Bg3 Gale rambles ( I love this stupid wizard sm)
Wizard brainworms are brainworming (brain tadpole-ing dare I say hehe ok I'll stop) and I need to talk about my favorite wizard. I keep thinking about that time he spent locked up in his tower: hungry, afraid, and so very lonely after feeling the presence of a goddess--one that likely never wavered--for years. I imagine him being terrified of even Tara coming to visit him in fear of the orb's detonation and hurting someone he loves. I think about him opening the window and sitting on the edge of his tower just to hear the noise of trees rustling or birds chirping. Anything's better than a silent house with occasional creaking floors. He probably wrote letters to his mother, to Tara, to Mystra, even so that he'd have some way to say goodbye when it ended. He probably prayed to Mystra, probably asked her over and over again--not even for forgiveness--for another chance to apologize. And again, nothing but silence. I bet he barred his mother from visiting at all and even if she'd come he'd refuse to answer to the door. He couldn't face her, whether he knew the orb would be steady all day or not. He didn't want her to see him disheveled and desperate, most days curled in on himself waiting for Tara to return with some object that he knew, horribly, would one day be less effective. I think about how he waited each day to die and then suddenly some silly little adventurers come along and he gets to live.
This game and its gorgeous dedication to what could seem like an obvious theme--life is worth living-- is made just so special by the way each plotline feels so emotionally potent through the creation and care of these companions. The lives we can imagine they lived and that they live with us feel so rich and I just think that in a world where so much media can feel stale, overproduced, and hollow, it's so refreshing and lovely to have an entire cast of people I could write pages upon pages of rambles about.
Anyway go feed your Gale his daily Gale snacks and remind him you love him.

A baby wizard and his very bestest friend 🥺 I always imagined Gale as a kid who didn’t have a lot of friends so suddenly this lil tressym shows up and decided she’s gonna take care of him forever.
just met Tara for the first time in my game! i love her a lot :)
