i just wanted to check in and let everyone know that i see the love uve sent

this past week has been super difficult. my family might be ok and safe but my community is forever changed

my safe place, my home, was violated to a point of no return. a girl i used to dance with moms past away after being shot in the chest.

my life has been changed for the worst

i don't really use this acc at all so i'm gonna use it instead of anything else i have. nobody's gonna notice or care but i need to talk about this just a bit.

i live in highland park, illinois. yes, the one on the news. no, i wasn't there. my family and i decided to skip the morning parade this year and instead go to the fireworks-watching festival we have. the way things are set up is that the morning parade is mostly for families with little kids and the high school teams, while the fireworks festival is more for teenagers and adults. there's actually a competition throughout june where different high school bands of all different genres perform against one another, and whichever group wins the bracket gets to play at the festival. i used to go to those battles of the bands with my mom (don't judge, we stan my mom) whenever we got the chance to and then go get ice cream at the place just across the street.

that plaza where the bands would play is covered in blood and bullet holes now. i really want that ice cream but i can't have it because it's in an active crime scene. this js my home and it's been taken from me by some monster who planned for weeks to attack an event he knew was mostly young families. i wasn't there, but close friends were. my neighbors had a son on one of the floats because he was part of the baseball team and he hurt himself jumping off the fire truck that was being used as a float. the kid down the street was at the center of a massive search for his family after being separated dur8ng the shooting, only to discover that the reason he was without his parents is because those parents were lying dead in the street. my best friend was at the french bakery the next street over eating breakfast when she heard screaming and saw people running, and immediately started calling for her cousins who were at the parade with their 3 year old.

what do i even say to this? nothing's gonna happen. we're the same as parkland, as sandy hook, as so so so many others who were given 'support' and then abandoned in favor of bickering over who cares. my home feels wrong, every single person i know is suffering, and novody can do anything but talk about the shooter's political leanings.

just let us grieve.

for the love of god please listen to old users when we say this site works differently. that you can’t just sit around with a blank blog. make posts or reblog, but do something at least. this site works because we don’t have an unavoidable garbage algorithm forcefeeding us posts based on our likes. we do not need another fucking twitter, tiktok or instagram.
