Reflection
Well people. This is the last blog that I will be making. I am not sure if I want to come back to this blog. This blog was for school assignments. I can honestly say I enjoyed writing everything in here. I love guitar and rock and roll, so it was really fun to express that love for it in this blog. I did not have the chance to write a lot about guitar equipment and accessories. Maybe in like a couple of years I will come back and read this blog of mine. Maybe then, I will decide to continue writing. The thing is, I would rather play more guitar and learn more about music theory rather than spending time writing about the instrument and its history, techniques, and gear. One thing that I take away from this blog is that I do believe that writing is one of the best ways to express your feelings about anything and everything. I am not sad that I am ending this blog. If anything, I am glad. I am glad because this means that school is going to end soon. I will continue to write. I will never stop writing. I will continue to write for as long as my hands work. I love the freedom of creativity and the freedom of writing. Writing gives me a chance to tell stories of my own, and to tell stories of others. It also gives me the chance of writing fictional stories of my choice. Writing and reading is unlimited, and it can be explored forever.

James Hetfield
Tumblr media
James Alan Hetfield is the rhythm guitarist for the band, Metallica. He was born on August 3rd, 1963 in the town of Downey, California. He was raised by Christian Scientist parents, whose strict religious discipline and lack of trust in modern medicine would influence many of his songs. Hetfield’s first introduction to music was when he started taking Piano lessons at nine years old. He then went on to playing drums throughout his preteen years. He first started playing guitar around 14 years old. He started first with an electric guitar and would play in bands throughout his high school years. After high school, he went on to form Metallica with drummer Lars Ulrich. Those two are the only original members of the band to still be in it until this day. As of now, Metallica has 10 studio albums and 43 singles, and many other forms. Hetfield is 87th on the Rolling Stone’s TOP 100 GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME.

Polyphia
Polyphia is a rock band that was formed in 2010 and is based in Dallas, Texas. They are known for creating progressive rock and math rock music. The band was created by Tim Henson and Scott LePage during their high school years. They were both guitarists however and needed a bassist. Clay Gober took on bass in 2012. Brandon Burkhalter was the original drummer, but he left in 2014. Members have moved in and out of the band, but Tim Henson and Scott LePage always stayed in the band. They started off as a heavier metal band, but around 2016, they started to move into steadier, more melodic sounds. They created math rock incredibly well. If you don’t know what it is, math rock is a certain style of rock where the notes have drastic changes in sequence, while continuing to stay in the same tone. Most of the time math rock has a softer tone, and it is meant to be really melodic and fluid. Polyphia gets its inspiration from all genres of music. Pop and Rap are a huge influence in their style, while heavy metal techniques are what they use when making their songs. In order to keep music the focus, most of their songs do not have lyrics in them. It is purely electric guitar and drums.

I Play
When I grab my strat
I sit back and relax
I feel the strings
That lie on the frets
I feel and hear the music it brings
I play notes and then chords
I play on my own accord
My fingers dance along
The Fretboard
These songs I play
are sad and gloomy
But sometimes these solos
are quite a doozy
I play Hendrix
I play Metallica
I play Rhodes
I play Pantera
I play Slayer
I play anything that pleases me
Fast paced like Herman Li
I love what I play
That’s all I have to say
When I play my heart away

A Perspective of Guitar: by Guest Blogger Cory Lee
Tumblr media
Guitar is great and it is something that I admire. I would have learned to play the guitar as well but I just didn't have the feeling of commitment to learn it. I did learn for a little bit and it was pretty fun stretching my fingers to get the note and playing it. Hard rock was something I had some interest in mostly because I enjoyed that one part in Spongebob where they sing in the stadium. This was when I was around second grade. Though as time passed my interest started to deteriorate but it still remains as one of the greatest instruments that was created because of its powerful tone. I think the guitar is great but what's greater is the guitarist because the spirit they give is pretty cool and awesome. Some guitar players have unique plays like Jimi Hendricks who was a great electric guitar player. Overall guitar is a great instrument and probably the best instrument to put emotion on because it helps define a feeling through playing. I think everyone should have some sort of knowledge about guitar because it is a great instrument and its an instrument to express yourself about music.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s perfect combination of country, blues, and rock.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is known as one of the best American rock bands, but a lot of people disagree on what they actually are. Are they a country band with a rock sound, or are they a rock band with a country sound. Well they are both correct. The band’s blend of the two genres are so good that people just don’t know what is what. That is how they wanted it to be. They didn’t want either to be fully country or fully rock or fully blues. What they wanted was rock instruments with southern twang, with a mix of blues. You would probably just say, “Oh, that’s just rock with a country sound.” No, country isn’t necessarily only the South. The band specifically makes it Southern, and that is where people think it is country. A band’s roots and origins do not define its genre.

Conversation
Me: Josh, do you play any instruments?
Josh: I play Xylophone.
Me: What can you play on the Xylophone?
Josh: Nursery rhymes.
Me: Josh, you should play Bom Soro on the Xylophone.
Josh: That sounds like a great idea.
Me: I know, any instrument can play anything, you just have to find out how.
