo, por medio de la cámara, interacciones y deliberaciones que normalmente pasan inadvertidas.

El taller tuvo un carácter crítico y técnico. Los alumnos contaron con cinco sesiones críticas de tres horas de duración, para poner en común sus observaciones y beneficiarse de las aportaciones de Hahn y de los compañeros.

Wolfram Hahn vive y trabaja en Berlín. Ha expuesto su trabajo en una nutrida cantidad de museos y galerías, entre las que se encuentran CO-Berlin, Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt/Main, Belfast Exposed, galerie du jour/agnes b. Paris, Starkwithe Gallery Aukland/New Zealand. En 2011 recibió el World Press Photo Award y fue nominado para el premio Unicef Photo of the Year en 2007.  En 2015 publica “Draussen Dehors Outside” con Vexer Verlag Büro Berlin; libro que a su vez que a su vez recibe dos importantes reconocimientos: Die Schönsten Deutschen Bücher 2016 & Deutscher Fotobuchpreis 2017.

Constelaciones imprevistas/ Unforseen constellations.

Como la distribución azarosa de los objetos en un desván, acumulados fruto de una suma de decisiones apenas meditadas, esta muestra nace del encuentro casual de un grupo de artistas de distinta procedencia, y se da en un lugar intermedio entre lo fortuito y lo pretendido. Este encuentro tiene lugar a partir de la convocatoria Se Buscan Artistas, abierta en enero de 2018, que tenía como propósito reunir en una exposición obras de artistas jóvenes que no hubiesen trabajado previamente con la plataforma. La configuración última de la exposición no es ya un hecho azaroso. La confluencia de los artistas en este espacio está mediada por el criterio de los integrantes de la plataforma, que han tratado de organizar esta heterogeneidad conforme a sus propios intereses como artistas, radicados en las propias idiosincrasias del hacer y la disposición última de las formas y sus ritmos. Con este gesto organizador, que atraviesa el conjunto de las obras por puntos comunes a todas ellas y permeables a nuestros intereses y afectos, estas quedan hilvanadas por una lógica compartida que las convierte en un grupo coherente. A su vez, cada una de las piezas expuestas ha experimentado un gesto similar en su propia formalización, ya que han sido organizados un conjunto de elementos disímiles en una negociación con el azar a la manera en que se cartografían los astros, mapeando y organizando unos elementos dados, conforme a las propias expectativas.

/////// Like the haphazard distribution of objects in a storage room, accumulated as a result of a sum of barely thought-out decisions, this exhibition is born from the casual encounter of a group of artists that come from very different backgrounds. Something which occurs somewhere between the fortuitous and the intended. When we opened up our call for artists in January 2018, our purpose was to bring together in an exhibition works by young artists who had not previously worked within the platform. The final configuration of the exhibition is no longer a random event. The confluence of the artists has been mediated by the criteria of the members of the platform, who have tried to organize this heterogeneity according to their own interests as artists, rooted in the idiosyncrasies of practice and the ultimate disposition of the forms and their rhythms. This organizing gesture goes through the set of works, uniting them in a set of points close to the curator’s interests and affections, until they seem woven together by a shared logic that makes them a coherent group. In turn, each of the individual works has undergone a similar process in its own formalization, since in each and every one of them, a set of dissimilar elements have been organized in a negotiation with chance. One Leg Has Been Broken, But Superglued Into Place.

Esta es la primera exposición individual de Sarah Entwistle en Madrid. En su reciente trabajo, explora el papel del amateur como usuario de eBay en su obsesión por la documentación de objetos DIY dentro de un entorno doméstico. La exposición utiliza obras escultóricas y de vídeo para recrear escenarios inverosímiles, aludiendo de forma constante a la simulación para evocar obsesiones infantiles y retrotraerse a la búsqueda perdida de la libertad y el deambular. Exposición colectiva celebrada con motivo de la inauguración del espacio físico de Vértice, una plataforma de arte contemporáneo que creé en septiembre de 2015 en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Madrid. Esta plataforma estaba dirigida a  impulsar el inicio de la trayectoria profesional de alumnos de bellas artes, acercarlos al mundo profesional y ponerlos en contacto con jóvenes coleccionistas.
