the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belonging, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.

Lmfao my friend and I were talking about this earlier and comparing the dudebros in the Red Dead fandom and the RE fandom, but it seems to be a common mindset. Cishet men just seem really ignorant towards a lot of shit when it comes to media literacy, and have the tendency to project onto these characters because they feel entitled to do so-- and while projecting onto characters isn't necessarily a bad thing overall since that's kinda what they're there for, but it's a bit different in this context. It really reminds me of this post:

I could write a whole essay on the prevalence of heteronormativity in media, especially in video games, but long story short because cishet people, and cishet men especially, see their identity as the default, that colors their entire perception of the narrative. They don't see anything beyond "lol he's obviously in love with her" because they think if a man is nice to a woman, that means he's in love with her or vice versa. When it comes to queercoding and queer relationships, it's always "why can't two people just be friends" but notice that when it's a man and a woman in question, then it's inherently seen as romantic or sexual and treated as fact rather than just a headcanon even though it's literally just a headcanon.
