Patience Grows in the Garden
Patience grows as we garden It is something every gardener experiences in their lifetime. Patience can be found in a simple bulb, plump tuber, or visually barren pot. This act of faith and perseverance is key to the gardens we dream about during the off-season. How much does it take to endure waiting for the promise of beauty? In my case, it started with a few peony roots I found in my garden…

Grounding - Rituals of the Garden
Grounding is a ritual which calms the spirit allowing one to be present in the moment. Grounding is an act of connecting with the earth for many people who garden. This is a ritual I have practiced for years. I was introduced to the act of grounding, while living in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Much needed peace and healing , was discovered in my garden, with a bit of advice from Miss Maude. My…

Anemone coronaria- Strength in a Winter Bloom
Unexpected gifts from Mother Nature are special...if you go outside and open your eyes...like the Anemone.
Anemone coronaria is not a common flower when one considers winter blooming plants. Intrigued with the noticeable swelling pod to this morning’s delightful bloom, I simply had to share. My infatuation with Anemone happened when I noticed a peculiar pod in a planter sitting on the front stoop. Longing for a brief winter in anticipation of finishing a specific garden project, I began to watch this…

Purple in the Garden of Life
Purple in our life gardens can often be empowering. When intentionally included in an arrangement, it shares a sentiment of deep love. Purple in the garden is revered and truly should not go unnoticed. Ever since I watched the original movie, The Color Purple, inspired me to include purple in my garden for what it represents. Many gardeners include this color for balance, harmony, or perhaps…

Fall in Love with Fall
Fall in love with Fall. This is easy to do if you plant late blooming Perennials. Fall is usually a time when most gardeners are busy pulling spent annuals or cutting back plants that have outgrown their space in the garden. I’d like to encourage gardeners to stop, pause, or even procrastinate while in the garden. In our minds, there is so much to do. My question is, why? Why does Fall make some…

Roots - Uncovering a New World
Roots are a part of anything that grows. To encourage strong growth above ground, one must attend to the roots. Good soil allows roots to move freely, take hold, and absorb all the benefits available. An event last year encouraged me to dig deeper and uncover unknown facts about roots. Not just any roots, but MY ROOTS. Denise’s Roots In late September of 2022, I embarked on an adventure with a…

Interplanting - Implementing Diversity in the Garden
Interplanting is an underused practice in the garden. Most seasoned gardeners are aware of the benefits of this practice. For most small space gardeners or beginning gardeners, this is a game changing technique. Merriam Webster defines interplanting as a way of planting a crop between plants of another kind. Sounds simple but there are a few methods to this value added way of increasing the…

There are times in life when the world moves too fast. Keeping up can be a challenge, then nature reminds us of the beauty that surrounds us. This beautiful Crroe Myrtle shows off her bloom everytime I pass the window. You might not notice the yellow ray of sunshine in the midst if the red bloom. The yellow center calls me to proceed with caution. If I don't go outside to enjoy this bloom now, summer will be gone. I am so drawn to this bloom, I will make time to sit beside this tree, before it is too late. Embrace the beauty it has chosen to slow me down. I will also say Thank You to this earth of ours, for providing beauty that feeds our souls. Do you pay attention to the message from the garden? When life moves too fast, do you sit with nature and embrace the calm? #allaboutthegardenlife #allthingsbeautiful #gardenbliss #gardenconversations, #embracingthebeautythatsurroundsus #crepemyrtlelove (at Prince George's County, Maryland) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChuMKIau7ed/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Are you enjoying your flowers? Are you remembering which ones catch your eye? Does that bloom drop seeds? If you are like me, a flower that is willing to share seed, is my kind of flower. Celosia...a bloom that keeps on giving is a showstopper. Many say it resembles brains. My mom called them Cock's conbs. In my mind, they are my velvet wands. I wave them over a bare spot in my garden early in spring. Once they poke through the soil, I merely wait for the magic to begin. Will they be the same cir as the bloom I harvested from? Not always. Will the bloom be beautiful? Yes Are you a seaver? Do you enjoy harvesting the memory of the bloom? Do you incorporate space in your garden that grows seeds of seasons past? #seedsaving #allaboutthegarden #allthingsbeautiful #seeds #celosia #sowingseedsforthefuture (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChkvnSgOstw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Creating places to pause is necessary in a proper garden. That's just my opinion. In Jenny Rose Carey's garden, the opportunities to pause were perfectly placed. I sat here and reflected on my journey, in the cool shade, on a hot day in Pennsylvania. Do you have places to pause in your garden? #allaboutthegarden #allthingsbeautiful #alwaysthinkingaboutthegarden #placestopause #jennyrosecarey (at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChE0McXuS_K/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Farmer Teri here - 26 Shishito Peppers, 4 Poblano, 2 Fiesta Peppers, 2 Tomaters, and a stringbean...I am satisfied after the irregular temperatures, irregular rain and me traveling. Do you plant for your lifestyle? Is going away for a weekend or two problematic? Do you worry about watering while you are away? #rethinkyourgarden Consider rethinking what you are planting at the beginning of the garden season to reduce your stress throughout the garden season. If you travel during the hotter months, think about planting peppers. They thrive on heat ! Rethink how many tomato plants you really need and think about if you can provide consistent watering. As our temperature is in flux, we are warmer. Tomatoes need a consistent amount of water each week to prevent cracking. Rethink how you garden...I did! #allaboutthegardenlife #allthingsbeautiful #allaboutthegarden #growiteatit #pepperlove #knowwhatyougrow (at Prince George's County, Maryland) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChDyrxtO2J3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
