Ted Williams Makes History
In 1947, Ted Williams won the high coveted Triple Crown.  This award is not given to someone each year, the honor is earned by a player leading his league in bating average, home runs, AND RBIs.  This award is quite a rare feat in Major League Baseball.  Ted Williams is one of just two men (the other is Roger Hornsby) to win this award twice.  The site in my source shows a list of all of basbeall's triple crown winners in history.

Baseball in the 1930s
The 1930s was a much different time in baseball than the Golden Age of the 1920s.  The Great Depression that started in 1929 took its toll on Major League Baseball.  Attendance thinned as fans could not afford the luxury of watching their favorite teams play.  Player salaries did not dip, but they did stop rising as they had throughout the 1920s.
