[ID: a very simply drawn three panel comic. the first panel shows a person approaching a cat that's laying on the floor and reaching down to hug her, saying "gertie." the second panel shows two coins falling from the person's shirt pocket. the third panel shows the coins bouncing off the cat, who doesn't care.]

the x files is funny because at the time it was “progressive” or whatever to have the ultra-rational, levelheaded character be a woman
but it’s also a show where all the fucked up alien shit actually is real, so she’s just constantly wrong about everything

It’s funny when American authors come up with a new European nation so their main character can be a secret royal without the pain of researching a real nation. We should all start doing that with North America, just make up a new state. My protagonist lives in New Utahioshington which is the 51st state and located between Delaware and Maryland

I actually really love that Hawkeye seems to consider 'Hawkeye' his Real Name, much moreso than Ben or Benjamin, and to a much stricter extent than any other nicknames we see, like Trapper, or even Radar, who seems overjoyed when football player Billy refers to him as Walter. I get the impression that Trapper thinks of himself as John, Klinger thinks of himself as Max, Radar thinks of himself as Walter even if he's resigned to only being known by a different name, etc, but Hawkeye thinks of himself as Hawkeye.
People, including Hawkeye, pretty much only ever refer to him as Ben or Benjamin in legal contexts, when yelling at him, when using his full name to make a joke, or to demonstrate their obnoxiousness (eg the Stars and Stripes guy in Depressing News). Even Daniel's use of "Ben" in The Party was in a mildly chastising context. tbf an aunt uses it in a letter too once, neutrally, but that's just how extended family is in my experience lol. He introduces himself as Hawkeye, corrects people when they use his legal name, and his childhood friends, his uni friends, and his ex girlfriend from his residency years all refer to him as Hawkeye.
Idk why I love it really lol, but it's a detail that I just dig. The sense of individualism, maybe? Hawkeye doesn't care for his stupid president name so he latches onto one that does have meaning for him and makes it his real name as far as anyone except paperwork filers are concerned? I do admire that vibe. Or maybe it's just that I can get attached to the names for characters we're given in canon and dislike when other names are used for them, at least in the wrong context (eg Starsky and Hutch referring to each other by first name after they fuck despite having already been about as emotionally intimate as possible) and I find it validating that Hawkeye also seems to dislike his alternate name and never uses it lol.

Good sci-fi is almost like religion in that it raises way more questions than it will ever answer and leaves you chewing on drywall. And that's the good part. Good sci-fi is just philosophy for weird people

superhero romance is actually so fun because what does “I would die for you” mean from a guy who would die for anyone?

Having a vagina honestly sucks bc it's like you have to do fucking alchemy just to prevent yourself from getting sick. You've got an intricate ecosystem of microorganisms down there that you're dependent on for your own well-being and they can be set off by the tiniest fucking thing
Keeping your pubes too short can cause yeast infections, but letting them get too long can also cause yeast infections. Washing the area with specialized soap can help prevent yeast infections, but it can also cause them. Your periods can cause yeast infections, and so can the medicine you take to stop your periods. Having sex can cause yeast infections, especially if the person you're having sex with is diabetic (???). Being diabetic can cause yeast infections. Wearing the wrong clothes or eating the wrong things can cause yeast infections. Not getting enough fucking sleep can cause yeast infections. The list is neverending
Luckily, yeast infections are fairly easy to treat with OTC medicine that you can find at any Walmart. BUT! Even if all of your symptoms indicate that you have a yeast infection, you have to take a test first to confirm that it's a yeast infection (they do not sell the tests at Walmart) bc you might actually have the opposite of a yeast infection (bacterial vaginosis) which has the exact same symptoms as a yeast infection but is caused by an imbalance of different microorganisms. And if you use yeast infection medicine to treat a bacterial infection it will light your pussy on fire. So if you have a bacterial infection, you must instead visit your local witch doctor (gynecologist) and get prescribed special potions (antibiotics) to treat it
Antibiotics can also cause yeast infections

Do people realize that Israel is so unrestrained that it’s now launching attacks in Lebanon and Syria as well. Do people realize how little Arab people mean to these genocidal maniacs that they are now killing people in three Arab countries. Can genocide apologists pause their pure hatred for Arabs to at the very least admit this. Or are we going to pretend that Israel has a reason to be intensifying attacks in Damascus right now

I've seen trans guys discuss being unwelcome in queer spaces the more they pass as men and I believe it not only because listening to other people's experiences is important, but bc I'm an intersex cis woman who passes effortlessly as a cis man and the same has been true for me. I am a femme dyke who makes other queers uncomfortable bc they perceive me as a man, or more masc than them. Times I've put myself into queer only spaces have often been awkward or uncomfortable or isolating.
Someone else mentioned they can't even make being a femme trans man work for them at least to be in irl queer spaces without fear from others bc they're fat and balding and that's the wrong way to have a gender. The same has been true for me! When you're fat and hairy but the head hair is thinner and you wanna dress femme, you're seen as a pig freak even by queer people. And you're automatically a threat to anyone more feminine than you, no matter what.
It's crazy how much I relate to so many experiences from trans women and men both. Do yall ever think about how much you relate to intersex people? Do you ever think about how these things affect intersex people outside of the lense of transphobia specifically? Do you ever consider your experience with transphobia "misdirected intersexism"?

A while back my psychopathology class did a basic overview of gender terms because we need to understand it to understand what the statistics we’ were given mean, and all I could think of was that xkcd quartz comic.
A guy said sex was “biological gender,” another guy said that a sex that is neither male nor female is nonbinary, and another guy said that a person who’s gender does not align with their sex is “gay.”

Advice I gave someone today was: 'do it stupid.'
She wants to learn photography. Do it stupid. Take a million photos. Don't think about why they're not good. Enjoy the process of taking photos.
Pick out tge ones you like the most and figure out why you like them. Is it because the subject is centered? Is it because you caught them doing something cool? Is it because the light made cool shadows?
Do it stupid. If you try to do it smart, youll get stuck. If you think too much you'll never get to doing. Do it stupid.

i'm keeping you in the time loop. it's the only way i know how to keep you safe. trapping you here, in the last day that you're alive, ignorant of what's to come as the sun sets. i dread each minute, a countdown to the end, but live in relief as all the blood washes away, all the would-be scars fade, and the tears dry before they have a chance to fall. but the memory of you dying in my arms remains, and so i'm keeping you in the time loop

Most tabletop RPGs don't bother to have a rule like "characters can't walk through walls." It is either implicit or prescribed through having a special ability that specifically allows one to do. Now, an RPG that specifically had a character option that stated "this character cannot walk through walls" would instantly reframe every other character in the game. If only a specific type of character has some limitation that we humans would assume to be self-explanatory, what the hell is the baseline in this game?
Games have implicit or explicit assumptions about their characters. In D&D it is assumed that characters can see, hear, speak, walk unassisted, and so on. These capabilities can be taken away but only through very specific rules interactions. A character's ability to see isn't marked until a player says that they would like to play a blind character.
I don't even know where I was going with this. This started out with me thinking about how funny it would be to make like a supplement for a game that features these really strange and specific abilities that suddenly change the assumptions of the game. Like, a supplement that has a creature with an ability like "Floorwalker: this creature can walk on floors." Because none of the other creatures in the game have that ability, it's now implicit that they can't walk on floors.
Anyway if anyone would like to help me salvage this post by saying something insightful go right ahead, I'm gonna go make some pasta.
