I think what I love about 1010 is there's so much POTENTIAL in their story. They've got a great foundation concept and I absolutely love all the different (and sometimes similar!) ideas other fans come up with ^_^

(Also I'm weak for robots finding Emotions and Found Families trope)

YEAH. YEAH!

This is really good collection of the world building surrounding 1010 that takes place in Metro District. You really hit it on the nail why I think so many fans are drawn to the idea of sentient 1010 because so much groundwork was already laid that while not explicit, it's still plausible. ^_^

Also, this does make me feel better making my way-too-overdramatic comics heeeh 😬

Okay as much as I love the idea of each of the 1010 boys being sentient and having seperate personalities, it does raise a question.

Have any of them ever had an existential crisis about the fact that they can be replaced? Like, if one of them gets destroyed the flying factory can just pop out a complete copy?

Like, the flying factory just pops out another 1010 bot right IN FRONT OF THEM during the battle with BBj, and they have no reaction to it, so they have to have been aware at least some time PRIOR to the fight.

Do they EVER think about this????

Like do they ever have some kind of existential monologue?

LOL I will be the first to admit that I'm totally guilty of over-indulging in fanon 1010. I too really like the idea of robots gaining ✨emotions and feelings✨ and questioning their value and self-worth! The drama~! The angst~! Are they merely tools to be so easily discarded and replaced or something moar?? 👀 It's such good stuff that it's actually the core story idea behind another comic I'm working on! (ppl might have seen my wips of "Repair Work"?)

But fan self-indulgence aside, in canon, 1010 actually seem very... nonchalant about being destroyed...? I mean, this was their idiotic (affectionate) reaction to being Shakalaka-Bammed by B2J:

Poor Neon J seems like the only one concerned. (Aww, he's shielding them, so sweet 🤗) It's almost like 1010 can't even *comprehend* the concept of death. Are they simply not that sentient? Or do they not worry because they can be easily rebuilt by the factory? Perhaps their robot bodies are merely wireless avatars they operate remotely while 1010's actual central processing server (aka consciousness) is stored somewhere safe like Barraca Mansion.

It would explain how quickly they fall back in sync even after being destroyed and how callously Neon J blows up their bodies during his Phase 3 fight. Because the body is just a shell and their actual processor is somewhere else? But that's just my fan theory.

I mean, at the end of day, 1010 is obviously a play on the whole 'idol churning machine' and the 'inherent fakeness and artificialness of performers' etc... etc...

And let's be honest: At face value, they don't seem as emotionally complex as us fans make them out to be.

SO IS IT ALL IN OUR HEADS? DO IDOL-ROBO-BOYBAND NOT FEEL???

Well. Hmm. They do seem rather *ahem* robotic when they fought against B2J and showed no indication they had individual personalities.

....Except for one last image in the end credits:

I guess if we're to take a more nuanced middle-ground, 1010 probably doesn't suffer from as much emotional distress as we love to portray in fanfic (BUT THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT INTERESTING DAMMIT) however, they do show some degree of sentience and differing personality based on that End Credit image. 😎

OMG IT'S DONE. IT'S DONE!

A whooping final six pages! I'm gonna go through everything one last time to check if I missed anything but I hope to post last part of Lost & Found comic soon!

I hope the pacing is ok; because I took such a long break between pages I put a lot of effort into the flow. *cross fingers* I also erm... read a lot of manga/manhwa in between drawings and the influence is obvious hahaha... 😅😅😅

If 1010 had to sing a meme song, I'm leaning with 'Kiss from a Rose on the Grave.' On the grounds that it's great for harmonizing and has lots of opportunities for dramatic posing. You get to hear this because I finally decided to take a poke at the NSR fandom beyond "Carrith has pretty art with fun/cool/both stories, wheeeeee~" and I have literally no one else to inform of my revelation. Also, I see why everyone loves the boy-bots and their manager, they're even more fun than I thought!

I gave everyone trauma. Everyone gets trauma in this story. Now is Captain Neon J's turn. 😤 Again, a lot of (popular) fan ideas in this part -- like maybe Neon J had a human body before but lost it during the Border Wars. So now he has severe depression, hoarding and body image issues to cope with. Also, his hands aren't as nimble as they were when he was a human toymaker.

For MK-1 White, I gave him a lil' makeshift qwasa backpack because I had this idea that White has bad batteries/takes awhile to charge so Neon J just jury-rigged a temporary solution.

MK-1 White continues to be weirdly adorable. My fav panel is him learning to walk and tripping on a pile of garbage with his crooked hat. ^_^

Also thanks for continuing to read my (very, very slowly updating) NSR fancomics about robo bois and their cyborg dad being sad and learning about life. (～￣▽￣)～

Update time!

2023 is here and I am still very much fixated on that robot boyband and their dad manager. 👀👀👀

Very excited to share that I am making progress with Repair Work comic! Sketched up to page 14 and coloring is ongoing for page 7. Text and dialogue bubbles being added to page 5. But I do worry that I’m going too slow and one day when I finally release it there will be no NSR fans T_T (big fear!) but for now I keep moving on! 😤

Continuation for Lost & Found hit a bit of a snag because I'm not very sure what direction to take the conversation. I’ve got all these little plot ideas that I’m struggling to somehow thread together 😅😅😅 What do YOU think should happen next lol?
