Yeah, honestly I'll probably post when I get to making the obi section for the cosplay and tag you when I find how to place the obijime! But it was nice bouncing off ideas and thoughts off each other to try and decipher it!!!
@thecrowsart re the obi knot for 2024 Mononoke's Kusuriuri
I didn't have the right obi type for it, I used a hanhaba obi sash for the grip/strength of the fabric, so the proportions aren't perfect and I haven't nailed the length balance for the ends to stick out equally, but basically I folded some parts in half, some loop de loops, etc. This was before we got a full view of his back from the last trailer so it might need revisions. I'm gonna try making some fukuro obi mock ups for better knot testing, and marking when what fabric starts when, as fukuro obi sashes will sometimes have changes in fabric for cool effects on specific knots, which seems to be the case with this one (thus why it changes from red to purple to checkered) the little knot in the main knot is clearly an obiage, it's orange so highly unlikely to be part of the obi, plus shape is rounder so yeah. Basically this hole thing is like, knot base inspired by actually Tateya musubi knot on a fukuro obi, but the ends of the knot are the tips of the sash, whereas a tateya musubi can't do that the way it's folded.

So yeah this goes a bit crazy
Someone in one of my cosplay servers suggested it might be based off Kabuki obi sashes, which had cords at the ends to tie them faster for theatre changes etc. Kusuriuri's does have a string wrapped around the obijime, so like maybe? But idk, also I'd much rather make a full one piece sash obi than have to un piece how to make a Kabuki inspired sash...
Tho tbh looks more like a cord for the round mirror, so could be wrong

Yep I'm referring to the red and white ones cause they look like the round type with tassel like ends:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here are some better views from trailer 3:
these two show the horizontal part goes into the back knot:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this one shows the white cord loop on the side has both ends attached to the back, so probably a continuation of the two cords on the belt and shoulder
Tumblr media
So the way I see it, this is what the white obijime cord's path is:
Tumblr media
As for the red, idk yet, I wonder if maybe it's not used for tying the turquoise layer and thus isn't anywhere near the obi but under the lateral fold (the one under the obi belt that is used to control kimono length)
But yeah I'm discovering as I go with this

I thought the red trim was an obijime too after the second trailer but the third trailer and promo art closeups confirmed it was the lining of the obi.

Some obi sashes have changes of fabric on them, which require to be folded precisely. Tho this design's liberties make it more contrasted and complex than usual fukuro sashes, but basically this is what I'm referring to:

Honestly this cosplay has made me learn so much about Japanese garments!
As for the obijime, I'm pretty sure it's just the white and red cords he has dangling on his hip and shoulder, and a bit as an ankle bracelet (??? Who does that), but in my tests, it does go in the folds of the sash. But they don't peek out of the top of the obi like obiage do when placed there. His obiage is strictly only visible in the back in the knot.
