this year while we all celebrate pride month and celebrate ourselves as well as those who came before us and paved the way for us to do so, we must also think of those in gaza, queer or not, who live every day under a brutal occupation and don’t have that same privilege. happy pride, and may we see a free palestine in this lifetime.

So terrified that I'll teach people how to defend themselves.
HAH
you are weak
You are composed of nothing but fear and piss
You will disintegrate so easily
My Angels might as well have bit of fun with your undoing

I do not know hatred.
It's with pure love that I slaughter you.
It's with gratitude that I crush your spirit and leave your body for the wolves.
I stand in the light as I destroy you. The whole world shall know this, and support it. They, too, pray for justice.
Our war cry drowns out your pathetic plea.
We do this with love.

Shall perish by the next full moon.
My Angels will feed you poison.

Censorship erases and dismisses conversations about difficult topics. Ignoring trauma doesn't ever help and if you never read about something you can never be informed about it in the event you are exposed to it in your real life. Because, and I hate to break it to you buddy, but censoring something in media WILL NOT prevent it in real life. It will only empower the people who do the thing in real life because everyone else will be uninformed i.e. vulnerable.
Content warnings, on the other hand, give you the freedom to decide whether or not you want to engage in a piece of content. If you do not want to see certain topics in your life, then a content warning provides you with the option of ignoring media which addresses or analyses such topics. Censorship removes your options or ability to think for yourself.
You don't need to tape someone's mouth shut. If you don't want to listen to something, take responsibility for yourself and stick your fingers in your ears instead.
"I don't want to read this" is totally valid.
"This is disgusting to me" is totally valid.
"I don't want to read this because it is disgusting to me" is totally valid.
"I don't think anyone should be allowed to read or write this because it is disgusting to me" is authoritarian.

Hijab Butch Blues: A Memoir
Lamya H
When fourteen-year-old Lamya H realizes she has a crush on her teacher--her female teacher--she covers up her attraction, an attraction she can't yet name, by playing up her roles as overachiever and class clown. Born in South Asia, she moved to the Middle East at a young age and has spent years feeling out of place, like her own desires and dreams don't matter, and it's easier to hide in plain sight. To disappear. But one day in Quran class, she reads a passage about Maryam that changes everything: When Maryam learned that she was pregnant, she insisted no man had touched her. Could Maryam, uninterested in men, be . . . like Lamya? From that moment on, Lamya makes sense of her struggles and triumphs by comparing her experiences with some of the most famous stories in the Quran. She juxtaposes her coming out with Musa liberating his people from the pharoah; asks if Allah, who is neither male nor female, might instead be nonbinary; and, drawing on the faith and hope Nuh needed to construct his ark, begins to build a life of her own--ultimately finding that the answer to her lifelong quest for community and belonging lies in owning her identity as a queer, devout Muslim immigrant. This searingly intimate memoir in essays, spanning Lamya's childhood to her arrival in the United States for college through early-adult life in New York City, tells a universal story of courage, trust, and love, celebrating what it means to be a seeker and an architect of one's own life.
