Katniss is like Lucy Gray this, Katniss is like Sejanus that, and yes find that's all good and true and lovely but Katniss Everdeen is also a direct parallel to Coriolanus Snow and people NEED to start talking about this because it's driving me crazy.
Think about it: they both grew up poor and deeply vulnerable, losing parents at a very young age, with a matriarchal adult (Katniss' mother and Coriolanus' Grandma'am) who fails to provide for them emotionally and physically. They intimately understand the threat of starvation, even developing with stunted growth because of it, and their narrations in the books share a fixation on food. Throughout their childhoods, both experienced constant fear and suffered a fundamental lack of control over their circumstances. Because of this, they're inherently suspicious of the people around them. They resent feeling indebted to others, especially those who have saved their lives. They're motivated almost entirely by family and deeply connected to their communities. Both are used and manipulated by the Capitol, both are forced to perform to survive and despise every inch of it, both are thrown into the Arena and made to kill. Both have a self-sacrificial, genuinely sweet sister figure acting as their conscience. Peeta and Lucy Gray - performers and love interests with a fundamental kindness and sense of hope about them - fulfill markedly similar roles in their narrative. Both contribute to the development of the future Hunger Games, Snow throughout tbosas and Katniss towards the end of Mockingjay.
It's easy to ignore these similarities because, as mirrors of each other, they are exact opposites. Katniss is from District 12, viewed and treated as less than human; Snow is the cream of the Capitol crop, given the privilege of a name with social weight, an ancestral home, and the opportunity of the Academy despite having no more money than a miner from 12. Katniss has no agency over her life, and responds by being kind whenever she's able, while Snow justifies horrendous evils in order to continue his quest for complete control. Katniss does everything she can to protect her family; Snow does everything he can to protect his family's image as an extension of his own ego. Katniss loves her District and connects with its inhabitants on a meaningful level, but Snow is indifferent at best to his peers - the apparent "superior people" - and only engages with his community for personal gain. Katniss emerges from the Arena horrified at herself and the system, but Snow takes his trauma and turns it into an excuse to perpetuate the violence with himself at the top. Katniss cares for Prim until her death and then snaps at the loss of her little sister, while Snow survives on Tigris' blood, sweat, and tears and then torments and abandons her, presumably because she calls him out on his insanity. Snow actively adds to and popularizes the Hunger Games because of his vendetta against the Districts following his childhood wartime trauma - Katniss briefly agrees to a new Hunger Games in the pursuit of vengeance, but later stops them from happening by killing Coin and choosing a life of peace and privacy. Snow is obsessed with revenge, but Katniss empathizes with the Capitolites and does what she can to keep them from suffering. He exists in a cruel system and selfishly upholds it; she exists in a cruel system and works to dismantle it for the good of her family and community, at great personal cost. And Peeta and Lucy Gray are incredibly similar, but Katniss and Peeta forge a relationship of genuine love and understanding that shines in comparison to Coriolanus' obsessive projection onto Lucy Gray.
So, yeah, Katniss is Lucy Gray haunting Coriolanus. But I bet you anything that eighty-something year old President Snow looks at her, the girl on fire, bright and young and brilliant, emerging from a childhood of starvation with a relentless hunger for success, a talented and charming performer helping her win the Games, and he sees the ghost of his own past. And that's why he's so afraid of her! Because if he sees himself in her, then he's up against his own cunning, his own talent for manipulation, his own charisma, his own genius. He's up against the version of himself that he once wished to be, with the nightmare army of his childhood at her back and her star-crossed lover at her side, spewing Sejanus' truths in his own voice. This isn't to say that Katniss ever achieved the level of power and agency that Coriolanus did during her time with the rebellion, but it is to say that Snow was taken down by what truly terrified him - his own morality, come to finish the job.

SNOWFALL OF HEARTS ; CORIOLANUS SNOW
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: coriolanus snow x tribute!oc part: four summar: coriolanus is torn between his harsh pursuit of victory and the growing warmth in his heart for erykah, his tribute from district nine warnings: ooc coriolanus, slight angst that turns into fluff a/n: i've been so busy with school, so so sorry for not updating sooner!! previous parts: one, two, three word count: 1.8k join taglist!!
Debris flew around in the air as Erykah fell to the ground. Bombs continued to go off. Bright orange and yellow filled the air as one after another went off, getting closer and closer to her. She could barely see due to the dust. She felt around the ground, trying to bring herself to her feet. But the continuous bombs restrained her.
She panicked as she felt a hand on her back. She turned her head to see a distressed Coriolanus. He took her hand attempting to bring them to their feet.
They both finally got to their knees, a dark gray cloud of smoke blew past them making Erykah cough. She stood up, directing her attention to the roof of the arena. She gripped Coriolanus’ hand attempting to pull him out of the way. He didn’t seem to notice the gesture, too engrossed in the bombs.
One now went off by the middle of the ceiling, causing it to collapse in the middle. Erykah finally snapped him out of his daze, running with him out of the way of the wreckage. He didn’t run fast enough, a burning pillar fell across his back.
Erykah didn’t notice his absence, only stopping her running when she heard his faint voice yell out for her. She ran over to him and saw him writhing, attempting to free his body.
Gunshots and explosions rang out around the arena. Two peacekeepers were attempting to catch one of the other male tributes. More time to help Coriolanus. She groaned as she lifted the pillar off of his burning body, using all of her strength to free him. Her hands received cuts as she pulled harder. He rolled over, his body finally free.
“Thank you.” Coriolanus told her breathlessly, reaching out for her.
Erykah tried to respond, but a peacekeeper came up from behind her, pulling her body away from his. She thrashed around in his arms, eyes never leaving Coriolanus’.
And then he was gone in the dusty haze.
Tumblr media
Coriolanus woke up in the hospital dazed. He blinked slowly, trying to wake himself. “Coryo,” His cousin, Tigris, whispered to him with a bittersweet smile. He was glad she was there, he needed company. “Erykah, is she okay? Is she safe?” He asked in a panicked, hoarse voice.
“She’s okay, she’s alive Coryo.” Tigris reassured him, gripping his hand in hers. “And the rest of them?” He asked slightly worried about their well beings, but also hoping Erykah didn’t have much competition left. “Four tributes were killed, everyone’s terrified.” Tigris informed him in a hushed voice.
“Marcus got out. He’s the only one.” Sejanus, who Coriolanus hadn’t noticed was there, cut in. “Peacekeepers are hunting him in the streets… but at least he has a better chance out there than he would tomorrow.” He told Coriolanus somberly.
That couldn’t be right… “Tomorrow? They’re not still going on with the games are they?” He asked, distressed at the idea of Erykah in the arena. He remembered the last thing she said to him. “I don’t know if I’m going to make it”
“Erykah… she could’ve run. But she saved me.” He could never repay her for what she had done for him. No, he would. He would get her out of that arena and back to her family, back to her little sister, back to district nine.
The sound of cheers coming from the TV snapped him out of his anxious thoughts. Coriolanus heard the voice of Lucky Flickerman as he struggled to get out of the hospital bed, groaning slightly as he brought himself to his feet.
“Erykah Thorpe! Get out here you songbird!” Lucky yelled cheerfully and waved for her to get up on stage.
She held a light brown guitar in her hands, as her eyes scanned the crowd. “I wrote this song about a boy back in district nine, and I hope he hears it.”
3 a.m. and I'm still awake, I'll bet you're just fine. Fast asleep in your city that's better than mine…
She was an amazing singer. The song she sang accentuated her slight accent. Coriolanus’ eyes darted to the corner of the TV screen, she had already gotten fifty donations. Already doing better than some of the other tributes.
And the girl in your bed has a fine pedigree. And I'll bet your friends tell you she's better than me.
She gave an annoyed scoff and smirked at the camera while she continued to play. What had this guy done to her? Maybe it was nosy, but Coriolanus needed to know who he was. He wished he was able to talk some sense into whoever he may be, make him realize what he had lost.
Well, I tried to fit in with your upper-crust circles. Yeah, they let me sit in, back when we were in love.
This had confirmed his belief that Erykah was glaring at the mayor’s son during the reaping. He assumed that the song was about him as well. Coriolanus was brought back to the day of the reaping. Her giving the boy a sarcastic bow with a smirk on her face. Whatever he had done, the look of disgust Erykah had given him showed that he had wronged her.
But now that we're done and it's over. I bet you couldn't believe it when you realized I'm harder to forget than I was to leave. And I bet you think about me.
Despite the angry expression she wore on her face, her voice stayed steady. But Coriolanus could tell that she was trying her hardest to keep her composure. Her voice growled slightly, her grip on the guitar got tighter.
I don't have to be your shrink to know that you'll never be happy. And I bet you think about me.
She finished the song, tilting her head with a sneer and looking directly into the camera. Cheers echoed in the background as Erykah stared at the camera, jaw clenched.
“Look at that! Record high for the evening. People in the Capitol are definitely watching, I sure hope that boy is too!” Lucky announced happily. As he spoke Erykah scanned the crowd with a smile.
Coriolanus felt guilty for not being there to watch her, though he wasn’t positive any of the other mentors showed up. He would see her before she went to the arena, he planned on it.
Tumblr media
For the first time since she’d arrived at the Capitol, Erykah slept peacefully. She was awoken from that by the voice of someone familiar, Coriolanus. She rubbed her eyes as she heard his whispers, “Erykah. Erykah.”
She brought herself to her feet to run over to the gate. “Thank god, you’re alive.” Erykah whispered more to herself than to him. She observed him. His eyes were drowsy and dark, he had bandages across his entire chest, and despite his condition, he still came to see her.
Coriolanus took her hand through the bars before continuing to talk. “Those bombs, they’ve changed everything. There's a hole in the floors, it leads down to some tunnels. You can hide down there.” Erykah nodded, taking every word he said.
“When the bell rings, ignore all the weapons in the middle, and you run as fast as you can for the tunnels.” He stressed to her, gripping her hand slightly to get the point across. “Find a place to hide and stay down there until it's safe to come out.”
“Thank you… for you taking care of me.” Erykah said to him teary-eyed. Something seemed to register in Coriolanus’ head as he heard her words.
“I’m not done taking care of you. I can’t let you die. You saved me, Erykah.” He talked to her as if there were hearts in his eyes.
Erykah teared up at his words, she wasn’t ready to die either, but she knew many of the other tributes were far stronger than her. She was weak, she couldn’t hunt them like they would her. She didn’t stand a chance against them. But the idea of Coriolanus protecting her, even if it was from outside the arena, gave her a bit of hope.
Tears fell down her cheeks. “I’m sorry. During the nights here I just… the thoughts of what’s happening back at home… it just-” Her words were barely audible as she talked in a quavering voice.
“It’s okay, Erykah.” Coriolanus whispered reassurances to her while he wiped her tears with a handkerchief. She looked up at him with sad eyes.
“I’m going to get you out of there. I promise. Out of there and back home.” He spoke breathlessly as he reassured not only Erykah but himself as well.
Erykah couldn’t help but think to herself, I don’t want to go back to my normal life. Despite the terror of staying in the Capitol’s zoo, every day was brightened by being able to see Coriolanus. Going back to district nine would mean she wouldn’t see him anymore.
“What if I don’t want to, Corio? What if I said I don’t mind pushing through every day if it means being able to see you?” Erykah’s lip quivered as she confessed to him. Her gaze lowered to her feet, afraid of seeing the horrified look on Coriolanus’ face. But when she felt his shaky hand take hers, she looked up to see him teary-eyed.
“Erykah I don’t want to lose you.” He confessed sadly, before bringing his head to the gates to rest his forehead against hers. She followed after him looking into his eyes with a sad smile.
Coriolanus was so absorbed in the moment he had almost forgotten about what he brought her. “I have something I need to give you.” He said, sadly breaking the contact between the two. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a beautiful silver compact with a rose engraved in the center.
“Corio thank you but… what’s this for?” She was grateful but couldn’t help but wonder what the motive behind it was. “What’s in there, don’t touch it. Don't even breathe it in because it’s deadly.” Coriolanus told her, surely. Erykah nodded, immediately understanding him.
“We’re going to win this together.” He said before giving her one last thing, an old ring which looked like a family heirloom. “If you ever lose hope, just remember me. I’ll be waiting for you till the end, Erykah.” He squeezed her hand that held the ring.
“Thank you Corio, for everything you’ve done for me. I don’t know how I could repay you.”
“Your survival is enough of an reward.”

SNOWFALL OF HEARTS ; CORIOLANUS SNOW
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: coriolanus snow x tribue!oc part: three summar: coriolanus is torn between his harsh pursuit of victory and the growing warmth in his heart for erykah, his tribute from district 9 warnings: ooc coriolanus, murder/death (arachne), violence a/n: sorry this is a late update, been busy cause of thanksgiving! i also may or may not have watched tbosas in theaters for a second time... previous parts: one, two word count: 1.6k join taglist!!
Erykah sat behind the zoo’s bars as she waited for Coriolanus to show up. She looked around and saw many of the other mentors conversing with their tributes, most didn’t seem happy to be there. Coriolanus isn’t like that. He doesn’t act like the other mentors do.
Her thoughts began to spiral as she wondered about his real motive. What’s different about him than the rest of them? He probably only cares about the reward.
Before she could make more assumptions, she saw the blonde walking up to her. She got up from the mossy tree she sat under to walk over to him.
He held a navy blue napkin in his hands that contained a sandwich cut into two halves and two cookies. Erykah’s mouth watered at the sight of it. “This for me?” She asked him eagerly, her stomach growling at the thought. Coriolanus nodded warmly in response to her hunger and gave the napkin to her. She took it from him with a grateful smile.
She turned her body to the left to see a mentor taunting her tribute with a bottle of pink liquid that Erykah couldn't recognize. “One thing I learned from living in the districts is that hunger is a weapon. Your friend over there seems to know that already.” She spoke to Coriolanus in a slightly disgruntled tone. “She's anything but a friend, trust me.” He reassured her.
His voice quieted slightly as he leaned in closer, though the bars prevented him from getting as close as he wanted to. “I might have a chance to help you from out here. I’ve made some suggestions to the game makers and their talking about having the audience send gifts, like food and water.” Maybe he does care about me, Erykah thought as he explained to her.
“You just need to get their attention. Maybe you could try singing like you told the interviewer yesterday?” He brought up the idea cautiously, not knowing if the idea sat well with her. She pondered for a second. “Do you have a guitar? I usually play that back in nine.” That was her only reason for hesitation. “I’m sure I can ask around.” He said with a reassuring nod.
Erykah nodded back at him before taking a bite of the sandwich. She hadn’t had a real sandwich since before her dad passed, that had been six years ago. “Thank you, Coriolanus.”
She thanked him as she swallowed her bite. She looked up at him as he stared at the food in her hands. His eyes moved up to hers as she caught him. “Just call me Corio.” He changed the subject, hoping you couldn’t tell. “Well Corio, you can have some if you want.” Erykah offered him some of the food as she tested the new nickname out. “No it’s for you.” He kindly insisted. “I saw you staring…” Coriolanus got nervous from her comment as he gave in and took the cookie from her hand.
“I always thought that there was plenty of food in the Capitol.” Erykah told him as she went to sit down. “Not in my case.” He responded with a nonchalant shrug.
She turned around to see one of the younger tributes resting her head on her district partner’s shoulder. The girl didn’t want to be here, then again who would? “That little one. She’s just so young, so sweet… She reminds me of my little sister, Magnolia. Can’t stand to think how she’s doing without me.” She told Coriolanus sadly. All he could muster up was, “I’m sorry,”
There was a moment of silence between the two before Erykah spoke up again. “You seem like a good man Corio. Wish I met you differently…” She told him with a sad smile. “Maybe you could’ve come to one of my shows. Had a drink, maybe a dance or two.” As she spoke, Coriolanus’ eyes didn’t leave hers. He was hanging onto every word she said. “Yeah… that would’ve been nice.” He agreed with the same sad smile she wore.
Their conversation ended abruptly as the tribute from earlier finally got the bottle from her mentor. She pulled the pig-tailed girl in closer, so her neck was poking through the bars. The redheaded tribute smashed the bottle on the bars of the enclosure and drove the bottle into the mentor’s throat.
Erykah watched as Coriolanus ran over to the mentor and grabbed her body, holding her in his arms as she choked out blood. He called out for help as he sat there helplessly. Erykah hid while peacekeepers shot at the tribute. She could hear the girl's body collapse as the peacekeepers stopped their shooting, now moving over to drag Coriolanus away from the mentor’s body.
Erykah sat up after the chaos. She saw that most of the other tributes in the cage didn’t want to leave their hiding places, fearing that there were peacekeepers waiting for a chance to shoot at them.
She was scared. If the tributes don’t have a problem killing their own mentors, then they’ll have no trouble killing me. Who could she trust? She didn’t have any allies. She supposed Panlo counted, but they had only talked a couple of times. Likewise, she would be alone in that arena. Let’s hope I don’t die alone.
Tumblr media
Erykah sat on a bench with her left hand chained down waiting for a short man, who she assumed was Coriolanus’ teacher, to finish talking.
“Dr Gaul wishes you all to preview the arena this afternoon with your tribute. Later this evening there will be a televised presentation of each tribute. You'll have an hour to discuss strategy.” The man walked off and took a small vial out of his pocket, gulping it down. Coriolanus sat down with a tense look on his face.
“I'm sorry about your classmate.” She uttered apologetically. “It's fine. Are you doing okay?” He attempted to change the subject. “The dress is my mom's, it's the only thing keeping me calm right now. Reminds me that I still have them waiting for me at home.” Erykah choked out. She sounded as if she were going to burst into tears any second.
“My mother used to smell like roses. She died in childbirth, I would’ve had a little sister.” Coriolanus smiled sadly at the memory of his mother. “I'm sorry Corio.” Erykah attempted to move her hand to hold his, the cuff attaching her to the table prevented her from doing so. He moved his to hers instead after seeing her try.
“What about you Erykah, how’s your family?” He changed the subject, gripping her hand slightly. Nobody around them, tributes nor mentors, seemed to notice the gesture. Erykah did. Her heart fluttered at the contact.
“Well… My dad passed away when I was twelve… so it’s just been me, my mom and my sister since then.” A look of grief as she told him. “I’ve been providing Maggy since then.”
“What about your mom?” Coriolanus asked her with a concerned look on his face. “She left us after it happened… she’s back now but I just… I can’t look at her the same.” She got a tighter grip on Coriolanus’ hand as she talked more about it. “I’m just worried that if I don’t make it back she’s going to leave like last time. I can’t leave my sister Corio.” Her voice shook as tears threatened to spill out.
“Good thing you’re not going to. I'm going to get you out of that arena, Erykah. I don't care what I have to do. I'm going to get you back to your sister.” He looked into her sad eyes and rubbed his thumb over her hand in hopes it would make her feel better. Her lip quivered as she tried to give him a smile.
“Well I’ve heard there were some interviews that the tributes had to do. I’m going to sing.” She changed the subject, sniffling as she spoke. He nodded at her, “You’ll do great, I know it.”
“Snow, Dovecote.” His teacher interrupted their conversation. Coriolanus squeezed her hand one last time before getting up. Another mentor with long black hair, who Erykah assumed was “Dovecote”, followed after him.
Not long after their exit, the tributes were instructed to enter the same car that had brought them to the zoo; it would now take them to the arena. A majority of her time at the Capitol has been taken up by moving around. This is where she either died or beat the odds.
Tumblr media
Erykah stood in line waiting for entry to the arena. She fidgeted with her hands while she waited to go in. She heard footsteps across from her, Corio. He showed up by her side and gave a comforting nod as they began to walk in.
The red lights of the entryway did not help with the uneasy feeling she had. “Enjoy the show!” An upbeat voice sounded as they walked through the turnstiles.
In a nervous reflex, she slowly moved her hand into Coriolanus’. He tightened his hand around hers. They continued to walk slowly and let go of each other at the sight of cameras.
They walked around nervously as one of the mentors forced the camera on his tribute. “Hey, you! Get that camera on her!” Erykah scowled at him as you glanced around the arena. Where can I hide? It’s all open.
The sound of the doors closing startled her out of her anxiety. She looked up at Coriolanus who seemed to be just as confused as her. The loud windows of the arena started to open as the rest of the mentors and tributes were snapped out of conversation. Everyone looked up as the dark arena was brightened.
“I know you said you would get me back to my family, but I don’t know if I’m going to make it,” Erykah whispered to Coriolanus just before the arena exploded.

Lucy Gray and reader singing together, please?
INVISIBLE STRING ; LUCY GRAY BAIRD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: lucy gray baird x covey!reader (not related) summary: lucy gray pitches a song to you, you don’t seem to realize what it’s about until you sing it with her on stage warnings: reader being oblivious (and jealous), mentioned that reader is fem a/n: i did change a lot of the lyrics but it's to fit the plot!! word count: 1.0k join taglist!!
Lucy Gray proposed a new song to you. “It’s kind of lovey-dovey… but I think we should play it tomorrow at the Hob.” She was nervous, only looking at you for a quick second before staring at her feet the rest of the time. What could she be so nervous about? “Well play it for me!” You beamed at her and shoved her shoulder. She grabbed her guitar from beside her and started to play for you.
The melodic notes that came out of the guitar awed you as she played. Her sweet voice blended well with background noises of the guitar, it had you mesmerized.
And isn’t it just so pretty to think? All along there was some invisible string, tying you to me.
You recognized the saying from something Maude Ivory had told you once. She had brought it up while they watched a couple dance as Lucy Gray sang. “It’s this belief I read about. It’s a string tying soulmates together, it means that the universe wants you to be together. Almost like it’s written in the stars.”
As Lucy Gray sang to you, you couldn’t help but wonder who she was singing about. “It’s probably about that peacekeeper friend of hers…” You got a stab in your ribs but from what? Jealousy? Maybe. You hadn’t thought of it before but as she was nearing the end of the song, the pain got worse.
She sang the last chorus, her voice still smooth as she sang the same lyrics; this time with a key change on the guitar. She sang oohs and ahhs while she continued to play the relaxing melody. She ended the song with a nervous smile on her face.
She began to ask you shyly, “So what do you-” You cut her off, “It’s amazing Lucy Gray, we should get the others together, so we can practice it.” You told with a smile, despite the feeling of jealousy deep within you. She blushed at your praise as she muttered a quiet, “Thanks,” You left her with a smile as you went to gather the rest of the Covey.
Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire. Chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons. One single thread of gold tied me to you.
You were jealous. What did he have that you didn’t? You loved Lucy Gray, you had loved her since you first met her in the hob years ago. You just didn’t know if she felt the same.
Tumblr media
Just like every night, you and the Covey played at the Hob. But this night was different, they were playing a new song.
You and the rest of the Covey got onto the stage. Lucy Gray strutted up to the mic with an excited smile. She turned to you to give a nod, a way of telling you it was time to start. You passed the nod onto the rest of the Covey. Maude Ivory gave a thumbs up to you then looked over to Lucy Gray with a knowing smile. What were they planning?
Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Lucy Gray’s voice. “Hello everybody, It’s so great to see you!” She spoke to them with her usual charm.
As she spoke to the crowd, you scanned around. That peacekeeper boy wasn’t here. Guess he won’t get to hear her song.
“Tonight we’re gonna start with a new one, I call it ‘invisible string’” She told the crowd, grabbing a tambourine while Tam Amber started playing the banjo. You joined in a little after he did on the guitar, Barb Azure playing her fiddle not long after you.
Black was the color of your shirt when you were sixteen at the local bar you used to work at to make a little money.
The lyrics sounded familiar. You looked around at the rest of the Covey to see them with grinning faces. Was this song about you? Surely not, so you just pushed it to the side as you continued to play guitar along with her.
And isn’t it just so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to me.
Lucy Gray sang the chorus, turning to you with a smile as you harmonized together; you were doing a slightly higher pitch than her. You smiled back, as if nobody else was there but her.
Pure was the snow in the song in the bar when you had first met me.
She turned back to the crowd as she sang the second verse. It was about you. You get brought back to that day from the mention of it.
You had walked in to do your usual bartending shift, not expecting much entertainment but were pleasantly surprised to see a band playing. The main singer, Lucy Gray, was the most beautiful woman you had ever seen. She seemed to be smiling at someone in the crowd as she sang. She turned as she continued to sing and saw you standing there, in awe from her voice and beauty.
A string that pulled me out of all the wrong arms, right into that dive bar. Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire.
You looked at her, and suddenly you were that same awestruck girl from back when you were just a bartender at the Hob. She looked back at you with loving eyes, you thought your knees were going to buckle, but you stood up straighter.
As the final chorus came up, Lucy Gray put down the tambourine to start snapping her fingers to the beat as she sang with you.
And isn’t it just so pretty to think? All along there was some invisible string, tying you to me.
You changed the key on your guitar as you two started to sing the same oohs and ahhs she had sung to you just the night before. Her voice was as smooth as honey while your higher and slightly gravelly voice harmonized with hers. Your opposite tones mixed perfectly together.
Your spirits matched with your voices, made for one another. You left the Hob that night with Lucy Gray on your arm knowing that you two really were written in the stars.

A peacekeeper led Erykah to a train car. She climbed up and surveyed the area for her district partner. He was sitting in the corner waiting for her. She sat beside him for the ride, hoping that he would be an ally.
“That was your sister right? The one you volunteered for.” He inquired. The question woke Erykah up. “Yes, it was.” She mumbled, hoping to herself that she was doing okay. “I wish I had somebody that would do that for me…” the boy muttered more to himself than to Erykah. She didn’t question him further and instead rested her head on the boy’s bony shoulder.
She hadn’t seen her family before she left. That could be the last time she sees her sister. Why did I ignore her? She thought of her mother. What is she going to do without me? Will she take good care of her, or will she mess it up like last time? She tried to push her worried thoughts to the side as she picked at her nails. Please take care of her while I’m gone, she whispered to herself.
Tumblr media
Coriolanus stood nervously at the train station waiting for his tribute. His heart was beating out of his chest as he paced alongside the train, hoping to see Erykah or the male tribute from her district.
At that moment he saw Panlo jump out of one of the train carts and lift his hands to Erykah’s waist to set her on the ground. Coriolanus was getting worse. He touched his blonde curls, hoping it would calm him down. It was no use. His heart was beating so fast he thought he was about to have a heart attack.
Erykah dusted her dress off after getting out of the train cart. She looked over at him with a confused look before turning to Panlo. “You can go along without me.” She muttered to him, smoothing her slightly frizzy hair before walking over to Coriolanus.
He nervously reached a white rose out to her, hands slightly shaking. “Welcome to the Capitol” He uttered to her with a grin. She took the rose out of his hand, brushing her fingertips against his. The feeling made him shiver.
She took a long smell of the flower before questioning him, “Why are you here?” Although the question sounded rude, her sweet voice showed she was just curious. “I’m your mentor… for the games” He answered her, nerves starting to slightly dissolve. She nodded slowly, seeming to be thinking to herself. “Well what can you do for me as a mentor other than bring me roses?” The brunette tilted her head slightly as she asked him.
“I do my best to take care of you”
She blushed a little upon hearing that from him. The comment gave her comfort. She smiled widely, “Well that’s very sweet of you…?” She paused, realizing he never told her his name. “Coriolanus. Coriolanus Snow.” He answered her question, not as nervous as before.
“It’s been great talking to you Coriolanus, but I’ve got to go!” She announced with a big toothy grin on her face. A peacekeeper had shown up behind her, pushing her toward a different vehicle, one Coriolanus recognized as a cattle car.
He sauntered after her as she got in the car. He walked along the train asking peacekeepers if he could ride with them. The two that previously stood outside the doors of the car, were now running after one of the male tributes that attempted to get away. Now was the chance, he thought to himself as he trod onto the car.
As soon as he got in, all the tributes were looking at him. Some with bloodthirsty eyes. Some with expressions of fear.
He stood there nervously as they continued to stare. “What’s wrong pretty boy? You in the wrong cage?” A man Coriolanus recognized as the tribute from district eleven asked him mockingly. “Get him Reaper.” He heard one of the other tributes mutter to him as Reaper strode up to Coriolanus, slamming him against the back wall of the car.
“I’ll kill you right now.” He declared aggressively. Some of the strong looking tributes got out of their seats and announced they all should. “Nothing left to lose now.” The tribute that tried to run away earlier stood up cracking his knuckles with a scowl on his face, seeming to be moments away from beating up Coriolanus.
“You got any family at home? Friends, maybe even a pet? They’ll be killed if you hurt him. Then you.” Erykah interrupts their conflict, attempting to defend Coriolanus. “Besides, he’s my mentor; I might need him,” She adds with a barely noticeable smile.
“How come you got one?” A girl with a short dark red haircut asks. Erykah didn’t know the answer, turning her gaze to the blonde for help. “You all get one.” He tried to comment calmly as Reaper was still pushing him against the wall.
“Well why aren’t ours here? How come flower girl here gets special treatment? Is it cause she volunteered?” She talked fast, poking fun at her for the incident at the reaping. “It doesn’t have anything to do with me volunteering. I guess yours just wasn’t inspired.” Erykah smarted back at her with a smirk.
The red haired girl looked like she was about to lunge at her when the cart started to shake. Everybody started to panic as the shaking got more and more aggressive. Coriolanus hung onto the back as it started to tip over. Erykah rushed out of her seat to get to him. She latched onto his right arm, he put that same arm around her waist to keep her from falling.
The cart tipped over completely. Coriolanus’ grip on the back of the cart loosened as he and Erykah fell down.
His eyes adjusted to the brightness of the outdoors as he realized where he was, the Capitol zoo. He looked around panicked, eyes meeting Erykah’s as she searched for his rose from earlier.
A man doing a news report seemed to finally notice his presence. “Excuse me sir! Who are you, and why are you in there with them? We’re live.” He gestured to the camera recording him.
Coriolanus panicked as he stood up. Erykah grabbed his arm bringing him back to reality. “Own it,” She muttered, looking up at him with big eyes as he breathed heavily. He nodded slightly at her, trying to calm himself down.
He took the rose from her hand and snapped the stem. He grabbed the loose curls on her face, tucking them behind her ears before putting the rose behind her ear as well. She gave a small smile up at him before taking his hand in hers.
They walked up to two young kids in the crowd, seeming to be siblings. “Hi there, what’s your name?” She knelt down to the children's level, still holding Coriolanus’ hand. “My name is Pontius, that’s my little sister Venus. She’s only four.” The young boy told Erykah. “I have a little sister too. She’s quite a bit older than yours though.” She told Pontius with a slightly sad smile.
“That’s really cool that you took her place. Someday I want to be as brave as you.” The little girl, Venus, spoke to Erykah. “Well you can be anything you want to be sweetheart.” She gave the girl a big smile. She reminds me of Maggy, she thought to herself.
She stopped her conversation with Venus to turn to the reporter. “And who might you be?” She questioned the reporter with a smile as she stood up, her hand letting go of Coriolanus’ to move to her hip.
“I’m Lucretius ‘Lucky’ Flickerman but more importantly, who might you be; Erykah from district 9.” He spoke to her in a very newscaster voice. “Well as you know my name is Erykah Thorpe. I do a little singing at a local bar in nine… Not much to know about me, I suppose!” She giggled and looked over at Coriolanus to see him with a smile.
“Well I’m sure the people in the Capitol would love to hear you sing, I know I would!” He talked to her enthusiastically. “I would love to!” She told him, partially for the cameras. Despite her love for music, the thought of singing for the Capitol made her feel weird.
“Do you know my mentor? He says his name is Coriolanus Snow, and I must have gotten the brightest star in the Dipper cause none of the other mentors decided to show up.” She told Lucky with a smile, grabbing Coriolanus and moving him lightly forward, attempting to change the subject.
“The game makers did tell you to jump in the cage with them…?” Lucky questioned Coriolanus. He tensed up at the comment. “They didn’t tell me not to. They just said that it was a mentor’s job to introduce our tributes to the citizens of Panem.” The way he spoke to Lucky almost sounded sarcastic. Erykah could tell the game makers got on his nerves. “And I thought if Erykah is brave enough to be here then why shouldn’t I be too.” He stopped talking to look down at her, who gave him a smile and a nod.
“Well it looks like you're about to be whisked away young man.” Lucky informed him in a slightly sarcastic voice. Coriolanus turned around to see two peacekeepers about to pull him away from the conversation. But Erykah stopped them, grabbing onto Coriolanus’ arm to say one final thing to him.
“Can you get me some food please? I haven’t eaten since before the reaping.” She asks Coriolanus, practically pleading with him. All he did was give her a soft nod, and he was pulled away. Can I really win this? She thought to herself as her only chance of survival walked away from her.

SNOWFALL OF HEARTS ; CORIOLANUS SNOW
Tumblr media
pairing: coriolanus snow x tribute!oc part: one summary: coriolanus is torn between his harsh pursuit of victory and the growing warmth in his heart for erykah, his tribute from district 9 warnings: swearing, ooc coriolanus a/n: really excited for you guys to read this! also this will become a series! word count: 0.8k join taglist!!
Whispers echoed across Heavensbee Hall as Dean Highbottom broke the news to them all. “The Plinth Prize will no longer be determined by who has the best grades.” He paused. “But by who is the best mentor in the Hunger Games.”
As the shock settled in, Coriolanus thought to himself, I’m done. His hopes of winning that prize money were gone.
Students started to make comments as Highbottom continued to talk. “Obviously the best mentor will be the one who’s tribute wins the games.” Festus cut him off with a worried chuckle. “Your role is to turn these children into spectacles, Mr. Creed. Not survivors” Highbottom responded as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “Besides, victory in the games is only one of our considerations.”
As he finished talking, the sound of horns played, signifying that the reaping was starting. “Let the reaping ceremony begin!” Dean Highbottom shouted with a smile as he sat down between Coriolanus and Sejanus.
He started to list off the tributes and the corresponding mentors for them. As he went down the list, Coriolanus prayed to himself that he got somebody good. His thoughts were cut off as he heard his name.
“District 9. Boy, Gaius Breen. Girl, Coriolanus Snow.”
Tumblr media
Erykah Thorpe stood at the front of the rows at the yearly reaping. It’s fine, she thought to herself, It’s my last year of this. It was the last year for her, however it was her sister’s first. She’s only in there once.. There’s nothing to worry about.
“Magnolia Thorpe!” The mayor called her sister’s name as he held the small strip of paper in his hand. Throwing it to the ground moments after reading it.
No, no, this isn’t real. She thought to herself but she was snapped back into reality as she saw her sister walking past her.
“No! Take me! Take me instead!” She yelled at the mayor practically begging for him to allow her. “Are you saying you volunteer?” He asks with a confused yet delighted look on his face. “Yes.. I volunteer as tribute.” Her voice cracked as she held back tears, lifting her chin higher and moving a strand of hair out of her face.
He whispered to one of the peacekeepers, she assumed to ask if that was allowed. “Well come on up here!” He exclaimed with a smile, waving his arm forward.
She walked onto the stage, making sure to not look at her sister despite her thrashing in the peacekeeper’s arms. “Erykah please don’t go!” Her sister screamed while getting pulled away. Erykah still didn’t look at her.
“What a cold hearted bitch” Coriolanus heard from behind him as the rest of the students whispered about her. “What the hell is she doing”, “She’s choosing to be in there?” He tried to ignore them as he kept watching her.
“Well what’s your name girl?” The mayor asked her, smiling widely as he talked. “Erykah Thorpe” She said, staring directly into the camera as she spoke. “Well I would bet that was your sister you just volunteered for!” He continued to speak with that annoying, overjoyed smile. She didn’t respond this time, just kept looking into the camera with her jaw clenched.
Despite the situation she was in, Coriolanus couldn’t help but admire her beauty as she looked at the camera. She had long dark brown curly hair, slightly bushy eyebrows that accentuated her hooded eyes which were the same color as her hair, light freckles all across her face and plump pink lips that were slightly pouting at the moment.
Now that he was looking closer at her, he noticed what she was wearing. An off white dress that came down a little past her knees, nothing much different than the rest of the crowd. That was until he noticed the faded rainbow of roses and vines embroidered into the chest of her dress.
Her looks and outfit were much different than the angry expression she had on her face, which was now directed at someone in the front of the crowd.
The camera angle was changed to a wide shot. She and Panlo, the male tribute of district nine, were about to be escorted off the stage. Before they were pulled off, she dipped herself into a deep exaggerated bow and mouthed the words “Fuck you” to that same person in the front row, who Coriolanus could now identify as the mayor’s son.
That was the final straw for the peacekeepers. Who were pulling her out of the bow, as she repeated herself to the boy in a yell. Panlo and another peacekeeper followed shortly behind her as they went back to where the train would soon take them to the Capitol.
Coriolanus didn’t know how to feel about his tribute. He thought about her as they went through the rest of the tributes. Clemensia snapped him out of his thoughts. “You’ve got an interesting one, Coryo.” She whispered to him with a smirk.
