I'm glad they're re-prioritizing what they do with the way lore is incorporated into site updates. It sucks that they were so crunched with the short stories--especially with everyone taking on so many roles site-wise--and I hope moving forward they'll be able to stress less and we'll get some really cool, more concrete stuff.

#I know I've complained at LENGTH about how staff handled/handles BotE #and like. some of that complaining might have come across as mean-spirited toward staff. which it wasn't meant to be #crunch time is a bitch after all #but all in all I'm hyped for the next ancient #I'm still crossing my fingers we get a dinosaur-or-dinosaur-adjacent ancient that'd be sick

I made a suggestions thread for this a while ago and it got locked because "please submit concerns regarding how the game is run through Contact Us" etc etc But I'm saying it again.

They reaaaaallly need to slow down on Ancient release, do like four times the QA they already do, run everything through sensitivity readers, communicate more with each other (e.g. don't put dragons with bugged genes in roundsey), use more references when designing genes, etc. before ANYTHING is released to the players. This is getting really old.

Easier said than done and easy to say when I’m just a player, but SOMETHING in their process is broken and it NEEDS to be fixed.

#i know this is about auraboas and more generally rushed artwork and too many errors but like. in general. #i'm not as active on FR as I used to be and the ancients have been coming out WAY too quickly to actually be tenable #I still don't have any *veilspuns* that I like much less any other kind #there have to be better ways to introduce more content to the site than just 'throw another ancient on there' #ESPECIALLY with the rushed lore #I feel like more focus should be put on shoring up the lore that exists. adding more content to do with that. #finish up the beastclan revamps. remember the beastclan revamp(s)? remember those? #focus on adventure mode if you're going to dangle the tidelord over everyone's heads until it releases #also. tidelord. is still gone. has been gone for YEARS of real actual non-game real life time and there has been NOTHING. #you can't just introduce a bunch of dangling threads with BotE and never do a single thing with any of them ever.

#just dont vibe with the writing style mostly #that and the fact i don't think a site predicated on user-created dragon characters needs short stories at all #the lore encyclopedia is neat and fine but the site doesn't need stories in a set timeline about set characters #especially when it comes to stories where the status quo is vastly different 'before' and 'after' the story's events (i.e. tidelord) #(i still can't believe they never fixed the tidelord thing)

Whatever y'all do, do not let this go from "hey here's a critique on this short story, y'all may have accidentally fallen into some harmful tropes" to dogpiling staff, calling them racist, turning this from a critique into a mob clamoring for them to make it perfect immediately and reading into the existing version in bad faith.

I can see why the resolution of the short story would trip alarm bells and could use another draft, but the Tumblr Post Going Around digs way too deep in some places and I think we all gotta tone it down a little bit before this becomes a game of drama telephone that ends in a massive overreaction

(In games of internet telephone like this there's the compulsion to join in the discussion just so you can pre-emptively let people know what side you're on in case it ever does become an argument with distinct sides. Which it shouldn't. But it feels like it could give way to internet fisticuffs and staff accusations if we're not careful)

I LOVE the various prehistoric themes of the Arlo digs. I love them so so much.

I wonder if we'll get any more specific ones? We've got the mesozoic one, we've got two cenozoic ones, we've got one nebulous ocean one (trilobites and what look like lobe-finned fish? could be mesozoic as well but could also be, like, devonian-ish) Will they go further back? Maybe some kind of cambrian critters? I want an anomalocaris familiar undel please
