“It was!” Clara exclaimed happily, “I’ve never gotten to do anything like this before, I’m so excited!”

Clara looked down, feeling guilty that she had hurt him by what she did. “I really am sorry, I never meant to hurt you. I’ll never leave you like that again. Us against the world now, right?” she asked looking back up with a small smile at the end. Even if her parents hadn’t started to back off a little in their control, she knew that she could handle anything as long as she was with Colin, and he was okay.

Colin nodded a few times as they left through the door, and he pulled it closed with his foot so they wouldn’t have to stop. He knew she would figure it out on the way to the picnic, but that wasn’t the point. The point was that it was going to be a fun afternoon with just her and some movies and food… that he’d admittedly spent quite a while getting ready. “Well you’re back now, and so it’s all okay.” Maybe now, with the concussion and the arm sling, his dad would lay off. Hopefully, anyway. “It was hard without you being around all the time, I won’t deny that.”

“I’m so excited, Colin!” she said happily, pulling away just enough to press a quick kiss to his lips, “I’m going to rehearse like crazy, I want it to be perfect. Will you help?”

Colin laughed and hugged her tightly, kissing the top of her head and smiling down at her. “Of course you got it! I told you. I totally called this.”

“I did!” she exclaimed, bouncing happily before running to hug him. “I practiced forever, but I didn’t really think I would get it!”

Clara laughed softly “I can deal with that, I guess.” she said as she took his hand and headed towards the door. “I missed this.” she said, briefly leaning her head on his shoulder as they walked, “I can’t believe I was so stupid, I never should have left you.” she added. Though the freedom might have been thrilling while she was gone, she knew living without Colin never would have felt right. “I don’t think I really know how to function without you anymore. I guess that happens when you know someone basically your whole life.”

Colin grinned at the look she gave him and nodded, waiting for her to grab a coat and leaning on the door frame. This was just so nice… and because of the sling and the concussion, his dad had been leaving him alone since he got back from the hospital… which amazing. “I think you’ll probably figure it out on the way, but other than that, nope.” He told her simply and reached to take her hand, glad they were able to do this.

Clara nodded softly, taking in a breath before giving the older boy a shaky smile, “Yeah, yeah, sure.” she said after a moment. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I’ve even introduced myself. I’m Clara.”

Evan looked at the girl, and he felt sorry for her. He could not even begin to imagine how horrible she must be feeling. “I’m sorry to hear that..” He told her. “Do you want to get some coffee and wait with me?”

Clara gave her boyfriend a curious look, but couldn’t help but grin. She loved it when Colin decided to surprise her and she was thrilled that he was recovering enough to be able to. “Alright, I think I have one in the closet here.” she said as she moved for the coat closet in the hall, moving a few things around before pulling out a lightweight black jakcet. “So, do I get a hint other then it apparently involving us being outside?” she asked.

Colin smiled when he saw the door opening and hugged her back tightly with the arm not in a sling. “I’m not.” He told her with a big smile on his face. He hardly ever was able to plan this kind of thing without her finding out about it first, so he was just excited for her reaction. “You’re gonna need a hoodie or something though, it’s cold out.” He said casually as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Honestly though, he was just so glad to have her back and the fact that he was able to plan this kind of thing for them was amazing.

Clara frowned in confusion when the doorbell rang, wondering who was there. Her parents were both working, which truthfully was how it usually was so she was home alone, again. She made her way towards the front door, peaking out the window next to it first and grinning when she spotted her boyfriend. She opened the door quickly and instantly pulled him into a hug before giving him a quick kiss, “I didn’t know you were coming over!” she said happily before motioning for him to come inside.

Colin was excited. He’d only been out of the hospital for a few days and, sure, he and Clara had hung out at each others’ houses and at school so far, but they hadn’t had an official date since before she left. And it was time to change that. So, he’d spent all morning getting everything ready up the street in a hidden spot, and just hoped that it would all work out. Thank god her house was just across from the park, and therefor the simple hiking trails. No one was really using them this time of year, and it was perfect for his idea.

The brunet walked up the driveway and to his girlfriend’s front door, taking a deep breath before ringing the bell. All he knew was that Clara didn’t have plans, he was just hoping she’d be okay with a little date. One of his other hopes was that she would answer the door instead of one of her parents; he liked them, of course, he just hadn’t seen them since before the shooting and was hoping to hold off a little bit. Today was about he and Clara.

Clara nodded quickly, “Exactly, I hated the classes at my old school. I don’t care if I was good at it, it was all just ... boring.” she agreed, “But I think anything would be better then just sitting at home now.”

“And in classes you actually want to take. That makes a big difference. It’s just far too quiet at home.”

Clara took in a deep breath and nodded, “Yeah, he, um, he was leaving a message on my phone when ... when it happened. Gunshots, then nothing else. And they said he’s here, it’s just ... not visiting hours.”

“Yeah me too..” He said, not sure even who he was looking for. Evan looked at her a little, knitting his eyebrows together. “Did something happen to him for sure?”

Clara sucked in a sharp breath at his questions, “I heard gunshots. And then .. then you stopped talking. I was so scared.” she admitted, closing her eyes for a moment as she remembered thinking that she could have just heard his last words, that he could be dead.

Colin nodded a little bit at her words. The moment that he’d heard the first of the gunfire go off… that had made his heart stop, honestly. “Did you… did it just go dead, or did you hear it?” He asked hesitantly, not sure how much she would have heard over the phone. “Yeah, definitely.”
