Poll: What is Thrawn?
So, this poll is inspired by my mom. She recently finished all six canon Thrawn books, but her first experience with him was the original Thrawn trilogy when it first came out. So she's been a (casual) fan of him for a while. She loved seeing him in Rebels, and so before Ahsoka comes I convinced her to read the new books. (She says she has a hard time with the tie in books because they never match her headcanons and how she interprets their personalities; indeed, Alliances, being the book with the most mainline Star Wars character in it, was her least favorite.)
We were talking last night, and she mentioned that she's glad I pushed her to read the books, she really enjoyed them, and she really loves a complex and morally grey villain.
"I don't know, I don't think of Thrawn as a villain," I say, "to me, he's too complex to be labeled hero or villain."
"He's absolutely a villain," she replies. She states that Thrawn is complicit in what the Empire does, and no matter how noble and good his goals are, no matter how heroic his actions are in the Ascendancy trilogy, he's still a villain because of that.
So, that made me start to think. I know a lot of Thrawn fans in the circles I run in think of him as at *least* an anti-hero. I've been on Chisstwt for a year or two now, but I'm fairly new in the Tumblr Thrawn fandom (Thrawnblr? Chissblr?), so I wanted to get some actual numbers. I'll still be asking on Twitter, too!
And please, feel free to elaborate on your answer!
! PLEASE REBLOG TO REACH THE MOST AMOUNT OF THRAWN FANS !

I am so excited for this show! Vernestra is my favourite Phase One character besides Reath, Zeen, Burry, Bell, Loden, and Leox, Geode, and Affie.
Also can we please get Geode in Young Jedi: Adventures?

Star Wars: The High Republic: Cataclysm review
The characters of Phase II continue to bring me joy. This phase has been so fun, and I love reading about my faves Gella, Aida, Creighton, Axel, Xiri, Phan-tu and QN-1. The whole story around them is just beautiful.
I loved Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton’s young adult novel Path of Deceit, especially the story surrounding the Path and the planet of Dalna.
Seeing the Path of the Open Hand’s story continue in this book was very intriguing and makes them one of my favourite villains. The Mother particularly reminds me of Emperor Palpatine, with the way her hair goes darker the more she’s with the Nameless.
Don’t go in expecting more from Marda and Yana, as their story finishes in Path of Vengeance. But, you can absolutely expect Yaddle. She is awesome, and i can imagine that green puppet talking and jumping and fighting.
I love the epicness in this book. So much action and one of the most epic battles in Star Wars. I was on the edge of my seat, taking in all the scenery and brilliance of lightsabers and emotions galore.
This is the Revenge of the Sith for the prequel era of the High Republic. It is so fun. So awesome. Tragic. But also, very moving and wholesome at times. It’s typical Star Warsy fun!
The Axel and Anakin Parallels are awesome, considering Axel’s story throughout Convergence and Cataclysm is built upon making mistakes.
It’s characters like Axel that have enamoured me with The High Republic: Phase II
Tumblr media
I am stoked to read Path of Vengeance by Cavan Scott. It’s been a short phase, but I really loved it.
Tumblr media
I would love for a tv show to focus on the High Republic Phase II era. It would be awesome. Just lots of stories could stem around the Path of the Open Hand, one of the coolest and intriguing parts of this Phase. The cult-like demeanour of the Path and it’s loud opposition to the use of the Force is something that I’ve been wanting: more Force sects other than the Sith or the Jedi.
This Phase has done at lot on shedding light on the various Force related cults or sects. The Church of the Force, the Brotherhood of the Ninth Wind, the Sorcerers of Tund, I can definitely see a Convocation spin-off. Maybe about other Force sects. Lots of room for stories.

My headcanon is that when the firebrands teamed up, Vernestra was there too, so she learnt from them as well. Like Ahsoka learning from Obi-Wan in Clone Wars.
so clearly vernestra rwoh is extraordinarily accomplished and talented and amazing and a badass with a lightsaber whip.
but i have to think that at least a small part of the reason she became a jedi knight so young is because she didn’t just have stellan gios as her master, she had avar and elzar as her unofficial masters too. it’s a package deal type situation with those three.
so while most other padawans would occasionally get free time whenever their masters were busy, vernestra’s training never really paused because avar/elzar would just take over for stellan (against his wishes and/or knowledge, typically). they considered it their moral duty to broaden her knowledge in ways that stellan never would (some - stellan - might call it “corrupting” her mind, but really who’s to say which is correct?).
and whenever stellan referenced “my padawan” when talking to avar/elzar, you just know that they would stop him and say “no stellan, OUR padawan.” and he would look very offended each time and say “no, no, she’s MY padawan, if you want one then go ask the council for your own –” and then avar/elzar would just run away from the conversation.
in conclusion, vernestra rwoh is the unofficial child of the polycule.

STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC | TY YORRICK
Ty Yorrick is a former Jedi now living her life as a saber for hire, specializing in monster-hunting.  Although considered a loner, Ty has two droids, an astromech with the temperament of a loyal canine and a protocol droid that chides Ty for being more machine than she is.  Ty was a promising young Padawan until she mysteriously abandoned the Jedi Order, leading them to question if she is even alive.  While they contemplated her true fate, Ty adapted her old Jedi skills for new purposes.  Her path would again converge with the Order, who are now wary of Ty’s true allegiances.

I made these High Republic posters in the style of the theatrical posters for Star Wars.
I especially like The Fallen Star poster, with Leox in the middle with Geode. I might do another one for Into the Dark, Out of the Shadows, Midnight Horizon and Path of Deceit/Vengeance.

Ember and R2-D2 are very similar.
They’re both loyal to their companions and they protect and attack when necessary.
Tumblr media
For me, the High Republic characters reflect the characters of the Skywalker Saga. Elzar Mann is like the Han, Bell is the Luke, Avar/Ty/Affie are the Leia, Ember is the R2, and Burry is the Chewbacca. It’s not a perfect parallel, but it is cool to think about.
Of course, the characters also connect to the protagonists of the prequels and sequels.
Elzar is very much an exploration of what would happen if Anakin and Kylo lived in the golden age of the High Republic. In many ways, Stellan Gios is definitely the Obi-Wan of the Light of the Jedi trilogy, and Padme is Avar.
Obviously, it’s all different, but the paralells of Star Wars are often what make it Star Wars. Even minor parallels like Leox and the rest of the Vessel crew being reminiscent of the Falcon.
Tumblr media
Starlight Beacon also seems like the Death Star’s antithesis. It’s a beacon of hope for the galaxy. Even the opening crawl for Light of the Jedi seems like it reminds me of the A New Hope crawl.

Particularly when it’s talking about Starlight. Then look at A New Hope’s crawl.

Shadow of the Sith is awesome!
Let’s just say that reading it feels like I’m stepping into the old VHS tape I used to have of the original trilogy when I was as a kid.
A lot of colourful and awesome places and characters that I would love to see again (or not).
It is a must read for fans of the sequel trilogy, and features some lore, backstory into Luke’s Jedi Temple and the New Republic. It really fleshes out the sequel trilogy, much like the Clone Wars did for the prequels.
It follows Luke and Lando’s adventures that were mentioned in The Rise of Skywalker movie.
Shadow of the Sith has some awesome new planets, most of which are among my favourite planets now.
Tumblr media
There’s a heap of lore surrounding Rey and her parents. It makes everything so much sadder, knowing what happens in this book.
Lando and Luke’s teamup is awesome. Both are chaotic together, and Lando’s ship, one of my favourite starship designs, is featured prominently in this book.
Tumblr media
There are a lot of lightsaber duels in the book. One of the main antagonists, Kiza, has such a sad backstory and it’s just so tragic it made me cry. But they are awesome and it’s a nice callback to Aftermath. I’d completely forgotten about until I reread Aftermath.
It’s just so fun! Go read it!
