We're Proud to Introduce Cadence

There are a lot of fantastic Tumblr themes designed for highly visual blogs full of photo and video posts and others that work incredibly well with long-form written posts, but few themes work well for both.  Jonathan Moore, founder of Style Hatch, designed and built Cadence with the mixture of visual posts and well written articles in mind.

Virtually every visual detail in Cadence can be customized with the color and background image options.  Additionally the theme comes packed with other options to control the layout, add comment, feature your Instagram shots and much more. Below you will find a list of all the theme features and options, but if you have questions feel free to email us.

Responsive Layout

The types of devices and ways that people are viewing your blog are growing exponentially, so having a layout for your blog that adapts from the largest resolution monitors down to mobile views is important.  Go ahead and try it out, resize your browser window down to get an idea of how the layout changes.  We have tested and optimized

Cadence for iOS devices (iPad and iPhone) but it should work for other mobile devices just the same.

Social Features

We realize you spend a lot of time on other platforms outside of Tumblr, so we have built in ways to display your recent tweets, Instagram feed, Disqus comments and easy ways to share, like and pin your posts on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus and Pinterest.

Additionally you will find a handful of social networks that you can link to in the Customize menu.

Customization Options

Our goal is to give you the creative freedom to customize Cadence to fit your personal style and genius.  With the color options, background images, layout options and social integrations the flexibility is unlimited.

Colors

Header Background - Change up the color that appears behind the top header.  To see the background color, make sure you clear out any header background image that might be set.

Header Color - Sets the color of the text in the header.

Header Accent - Sets the accent color in the header that is used for links.

Site Background - Change the color that appears in the overall site background.  If you want to set a solid background color, make sure you clear out site background image.

Page Background - Sets the background color that appears behind all of the posts.

Title Color - Sets the color used for all the post, section and header titles throughout the blog.

Text Color - Sets the color of the text used for posts throughout the blog.

Accent Color - The accent color effects the link underline color, hover colors and a number of other small details in the theme.

Subtle Color - Sets the text color for elements in the layout that should appear less prominent.  This is used for the post footers so that the focus remains on the post content.

Subtle Background - Sets the background color behind subtle color elements and the background for Chat and Question posts.

Images

Logo - The logo that you upload will appear in the header to the left of your site title and description.  As the layout changes to a mobile layout the logo will appear above the description.

Icon - With this image option you can upload a square image that appears to the left of your blog navigation bar.  By default the theme will load in your Tumblr profile icon.

Header Background - Upload an image to be used in the header of the site.  You have the option of filling the background image like you see on the Cadence demo site.

Site Background - Upload an image to be displayed as the site's background.  You have the option of filling the background image, but the Cadence demo site has this disabled so that the background repeats.

Options

Feature First Post - Enabling this option will make the first post on each page display at the full width.  If you want all posts to be the full width turn off "Two Column Layout"

Two Column Layout - By default the theme will display your posts in a two column grid, but you can turn this off to have full width posts.

Infinite Scrolling - Turning this option on allows people to load page after page of posts as they scroll down.

Capitalize Titles - We think the all capital titles look amazing, but if you're not digging it turn this feature off.

Stretch Photos To Fit - Do you post low resolution images?  You might want to turn this option off so that your Photo posts do not stretch and look pixelated.

Show Icon Square - If you want to hide the square icon to the left of the navigation bar, turn this option off.

Hide Nav Bar - If you have a blog without any pages or navigation, it might look best to hide the nav bar all together.

Fill Header Background Image - Fill the background image so that it stretches nicely to take up the entire area.

Fill Site Background Image - Fill the background image so that it stretches and fills the entire background.

Show Sites I Follow - If you blog is a primary Tumblr blog you have the option of showing or hiding sites that you follow on Tumblr.

Dark Social Icons - Turn this option off to use the lighter social icons.  This is useful if you go with a dark color scheme for you layout.

Custom Text

Authors Title -Set the title show above the list of group blog authors.

Liked Title - Set the title show above the list of liked posts.

Tweets Title - Set the title show above the recent tweets.

Instagram Title - Set the title above the recent Instagram shots.

Following Title - Set the title above the list of blogs that you are following on Tumblr.

Social Title - Set the title above the collection of social icon links.

Footer Copyright - Set the footer copyright show at the bottom of the sidebar.

Add-Ons

Disqus ID - Add your Disqus Site Shortname to enable comments for your site. Click here to register for a Disqus site account.

Google Analytics ID - Ascender has asynchronous Google Analytics tracking built into the theme, all you need to do is add your site ID to this option.

Clicky ID - For realtime tracking of who is on your site right now, goals, campaigns and Twitter monitoring add your Click ID.  Clicky does charge for their analytics and tracking, but I highly recommend it for people who are stats junkies.  Sign up for an account with Clicky. 

Instagram Access Token - To add your recent Instagram shots head over to stylehatch.co/instagram and follow the easy steps to authorize the theme with Instagram and get your access token.

Typekit ID - Add your Typekit site ID enable custom typography and font-face fonts for your site.  For detailed directions check out our help article on adding Typekit to your Tumblr blog.

Body Font Family, Title Font Family - Add a standard CSS font stack or Typekit CSS font name to control the body and title fonts.

Social Links

Add URLs to display the following social site icons below your site description. Note: Make sure you add the full URL, including “http://”.

Behance, Cargo Collective, Delicious, Digg, Dribbble, Etsy, Facebook, FFFFound, Flickr, Formspring, Forrst, Foursquare, Github, Google Plus, Instagram, Last.fm, Linked In, Pinterest, Quora, Rdio, Skype, Spotify, Slideshare, Soundcloud, Stumbled Upon, Twitter, Vimeo, generic website link, Youtube, and your email address.

Lushlife “Magnolia”

Every word to “Magnolia” (188) was handmade using cardboard (discarded from grocery stores), hot glue guns, and paint pens. Random people at over 65+ locations and a handful of friends were used as rappers throughout the video. The video was done completely practical (no CGI) and wound up costing a little under $80.

Instrument x VSCO Film

Visual Supply Co recently featured the creative workspace of Portland’s digital agency Instrument.

We are in an open seating plan. No offices. No cubicles. 70 desks all along one end of the 13,000 square foot space. Meeting rooms, lined with whiteboards, fill the other end. Down the center is the teepee, several small sitting areas and lunch tables. The 20 ft tall, wooden teepee is soundproofed on the inside and outfitted for video conferencing. All of our furniture was designed and built by Ben Klebba of Phloem Studio.

How do theme updates work? Are they free? Do I need to do anything?

With Tumblr premium themes we have the ability to submit updates to each of the themes. Once Tumblr approves the update, it will automatically apply to your blog, and all of the updates are free!

The only exception is if you edit the theme’s HTML. In that case you will need to manually update your blog. We’re glad to help you out with that over email - [email protected].
