Castle Ivana, Part 2 - The Exploration Begins...

Castles are often seen as romantic, mysterious strongholds, seething with secrets. What hidden chambers or unknown passageways might they hold? What mysteries do they hide within?  Castle Ivana invites all of these thoughts into one’s imagination. Situated on a lush tropical island known as Honey Isle, Castle Ivana overlooks the sea. It immediately draws you in. Castle Ivana isn’t like any other club in Second Life. As you pass through the large arched entranceway, your mind is already racing with curiosity.

What Secrets are within?

As you enter, you find yourself in a large ballroom, complete with a welcome area,  a stage with dance poles for slaves, large bar for customers and many R&R spots for socializing, relaxation and sexual interactions. 

The eye tends to direct itself to two things at once upon entering the castle: The stage and the bar.  The stage might have some very sensual activity going on when you enter, because the Castle Slaves often entertain the clients by doing pole dances there...  This is a very seductive welcome for the men who frequent the establishment, and it gives them a chance to check out the Slaves, and decide who they desire.  These ladies are very friendly and welcome you as you enter.

The bar sits directly across from the stage.  There is no question it was created with male clients in mind.  The dark wood and leather upholstery promotes images of smoking cigars and a scotch on the rocks. This is a bar for men who know what they want. Here, a man can have a strong drink, relax and watch the ladies dance, and expect to take what he wants when he is ready to take it.

And now it’s time to socialize a bit, perhaps flirt with a Slave, or talk with a fellow customer.  A number of cozy sitting areas are scattered about, inviting intimate conversation and a little more, too.

As you traverse deeper into the castle, you will find a treasure trove of rooms.  There are 21 rooms, each with a different theme. For example, the Modern Room is where they place the latest thing in SL. This could be a new sofa with fresh animations for threesomes or foursomes, or a new Master’s chair. Room themes vary anywhere from hardcore to romantic. There is something for every fetish and fantasy.  The details within are spectacular, and no two rooms are alike.

Each room is actually a different skybox set somewhere on the Sim, and Ivana has made entry into each one seamless. If you have access to the rooms, you only need to click on the door and it opens.  Then click again, and walk inside.   You exit the same way. Only group members have access to the secrets within.  Visitors may come and tour the castle, but you must be a member to have access.

There are too many rooms to cover individually right away, so I’ll give you brief brush of some of the ones I visited, but really, each room deserves its own blog article! The details and attention given to each one is bar non.

Castle Ivana, Part 1 - Meet Ivana Hanni

Castle Ivana has been part of SL since 2009, making it one of the most established and long-lasting clubs on the grid.  Before I introduce you to the interior design features and the many rooms of this establishment, I think it is important for you to know its history, how it came about, and most importantly, meet the owner, Ivana, who had the inspiration to create this most intriguing place, fraught with deep detail and beauty, and full of wonderful surprises.

Club-owner, Ivana Hanni is a sharp, sexual, beautiful lady who has built her estate here for both business and pleasure. Ivana was originally on SL as a slave owned by a Master. She enjoyed being his submissive and letting him dominate.  When the Master left SL for personal reasons, Ivana set out to find another place in SL where she could enjoy herself. She prefers men to be the hunters they are, and doesn’t wish to dominate them. She tried to find a club that fits her desires, but when she explained to people she doesn’t wish to dominate men, and that she is straight and doesn’t wish to have women in her bed, they called her primitive and old fashioned. Since she could not find what she wanted in SL, she decided to create a club of her own that fits exactly the way she liked it, where boys are boys and women are toys.

This lady doesn’t just focus only on being a hostess, main slave and owner of her castle, but has a number of social media platforms as well.  In addition to running her club, her activities involve maintaining two Flickr pages and filming amateur SL porn using machinima.

But back to the castle! This castle is a reflection of Ivana’s sexual fantasies, and draws others who share the same desires.  The sexual theme within Castle Ivana is a straight boy/girl combination. Men lead all the way. There are no female doms or male slaves. The men are those who want women who are submissive and slave-like.  The women are those who desire being enjoyed by men in this manner, as much as Ivana does.

For Ivana, there is a big difference between having sex and being ‘taken.” The women you will meet in the club crave the feeling of being taken...they want to be dominated and be treated as slaves.  They wear the best clothes, using guidelines Ivana has created for them to dress by, and they are there to obey her members. The men who join the club come to enjoy the women.  They wish to dominate women, to have women submit... to take them lustfully, romantically, hardcore, or otherwise. It is up to the man as to how.  It is important to note that Ivana tests all the men herself personally before allowing them to join. She needs to ensure that they are men who know what they want, and take what they want. Currently there are 30 or 40 male members, but not all are active on SL at the same time.  Some have been members since 2009.  There are about 50 women. Most of the women come to the castle every day but some come on weekends and some are periodic. One thing they all have in common is that they always come back.

COZY AUTUMN DAYS - a Fall Tour

I love autumn.  Autumn is a colorful, cozy and nostalgic time for me. The smell of burning leaves in the late afternoon.  The crisp cool air while a bright sun in a clear sky shines on the purple-red leaves of a maple tree,  The smell of warm golden doughnuts wafting out of the kitchen. Halloween. Seeing your breath in the air at night. Autumn is golden, hazy, warm and melodic. To celebrate autumn, I decided to explore some of ways builders and creators in SL have added autumn-oriented products into our regular interior decor. Fall has come. Winter is coming!  But first, let’s explore Autumn interiors in SL.

Nothing says Fall like Food.  Pumpkin pie, hot green tea and fall fruit like apples, all by JIAN. Using food on your table in SL can be a great way to represent Autumn. This cute little treehouse kitchen below is so inviting too!  This lovely retreat was creatively put together as one package by Trompe Loeil - Antique Crate Decor.  Trompe Loeil could be your perfect autmun "go to" for a cute prefab cabin, tree house or cottage, fit for Fall!

Next up, let’s discuss #textures.  What kind of textures in a home interior speak to you of fall? Warm wood textures, like Maple, Walnut, Cherry and perhaps White Oak come to mind for me.  A warm wood texture on the wall of a house, cottage or forest lodge can get you in the Fall frame of mind.  There are many available, in both prefab homes as well as individually.

This beautiful log-cabin home kitchen below, with ornate wooden cabinetry, can be seen in one of the many fine builds by Potomac Signature Homes.  This builder uses the natural beauty of wood, sometimes combined with stone, to create rustic country homes that are perfect for Autumn living.

How about a cozy couch and a cup of Pumpkin Spice chai tea?  I stopped in at a friend’s villa on a brisk autumn day.  She had a warm fire going in the fire place too. Couch is the [vandelo] Chelsea Couch, and has poses to help get you comfy on a fall afternoon.  That warm crackling fire you see in the photo is Fireplace # 1, Yellow Rose, and you can turn the sound on or off, as you please.

An inexpensive way to dress up your home for fall is using pictures.  SL is full of festive and fun artwork that you can hang on your walls to give your living space a Fall feel.  My visit to one of the Halloween Sims, Halloween Delights, at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Amazing%20Island/132/169/1657  introduced me to some of the choices available. These pictures go from $49L to $99L.  This same SIM also sells a number of other Fall-oriented items, including welcome rugs, candles, wreaths and posters. Shibboleth’s Dungeon and Aftercare Garden - Part 2: The Aftercare Garden

In Part 1, I introduced you to Shibboleth’s Dungeon, which has also been featured in several Machinima films.  It was a dark place used for purposeful punishment, correction and guidance.  However, as with all dark places, there should be a place of light to balance out the darkness.  This is the purpose of the Aftercare Garden that Shibboleth created.  The Garden is meant to be a place of healing after correction has been completed.

I typically blog about interiors, but I think I would have failed to have completed my task in describing the dungeon if I did not include this place.  It is essential to the dungeon, and is part of it.

I met Shibboleth at his aftercare garden for our main dialog about his dungeon.  As we sat and chatted, he invited one of his submissives to come dance for us.  Tara came immediately, as it is her duty to please Shibboleth.  She does as he commands, and when he told her she was to dance for us, she complied immediately.

As we watched this very beautiful avi dance pleasingly before us (Her personality was also very sweet and pleasing) we discussed Shibboleth’s dungeon.  You can read about the dungeon in Part 1.  During our discussion, Shibboleth also multi-tasked and tended to his land, changing some of the colors around us in the foliage to display hints of early fall.  He is able to do this using animated trees through Hyabusa Design and various seasonal static trees. Hyabusa trees are created to blow with the wind and change with seasons if you wish, and are very realistic. You can even customize your own trees at this vendor’s store. Shibboleth cares very much about his surroundings and it shows.  He tends to the details of his sim with great care and attention.

Early fall is upon us

Shibboleth disclosed that he uses the aftercare garden to cuddle his submissives after their correction in the dungeon has been completed.  He feels it is important to build them back up after they have been beaten down in the dungeon.  He takes time to build their confidence and morale back up here in this beautiful setting. I learned that the aftercare garden is set in a sky dome above Shibb’s land. Shibboleth established the garden in the Sky Dome 100m Multitexture by Charles Fauna, sold by Anthony Gartner of The Dreamer Creations

Some of the cuddling (and other times, more than cuddling) takes place on the Vivid Heat Bed by  Xplicit Furnishings. Shibboleth explained that this bed uses some of the older animations in Second Life.  I was pleased to hear that!  While we have many new animations to enjoy here, there are older ones from previous years that are equally enjoyable. I was happy to hear that Shibboleth also still saw their value.  When it comes to animations, old can become new again.  I want to suggest to you, dear readers, that a mix of old and new is a nice way to go.  I believe it makes your home more interesting when there are varied and different furnishings and animations, particularly animations you don’t come across every day because they are no longer mainstream.

For casual entertainment, Shibboleth has added Xplicit’s Erotic Dance Table 2 with an Xplicit seat so he can watch and enjoy.  This is where we sat to watch Tara and discuss the dungeon.  There is also the fully animated 62 position sex piano by Reeves, also an older SL item.

A few days after the interview with Shibboleth, I returned to the Aftercare Garden to finish some notes.  As the sun set in the background, I made my way over to the fountain, whose tranquil splashing sounds added a nice ambiance to this part of Shibboleth’s land.  The fountain is KIDD Fountain by Dop Kid. Dop did a nice job with this, including the textures and water.

The Aftercare Garden transforms once night falls.  The fountain, I learned, serves as a source of radiant light for evening scenes.  The same goes for the torch across the courtyard from the fountain, created by aa Build and Design, which is owned by Jake 1un. Both of these threw light across the roman cobblestones, adding a glowing warmth to the setting.  The cobblestone floor, I have learned, is a texture map placed directly onto the roof of the dungeon, below.  A simply built separation between lightness and darkness.

The aftercare garden is a calm and serene place that is very relaxing. Shibboleth was generous enough to invite me to drop by whenever I pleased, so I plan to enjoy this spot again soon.

Shibboleth’s Dungeon and Aftercare Garden PART 1: The Dungeon

The purpose a dungeon serves may mean different things to different people, but to Shibboleth a dungeon is used for correction and guidance. It is not a place of cruelty, although on the surface, a dungeon might appear to invite just that. As a Dom, Shibboleth practices correction when his subs mess with him or piss him off. 

Shibboleth’s dungeon is set up for the scenes he anticipates playing out, typically starting with discipline while sitting in the A+ Daddy's Chair 2.32 created and sold by Archdemon.   Then, depending on his mood, Shibb may continue with the BH fur bondage bed, which is RLV driven (as are most of these creations), or the BDSM Bed, classic v3 by Nihil Animations.  Lesser used items in the room include the Slave Cage and the Black Metal Powercage by Akaesha, which Shibboleth has dubbed “the cube.”

The Daddy’s chair is meant to be the main focal point of the dungeon, and sits facing the rest of the room.  

A popular item I have seen in many dungeons is the sacrificial cross.  Shibboleth has two of these standing behind the Daddy’s Chair: The. *KL* Multipose St. Andrews Cross, created by KL Kiki is red and the *GEL* RLV Bondage Cross,6.0 is black.  Crosses are very good ways to restrain and punish submissives and they are a good aesthetic addition to any dungeon.

The dungeon itself evokes a sinister and daunting sense of foreboding.  You hear the creaking of the rigging on the gallows and bondage devices. The sinful pleasures slideshow displays enthralling scenes that mesmerize you, and yet at the same time appear agitating and demoralizing, digging up deep apprehension and making you want to look away. But do you? Do you turn away, or keep watching as the scenes change? 

It is obvious that this is a place of punishment and pain, but again, it is not a place of cruelty. This is a place of purposeful correction.  

The dungeon itself is a low-prim skybox with dungeon textures. The skybox is located on Shibboleth’s land, and is only one of many features and buildings on this particular SIm.  Shibb explained that he started creation of the dungeon with a texture and a scenery he enjoyed, and built from there.  He built from the outside in, and the furniture and instruments are arranged in symmetry. 

If you wish to shop for items to create your own customized dungeon, here are some of the places you may wish to visit.  Remember, a dungeon is matter of very personal tastes and choices. If you choose to build your own, take careful time in planning what you really want to do in it. Put a lot of thought into the torture methods you wish to utilize, and what types of punishments you desire to mete out. It is important to select devices and pieces that can bring your most desired scenes to life.

SL Decorating Challenge 2: Big Prim Love

While looking for a four-post bed for an apartment I was decorating, I happened across the “bed of all beds”, the Antique Oak Bed V2 - Country Cream - ADULT by  'Laminak' Original Mesh - Historical Fantasy Furniture.  

I immediately fell in love with everything about this particular bed.  The detail of the woodwork, the color, the fabric, and the animations of the bed.  Only problem is that it was 26 prims! Yikes! I had an entire apartment to decorate, and I was trying to keep the prims low.  Has this ever happened to you?

At first, I tried very hard to find something comparable to this lovely bed. I must have visited roughly ten to fifteen other stores in SL, plus searched on marketplace, to try to find something else that would work for less prims.  Nothing came close.  I found a few other four post beds at Akaesha and Lok’s Low Prim Furniture, but they didn’t work for me.  I simply HAD to have THIS bed. So I bought it... but how do you then make up for less prims in a space you had planned for more?  I had a full apartment to fill. Here my tips and tricks on how I managed it:

Enlarge your 1 prim pictures to use up more wall space

Use a few other visually larger-sized furniture pieces to fill the room, that are less prims

Use 1 prim area rugs to fill up the room

Use a lot of textured looks around the room to make the space look more filled. 

To save using separate lamps, candles or chandeliers for lighting, try to find items that include lighting as part of the furniture piece. I found a fireplace with a built in wall mantle that served that purpose, for this apartment.

So how do you think I did with this? I ended up using about 60 prims total for this apartment, and even squeezed in some food and coffee....so I could have even done it for less than 60 if I hadn’t wanted to eat!

Here are some shots of my own home in SL.  I live with my husband Sebb.  This is our home.  We enjoy contemporary, open spaces that are beach-themed.  It is important to personalize your home as much as possible in SL.  I always try to add nice, personal touches to our living space...that’s what makes it special for us.  Sebb loves to fish, so I have made sure to include some fishing-themed items in our home.  We also both love the ocean and the beach, so you will find things that remind you of those places here as well.

Introductions First!

Hello! Buenos Dias! Bon jour! Most importantly, welcome to my Blog! If you’re interested in Interior Decorating in Second Life, you might have found your way here.  Maybe you’re a newbie who wants to learn more about how to decorate, or maybe you’re a professional interior designer in-world who is curious about this blog. No matter who you are, I am glad you took an interest!

This blog is just starting up so I am not sure what direction it will take regarding Interior Decorating.  I love to decorate my home in-world, and I am always so impressed and inspired with what others have created or done to their homes. I am constantly amazed at the creativity and talent in SL. This blog is more than just me writing about interior decoration, but it is also a tribute to all the SL creators and their amazing furniture builds, textures, doors, windows, potted plants and anything else that applies to interior design. 

In-world, when I am filling time on my own, I find I am mainly a gawker and a shopper.  I thought I would contribute a little bit more now, and perhaps become a blogger as well.
