Quinn pulled Rachel into a strong embrace before she could walk away. She needed her to know that this changed nothing between them. She wouldn’t let it. Rachel was the first real thing in her life worth holding onto in so long. Honestly Quinn never really thought she’d be able to fall in love again. Yet here she was, one year later. There was no way she was going to lose Rachel. “I’m sorry…I’ll make up for everything. At least let me follow you home.” she pleaded through hazel eyes. The last thing she wanted was for Rachel to feel threatened in any way. Quinn just felt a strange obligation to Nadia even if the lady was up to no good.
Rachel teared up the moment Quinn’s arms wrapped around her, being helpless was a new feeling to the tiny brunette, she always prided herself on being independent, steadfast, not letting anyone or any situation push her to far down, but this stung worse then a bee sting. Home. An hour ago in the throws of passion they had decided to make one together....and now, now she didn’t even know if that would happen. Trying to fight back tears, Rachel shook her head “That’s....that’s really not necessary, then who would follow you home to make sure you got back safely?” Trying hard to swallow the expanding lump in her throat, Rachel dared to make eye contact with the blonde beauty “...you...you know I love you right? I know we’re not the kind of couple who needs to say it to each other a hundred times a day but I do...I love you Quinn.”

Quinn couldn’t help but feel an inkling of sympathy for Nadia. She knew the feeling of losing someone who was technically still right there. Your loved-one who you spent your entire life loving and caring for…slowly fading away little by little. It was one of the most difficult experiences one could go through. And with it being Nadia’s father, Quinn could only imagine the pain she was dealing with. She hated her own father but she knew how close the older woman was with her own so it was only human of her to feel that pain…somewhat. As much as it might hurt Rachel, Quinn couldn’t hide that feeling. She needed to be honest. “Rachel I-I’m going to talk to her. I know you think I’m bat-shit crazy for doing so and she doesn’t deserve it. But in my heart I feel like I should be there for her.” It took a lot to get it out but if there was one thing Quinn had promised herself, it was that she would always be honest with Rachel. As difficult as it might be.
Rachel’s heart dropped straight into her stomach the moment the words left Quinn’s mouth. Nadia was always going to be there, always going to be between them, always the thorn in what otherwise would be a perfect relationship. “She’s no good Quinn....people like her....they take what they want and don’t care who they hurt or leave behind in the process” But that was all she’d say on the matter, if Quinn really wanted and needed to do this, nothing she said would be able to stop her. Sighing she ran her hands over her face, unsure of what to do or say. This had certainly put a damper on their anniversary. What more could she say? “...I think I’m going to go home, I have to be up early to meet with contractors....as it is I’m not going to get very much sleep.”

Nadia chuckled deeply, her perfectly white teeth were shown through her devious smile. “You don’t know a damn thing about me, and honestly I doubt you fully know Quinn either. There are things that she’s shared with me that she’ll never share with you-” Quinn quickly cut Nadia off mid-sentence. If looks could kill she’d be slain. “Stop. Both of you…” Quinn couldn’t hear herself think. Her anxiety was through the roof and she was feeling sick all at once. On one hand she had Rachel, her loving girlfriend and on the other was an old love affair with Nadia that honestly still made her head spin. Yes Nadia hurt her, that much was true. But Quinn refused to believe that there wasn’t real love there. She was a bitch, yes. And she left Quinn without looking so many years ago, but here she was again.Quinn couldn’t help but feel as though there was unfinished business between the two. As much as she wanted to hate her, she didn’t. But she would never take her side in front of Rachel. “Nadia, I will let you know when the paintings are complete. We’ll talk then, and however I can help with your father I try my best. Good night.” Quinn walked the older woman to the door and once she was out she stood with her back pressed firmly against the door.  “I’m sorry…” she sighed walking back over to Rachel. “This is not how I wanted this night to go.”
“For all that is good and holy in the Torah, what the hell is wrong with that woman?” Rachel spat, for the life of her she couldn’t understand why Quinn could ever defend such a cold and calculated bitch. There was nothing even remotely redeemable to Rachel about her. She’d met her twice now and that was two times to many. “Please tell me you had a temporary lapse of sanity while you were dating her because I....I just don’t see the appeal, I’m sorry, I just don’t.” Rachel knew she herself wasn’t any prize but compared to Nadia she was practically and the crown at the Kentucky derby. “I hope you don’t believe that shit about her father, she was clearly baiting you. Showing up past midnight, niche giet. She’s niche giet Quinn” The brunette hadn’t even realized that she’d started to pace, wringing her hands in frustration. “And who the hell is she to say I don’t know you, we’ve been together a year, of course I know you! I know you as well as you know me....ugh, I have no words, just no words. I have some choice expressions in Yiddish, but I’ll be nice and refrain.”

Quinn felt the pain…that much was real. But the theatrics, not so much. Nadia DeBois took pride in holding her head high. Quinn had never seen her like this which led her to believe she was definitely putting on a show. The old Quinn would’ve cracked right away. But this Quinn could see right through the smoke and mirrors. If she’d really been as concerned as she said she was why not just come to Quinn without all the added mess surrounding this? “Okay…okay..hey..hey!” She grabbed the older woman by her shoulders , pushing her out of her embrace. But before she could speak, Rachel did and honestly it was everything Quinn wanted to say as well. Nadia wiped her eyes and away went the tears and in came the resting bitch face. “Fuck you and your fake ass concern.” she snapped at Rachel. “For your information Alzheimer’s is a very difficult disease to deal with.” she brushed past Quinn in a full on rage now. “Do you know what it’s like to wake up and your father doesn’t even know who you are? Because that is what I go through every fucking day. So don’t you talk to me about handling things.” Quinn grabbed Nadia and yanked her back. “You’re out of line…I get that you’re hurting but you can’t talk to her like that. I won’t allow it.” Quinn spoke sternly. “Rachel is right, we can talk about this another time. I really feel for you…I do. But y-you need to leave.” Nadia scoffed looking at Rachel with an intense stare before giving her full undivided attention back to her ex-lover. “Fine I’ll go, but I’ll be back in the morning. And we will talk.”
“I might not know what it’s like to have a parent that’s sick, but I was there for Quinn when her grandfather, practically her father was suffering from it, so don’t fucking assume I don’t know what you’re going through. I just know enough about you to know that you’re not mourning the loss of your father, your just putting on the water works to find a way to weasel your way back into Quinn’s life!” Rachel had never been so bold in her life, but when it came to Quinn she felt like she had to protect her. Not that Quinn couldn’t take care of herself, but there was a sense of vulnerability and Rachel would be damned if Nadia took advantage of it. “I know all about you lady, I know the game you play, and I’ll be damned if you think you’re going to waltz in here with a sob story that might not even be true and try to take MY girlfriend down with you. You want to live a life of self-pity, go right fucking ahead, but you will not take Quinn down with you. Over my dead body!” She surprised herself as her tone got louder and louder, but she had to get her point across, she just had. “And you won’t be back in the morning, when Quinn’s done with your paintings she’ll let you know, but until then stay the fuck away. Just stay the fuck away.”

Quinn stood with her feet planted firmly on the ground as she mirrored her girlfriend’s stance. Arms crossed over her chest, trying not to fall from the weight of it all. No, she couldn’t just keep doing this. This was the same way she was all those years ago. She’d shoo Quinn off in public, but show up most nights with this same pitiful look on her face. It wasn’t fair. Why did Quinn always have to be there? Why did she even feel comfortable enough to keep coming back? The night of her grandfather’s funereal, she thought she’d made it very clear that she wanted nothing to with her. Clearly Nadia didn’t take no for an answer. Sighing, she looked back at Rachel who was pleading with her eyes. She gave her a softened expression that she hoped would assure her. Her head quickly darted back to Nadia. “She’s right…you can come back at a more respectable hour to view the work. Other than that, we don’t have anything to talk about. Goodnight Nadia.” Quinn attempted to close the door but Nadia’s very expensive heel stopped the door before it could close. “The paintings are for my father Quinn…h-he’s…not…well. H-he’s dying, and I don’t know how to fucking handle it!” she struggled to get any more words out as her tears began to choke her up and she fell into Quinn’s arms. A complete sobbing mess. Quinn’s eyes grew wide as she caught the older woman in her arms. She quickly turned back to her girlfriend, hazel eyes wide as she mouthed an inaudible “What…the…fuck?”
Rachel was so proud of Quinn in that moment, telling Nadia to go took unbelievable strength and Quinn had shone through with it. She’d put her foot down and stood up to her devious bitch of an ex. “Are you kidding me?” Rachel mumbled under her breath, catching Quinn’s glance as the brunette fell into her arms. Part of her wanted to ask ‘if he’s dying, what the hell does he need new paintings for?’ and the other wanted to be the kind and docile Rachel that Quinn knew and give them time to talk out whatever needed to be talked out. It was like having an angel and a devil on her shoulders. “With all due respect, this is not the time. I feel for your situation, but right now is not the appropriate time” Rachel swallowed hard at her words, if she could have gotten between the two and forced them apart then she would have. “You’re an adult, Nadia, and while I know handling things isn’t something you’re very good at doing, tonight is not the night to relish in it. It is mine and my girlfriends anniversary and you’re being incredibly rude pushing in like this for your own selfish gain. MY girlfriend asked you to go, and I’ll ask the same.”

Quinn was kind of surprised at herself for her immediate response but honestly it felt more than right. Why stall when there was no doubt in her mind? She hadn’t felt more sure of anything in such a long time. Being with Rachel was surprisingly easy for her. Even with all the quirks that came with being with Rachel Berry, she wouldn’t trade it for anything. There were no words that could describe the way Rachel made her feel…always. So she happily accepted without any hesitation. “I like that idea….not so much about Jesse but I’ll deal with him if I have to.” she playfully rolled her eyes. “Hopefully he lives up to your expectations.” Before the blonde could continue to ride Jesse’s ass there was a knock on the studio door. Quinn’s face twisted up in confusion. She definitely wasn’t expecting anyone and business hours were long gone.
“What the hell…” she mumbled as she gently climbed over Rachel, slipping back into her jeans and her white camisole. Ruffling her short blonde hair back, her heart sunk at the woman who stood before her. This could not be happening… “What the hell do you want…Nadia?” The older woman stood there dumbfounded, clearly she had been expecting a different reaction. “I’ve come to collect what’s mine.” A smug smile appeared on her lips as her eyes focused on Rachel in the background. “My paintings…are they ready?” Quinn was still confused as to why Nadia was here and then it finally clicked. “…You were the anonymous requester? I should’ve fucking known.” Quinn grunted out of frustration. “Don’t frown my love, it’ll leave you with wrinkles.” Nadia cupped the blonde’s cheek before inviting herself inside. She immediately made direct eye contact with Rachel. “Can we have the room? I really need to talk to Quinn…alone.” she darted daggers right into Rachel’s soul before turning back to Quinn with the most pleading look. “Please…” her voice wavered.
Rachel’s blood ran cold as she heard the only somewhat familiar voice. She’d only met the woman once, and she’d barely done that. The night of Quinn’s Grandfather’s funeral when she just much like now, had shown up crying at Quinn’s door, and here she was again. Nadia was slowly but surely becoming an Achilles heel in their relationship. Just when things were leveling out, going out a smooth place, becoming so perfect....she would waltz back in. Quick to dress herself, Rachel stood, arms cross as she listened to the brunette babble on to her girlfriend. No surprise the paintings had been commissioned by her, all the pieces of the puzzle were starting to come together. Clenching her jaw at every word Rachel stood her ground, waiting for Quinn to give her a silent plea of help to get the bitch out of there, but the look in Quinn’s eyes told her something else. “What...no...absolutely not” Rachel stuttered at the sudden intrusion of Nadia’s question. “No, it’s our anniversary. Tonight is our night and I’d appreciate it if you’d just leave. All business inquires can wait until morning.” It was bold, but not bitchy like it could have been. “Right....Quinn? The studio is closed.”

Quinn settled into her space on the couch, her arm wrapped firmly around her lover. Their bodies clad together gave her a sense of peace. A  peace that she’d longed for, for so long. The feeling was truly indescribable. The life that the blonde led before she met Rachel was much different than the one that she was creating for herself now. In a way she was so proud of herself. Proud of her progression. Cuddles were definitely not in the “Old Quinn’s” vocabulary, yet with Rachel it was second nature. It was true, Rachel sort of made her a better woman. She showed her that is was safe to love again. After Nadia, she never thought she’d fall in love again but she was so wrong. “Yes my sweet, your pallet is definitely different but I trust it.” she chuckled. Her lips pressed against the brunettes forehead as she continued to speak. Honestly, the proposition didn’t scare her at all. She spent most of her free time at Rachel’s place anyway. Unbeknownst to her she was practically living there and she was just starting to realize that now. “So I’ll move in…or we can find a place of our own. Whatever you want…I love the idea of waking up to this beautiful face every single morning. How could I complain?”
Rachel was just the slightest bit taken back when Quinn agreed right away. She didn’t doubt her girlfriends love or devotion, but moving in was a big decision and Quinn was a cautious person, she’d at least expected her to have to think about it a bit...but she wasn’t complaining. A huge smile spread across the brunettes face at the confirmation, without hesitation to leaned up to pull the blonde into a deep kiss, a sigh of satisfaction leaving her own lips. “I really don’t deserve to be this lucky in love” She had never seen herself as someone deserving of love. She was high maintenance, exhausting and without a doubt demanding. Anyone who could keep Rachel Berry at bay was either a genius or had nerves of steel. “But I’m so glad I am” She agreed with another peck to Quinn’s lips before slinking back down into her arms. “So many possibilities, which one is going to have you next to me in our bed the soonest every night?” She asked with a grin. “Why don’t we move you in as soon as possible, and then start looking for a new place? I’ll have Jesse put out his feelers right away for the perfect place and we’ll be living in sin in no time.” Not only was Jesse her best friend but he also was a real estate extrodinare, if anyone could find them the home or condo of their dreams, it’d be him.

“You know one of these days we’re going to plan a date and it’s actually going to turn out how we planned it and not with my food getting cold before we get a chance to eat it” Rachel told her lover with a laugh as she pressed another chocolate covered strawberry to the blondes mouth. Sure it wasn’t orthodox, but then again neither was their relationship. It was hard to believe they had made it to a year, a year of firsts, laughs, and at times a lot of confusion. They were in no way anywhere near ready to take the next step of marriage, but the longer things went on the more Rachel started to see that one day it could possibly. It was supposed to be a night of dinner and wine, then the bedroom, instead the two hadn’t lasted more then a half hour together before they were defiling every inch of Quinn’s studio space. Neither was complaining though. “But you know....I always did prefer desert before diner” She teased again as she slunk down to lay against Quinn, her head going to rest on her chest. Shutting her eyes she took a deep breath, taking in the blondes incredible scent. “We need more nights like this...and you know....if you moved in....maybe we could have them? More spontaneous nights like this....” It was bold, so bold, but when was a better time to be bold then right after passion?
