Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Clay Cockrell for WirtschaftsWoche magazine and it's out now. Clay - or as the article dubs him, the Millionaire Whisperer - is a psychotherapist who specializes in high net worth individuals. And he does his sessions as walk and talks in Central Park. So that's how the interview went, with me tagging along to capture shots of the interview as well as occasionally saying 'can you stand here for a sec' to grab a portrait. Always nice when they choose your fave to run

Congrats to Amber Iman for her Distinquished Performance Award nomination in the Drama League awards for her role as Rafaela in Lempicka! We made this portrait after the 2021 Tony Awards where the group she co-founded Broadway Advocacy Coalition was awarded a special Tony for their work promoting racial equity in the industry. I've been lucky to work with BAC several times and this night and this honor was especially fun to capture for them. Can't wait to see the show.

Happy #earthday! We live on an amazing and beautiful planet and we need to take care of it so we can continue to enjoy it. This is the view up the coast from Jetwing Lighthouse in Galle, Sri Lanka and one of the things that won't exist anymore if we don't stop climate change and the seas' rise.

Last week I photographed Hal Fetner, CEO of Fetner Properties, for Commercial Observer and it's out today. Not everyday you get to photograph someone with their carousel cow. When I was scouting locations, the receptionist said would you like to see his cow? Ahh, hell yeah I want to see the cow. He collects vintage carousel animals and had one in a little nook by the break room. And then basically everyone I talked to there said "have you seen his cow. He's very proud of his cow." So when he brought up his collection in the interview while I was setting up, I chimed in with I have seen the cow. He laughed and said you probably don't want to shoot it cuz it won't make a good picture. To which I replied, Hal, I am definitely your man to photograph the cow and we will make a good pic if you're willing. And he was. So we carried that big and heavy enough to be very awkward to move cow to a hallway and took a few shots. Very glad it ran.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! And since this March 31st also coincidentally corresponds with Easter, let's share this image of the amazing Sol in a Christ-like pose photographed at Bushwig for InStyle magazine. This image was selected for the American Photography 36 book. Happy Easter all.

Excited to end the week with news that my portrait of costume designer Natalie Turturro Mettouchi was selected for the 2024 Communication Arts Photo Annual. Always a honor to be included with such amazing photographers and work. Huge thanks to Natalie for bringing the energy and style that make the image. And to Early Halloween for the perfect location that helps make the pic as well. Big thank yous also to Janice Checchio at BU for the cool assignment and Kenzie King for the assist. And of course thank you to Communication Arts and the judges. Can't wait to see how it looks in the book. Have a great weekend all!

I learned yesterday that John Bjerklie passed away last week. I was lucky to get to know John living at 35 Claver Place, an artists building in Bed-Stuy. John and his artistic alter-ego BigHat was a big personality, a talented painter and a friend who believed I could be an artist before I did. And he was kind enough to sit for me for a personal project documenting the artists in the building back when I was still pretty new to photography. Thank you for your time, faith and advice John. You left an impression on so many. RIP #FuckCancer

I saw over the weekend it was Jean-Georges' birthday Saturday, so let's start the week with a belated happy birthday and some images from my shoot of him for WSJ. I've been lucky to photograph him twice and he's generous with his time and great to work with. As anyone who's shot celebrities will tell you, an hour of shoot time on the call sheet usually means 15-20 minutes if you're lucky, 5-10 if you're not. Jean-Georges gave us an hour in his amazing apartment and was game to try the things I asked.

I'm excited to be doing a presentation on photography and creativity for APA and Adorama next Thursday the 21st at 5pm. It will be in person at Adorama's Event Space as well as live-streamed. Hope you can join.
'Creativity is often thought of as a bolt of lightning, a flash of inspiration, but an idea is just the start of an often long process of translating that idea into an image, a process that you can practice and get better at. Using examples from his assigned and personal work, Chris will show how he uses problem solving to build an image in layers from first spark to final image, talking not just about the how, but the why of an image and lighting.'

Maggie, She/Her. I want to make a portrait series using light and lens to abstract and defocus the body and the lovely redhead let me test the concept. I would love to make a lot of these for this project, so if you're in NYC, interested in participating and willing to share your pronouns, please message or email me (on my site in profile). One note, this doesn't require nudity but the silhouette needs to be of the body, not clothes. I'm happy to answer any questions people might have.

What's happening in Haiti is horrifying and tragic. Yet again. I've spent time there working with World Vision and the people are so wonderful and deserve so much better. These are some of the incredible students I taught photography there. I hope the chaos and violence is resolved quickly and they and everyone are safe.

Yesterday for International Women's Day I shared images on IG of some of the talented women I've been lucky to work with. Today I thought it'd be interesting to show the portraits those were the light tests for. So here are:
- Jane Goodall / Sally Montana
- Van Jones / Tara Rice
- Ronnie Fieg / Janelle Jones
- Natalie Turturro Mettouchi / Kenzie King
Maybe the saddest I've been on a shoot is when Tara's light went away before Van got there.
