It's wild to me when people try to frame their dislike of a fictional character as objectively correct by citing how they imagine that character would behave in some hypothetical circumstance. Like, you're not even making up a guy to get mad at – you're taking a guy who's already made up, making up a second guy based on the first made up guy, then getting mad at the second made up guy.

Hate hate hate the phrase "media consumption" because

It acts like all media is for entertainment only, as if educational nonfiction things like documentaries, books, podcasts, etc aren't media too.

It treats entertainment as something evil and "brain rotting" and not a thing that people naturally crave for stimulation.

It doesn't differentiate at all between "passive" forms of entertainment media like tv and "active" forms like video games despite people's claims that their hatred of "media consumption" is about a "mindless" lack of participation and activity.

It includes any "media-related" hobbies like creating art about beloved shows and games because people see fandom as inherently corrupting and mindless.

It's a big fuck you to the artists who put their passion and love into the "mindless" media that people sneer at so much.

It's a pointless fucking phrase that riles people up while meaning absolutely nothing, giving people the opportunity to stroke their own egos over how they're so much better than those who are suffering from "media consumption brain rot" without ever actually defining what "media consumption" is.

Like I genuinely do think people should have physical hobbies that don't require a phone or computer but that's not because of "fandom brain rot" or whatever, it's because our primate brains love doing stuff with our hands and sometimes you just gotta play in some dirt or make a glitter jar or something so that you don't lose your mind like a chimpanzee trapped in a dog crate.
