i think one of my fave things this season is grian's obsession with fishing. It feels like he's trying so hard to be normal and have a slow start to the season to the point that he's overshot the goal and now does nothing but fish.

he's managed to become more cryptic than usual and i think is being claimed by the ocean, which yknow, good for him

i think we should take the watcher!grian headcanon and make it just an accepted part of his friend's lives because its way funnier than it being a big angsty secret

things I really appreciate about hermitcraft:

I love that the hermits clubbed together to buy tfc a new pc and monitor in 2020, with a massive screen aimed at combatting his migraines and motion sickness

I love that cubfan has Joe Hills twitch emotes as part of his collection. Joe won't sign a twitch contract and can't have his own emotes, so cub just made some for his subscribers to play with on Joe's streams

I love that Keralis keeps sending computer mice and other gear to the other hermits whenever they mention computer problems (because when you own a hardware company, why wouldn't you be your friends' sugar daddy)

I love that Joe has mentioned that grian will resource gather for other hermits off camera in his free time, just because he can

I love that when iskall talked about his hermitcraft downtime, he said that none of the others tried to force him to make a video, they all just popped in and out, offering his various projects they were working on to see if he wanted to join in

I love that the hermits always have lots of advice for each other - whether it be parenting advice for doc, or just in having worked with mumbo since he was 17 and in sixth form college, of talking about tfc's wisdom (and sometimes we even get to learn about tango's washing machine and international taxes)

I love that hermits will take on infrastructure projects, like netherhubs and railways and roads and enderfarms

I love hermits helping hermits

I love stream weekends

I love that some hermits are dedicated enough to neglect their own bases and spend weeks helping out a friend - particularly Cleo, moving into stress' season six castle and Scarland and more to build diorama after diorama.

I love the dedication that the hermits have, and I appreciate how hard they worked for the king arc, the crossover, and the charity stream.

I love the strength of the community when a charity stream comes around.

I love that hermits will rush across the server or panic log in when someone needs help - killing doc's escaped withers, collecting gear, clearing lava after a tactical log out, turning off farms

I love that they offer each other building advice and redstone help (even if it is just scar and iskall being judgy about block choice)

I love scar's first reaction to ever seeing grian in person was 'you're drowning in fans at this convention, I wish I could help you, but we don't know each other yet'

I love Hypno and Joe singing karaoke at minecon in 2012

I love that they do make a wish hermitcraft guests and hermits who can help will be there

I love shared farms and shared resources, and a hermit flying in unprompted to drop off a shulker of that thing you mentioned you needed for no charge

I love hermitcraft as a community

RODY - has a BIG appetite - prefers fast food more than anything fancy/gourmet - rarely gets sick/cold (he'd do fine after eating spoiled food/sleeping out in rainy streets for months) - surprisingly way stronger than he looks - hates anything bitter

VINCE - favorite food is lemons because it stings his tongue in a way that vaguely resembles taste - canonically gay [though any reading through the game is valid] (art done by co-developer @ekrixart)

MANON - enjoys baking! always turns out bitter though - her parents are food critics (art done by both me and my co-developer @ekrixart)

instead of like a fic about hermit crafters finding out that Grian was forced to be his best friend and ate plastic. a fic about them finding out he was a hit man/assassin, has killed multiple people and will kill again, was involved with killing the yakuza leader and then pretended to be the yakuza leader causing the girl who threatened him to go insane. why don’t we get more of that huh

come on pls plsplspls pls pls pls it’d be soo cool… plus I’m like fairly certain Grian had beaten up Sam several times too. among a lot of other things😭

I need fics where Grian randomly tells absurd stories to the hermits such as how he once pretended to be a Yakuza leader because he killed the guy in a dumpster and everyone goes pssh. Sure.

That is until one day someone points out that although Grian may say and do some of the most craziest things, he never lies about doing something

Bebagerie’s Hermitcraft Elytra Masterpost!

Over the past year or so I’ve built a pretty complicated stack of Elytra headcanons and, after the lineup of everybody’s different wings, it felt right to put a full info post together. Mostly for my own sanity, but I hope you all can find it interesting too!

Now,

What are they?

found in end cities, sometimes on preserved or pinned beetles, sometimes already removed

wing casings of a mysterious end beetle, suspect to be extinct or otherwise difficult to access

casings themselves have an unexplainable magical property

How do they work?

they connect with a user’s soul and/or existing magical bonds

must be attached to an article of clothing or something similar in order to form wings, cannot root in a body without natural wings

those With natural wings, whether present or predisposed, can root elytra wings into their bodies naturally

elytra forms are unique to every user, but the physical wings of most elytra users are bug-like

they must be attached to their root at all times, pockets are not reliable so most hermits take up the practice of decoratively embroidering the casings to their chosen root (similar to 18th century beetlewing work)

Roots

without natural wings, an elytra cannot attach properly to a user. while its possible to forge a makeshift attachment, historically it has been easier and more effective for a player to choose a ‘root’ for their elytra

like previously mentioned, a root is most commonly a clothing item and may be found as a harness, backpack, scarf, or any other article close to a user’s core

naturally winged players do not need a wearable root, and will often instead attach their beetle wing shells inside a pocket or sleeve

Elytra Damage + User Effect

non-natural elytra are not connected in any way to the user’s body, so damage to an elytra does not hurt the wearer

naturally winged users feel pain in their wings regardless of an elytra, but the elytra serves like an enhancement (in a way) and will assist in the healing process

elytra wings cannot be directly torn, broken, cut, etc. and will self-heal if attempted, elytra damage is found only in the shells themselves which can be cracked, broken, or lost

somehow, they can be repaired like any other tool, it just takes meticulous care considering the scale of the wing shells

Function + Modification

because they are unique to the user, elytras properly suit every hermit equally. they aren’t flawless, and of course they take some learning, but the base “stats” are the same for everyone

redstone-oriented players tend to tinker or modify their elytra in a number of ways, some are purely aesthetic, provide easier control or increase the utility of their wings

building a strong ‘connection’ with an elytra takes some time, there is a learned element to them like any other tool, especially for those without natural wings, so some newer players tend to stick with gliding and struggle to move their wings as an extension of themselves

Additional variation

on hermitcraft itself, naturally winged players are inhibited by limitations set to keep things fair. those with physical grown wings will have small, unusable wings without the assistance of an elytra

it is not uncommon for an elytra to change appearance with its user, due to the connection between their body and the wings formed

if a root is borrowed or traded, it will maintain some remnants from its original user which may effect the wing’s form, however for all intensive purposes the physical appearance of wings will come from the user and not the root or shells themselves.

other servers have varied rules, but in a regular ‘survival’ setting, players with natural wings may grow full wings but are not able to use them for proper flight

I’m happy to elaborate or answer any questions, my other thoughts and designs can be found in my ‘headcanons’ tag, and I’m sure this doesn’t cover all of it but this was the easiest way I could think to sum it all up!

I like the idea of grian needing glasses to see properly.

He's just a lad who wore glasses in yhs, and looked overall harmless

But maybe Sam accidentally destroyed his during ts, so he needed to squint all the time, unintentionally making himself look more threatening (esp with a gun💀)

Hermit!grian got new glasses, but every time he takes them off, he looks intimidating once more
