" Just one? I don't know if I could realistically pick one cause then it would mean I'm placing more value on someone than the other. I couldn't choose between my twin and my child I lost. But if I had to choose, I would say my child, because of the fact losing them cost more than just me. It affected more than just Buddy and I. There's a rare smile on Buddy's face at the approach, his interest in the flowers and the festivities was less than nil, his presence was in direct correlation with him knowing that she would be working part of the day at the Driftwood cart.

He's angling to take up the other part of her day.

Buddy knows his assumption is wholly untrue, in all the time he had known her Edie had never been one for playing games, but that didn't mean he didn't like fucking with her when he wasn't fucking her.

"I guess you could call us trauma bonded or whatever. Our dads were in the same hospital -- same floor, same hallway, dying of the same fucking insidious disease. And he was pretty much dealing with it alone, and I knew it was the end of the road for my dad but I was pretty much in denial about it. He didn't have anyone else to talk to and I didn't want to talk to anyone at all. I don't know, I guess we just understood each other. He didn't need me to fill him up with useless hopefulness and I didn't need a relationship out of him. We kept each other company, we fucked, and on the hardest day of my life, he was the one who showed up for a man that he'd hardly known longer than six months. There was maybe something real there for a minute, but there was something and someone else he wanted more and I can't really fault him for that." @buddywellls
