Congrats to Amber Iman for her Distinquished Performance Award nomination in the Drama League awards for her role as Rafaela in Lempicka! We made this portrait after the 2021 Tony Awards where the group she co-founded Broadway Advocacy Coalition was awarded a special Tony for their work promoting racial equity in the industry. I've been lucky to work with BAC several times and this night and this honor was especially fun to capture for them. Can't wait to see the show.

Happy #earthday! We live on an amazing and beautiful planet and we need to take care of it so we can continue to enjoy it. This is the view up the coast from Jetwing Lighthouse in Galle, Sri Lanka and one of the things that won't exist anymore if we don't stop climate change and the seas' rise.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! And since this March 31st also coincidentally corresponds with Easter, let's share this image of the amazing Sol in a Christ-like pose photographed at Bushwig for InStyle magazine. This image was selected for the American Photography 36 book. Happy Easter all.

Excited to end the week with news that my portrait of costume designer Natalie Turturro Mettouchi was selected for the 2024 Communication Arts Photo Annual. Always a honor to be included with such amazing photographers and work. Huge thanks to Natalie for bringing the energy and style that make the image. And to Early Halloween for the perfect location that helps make the pic as well. Big thank yous also to Janice Checchio at BU for the cool assignment and Kenzie King for the assist. And of course thank you to Communication Arts and the judges. Can't wait to see how it looks in the book. Have a great weekend all!

I learned yesterday that John Bjerklie passed away last week. I was lucky to get to know John living at 35 Claver Place, an artists building in Bed-Stuy. John and his artistic alter-ego BigHat was a big personality, a talented painter and a friend who believed I could be an artist before I did. And he was kind enough to sit for me for a personal project documenting the artists in the building back when I was still pretty new to photography. Thank you for your time, faith and advice John. You left an impression on so many. RIP #FuckCancer

Erin Go Bragh! It was a bit of a tradition to post this of Gadget on St Paddy's and it seems a good way to remember him now. Happy St. Paddy's Day!

I'm excited to be doing a presentation on photography and creativity for APA and Adorama next Thursday the 21st at 5pm. It will be in person at Adorama's Event Space as well as live-streamed. Hope you can join.
'Creativity is often thought of as a bolt of lightning, a flash of inspiration, but an idea is just the start of an often long process of translating that idea into an image, a process that you can practice and get better at. Using examples from his assigned and personal work, Chris will show how he uses problem solving to build an image in layers from first spark to final image, talking not just about the how, but the why of an image and lighting.'

Maggie, She/Her. I want to make a portrait series using light and lens to abstract and defocus the body and the lovely redhead let me test the concept. I would love to make a lot of these for this project, so if you're in NYC, interested in participating and willing to share your pronouns, please message or email me (on my site in profile). One note, this doesn't require nudity but the silhouette needs to be of the body, not clothes. I'm happy to answer any questions people might have.

Yesterday for International Women's Day I shared images on IG of some of the talented women I've been lucky to work with. Today I thought it'd be interesting to show the portraits those were the light tests for. So here are:
- Jane Goodall / Sally Montana
- Van Jones / Tara Rice
- Ronnie Fieg / Janelle Jones
- Natalie Turturro Mettouchi / Kenzie King
Maybe the saddest I've been on a shoot is when Tara's light went away before Van got there.
