Final Blog
Man where do I start? This class was such a great experience for me. I’ve never messed with Graphic Design before. I want to thank Professor Nace for not giving up on me and teaching everything in an easy way. I made great friends in the class that also gave me tips and tricks.
For the projects, my favorite was the the Typehike posters the reason was because I got to really make something special. I love drawing landscapes and I knew I could incorporate a neat idea into the poster. My second favorite was the Zine. I loved this project because I got to use my own characters for the booklet. I love comics so getting to do a project with that was a blessing.
My least favorite project is was the Humans of New York project. I didn’t like because I didn’t get hardly in freedom in the project. Which was fine because I got to learn the program, but I would have still loved to have my own story.
Overall, I loved the class and I wish I could take more. Sadly, it’s time to move on and graduate and start the next chapter of my life.

3/29-3/31 Blog Post
For this week, I have start working on my booklet process. I have a finished one spread for week 1 and 2 that includes the classification assignment and the Type Specimen. Overall, I have had a very fun time so far with this project.
Reading:
I really resonated with the Type Chronology Booklet because it was so similar to our zine project. The thing that was different is that the students all shared one booklet together and each devoted themselves to one typeface. Very similar and very different from our own. Still found this very interesting.

Week of 3/22-3/26
Sorry for the late blog post, but I’ll get to the point. I crafted the zine project to completion and it was honestly so great. I loved how the project turned out for me because I was able to create something that represents me. For assignment 5, i started the first part of it. I created 4 pages of spreads each that had there own grid.
Reading:
What I found interesting about the reading was the static vs motion typography. I learned that when dealing static typography the focus is on the typeface and how the type is set. While when using motion the creator can get creative with the motion to set up a mood for the project and not focus much on the typeface. I also really enjoyed  Continuity. I like how the artist needs to aproach the project with a sense of scenary. What I mean is that they must create a believable movable space so that the text could almost feel alive.

3/14/22-3/17/22
This week I finished up my zine project. It was a very fun experience to create my very own booklet with all of my original art. I think my favorite part was creating the personification of the text with myself including in the piece. I created a piece of art that had myself interacting with my artwork.
Reading
The two things I found the most interesting about this reading was  Antialiasing and  Simplicity. I thought it was super interesting with anitaliasing how a simple blend could yeild greater results. There is the problem with the smaller the text the blurry it gets with antialiasing. However, I believe that Antialiasing strengths far outweigh the weaknesses.
For Simplicity, I found it interesting that keeping a font simple could yeild better results for translations. Since, the more crazy designs tend to not go as well through resizing and other adjustments I personally will try to keep my fonts simple.

2-28-22/3-4-22
I’ve made progress on my new project with the cover and other pages nearly complete. Since my type that I chose was Jack Armstrong which is heavily involved with comics and manga. Therefore I imported my own characters into the theme of my project and the results have been good so far.
Probably the most import thing I learned from the reading this week was the creation of the Linotype Machine. It was invented by Ottmar Mergenthaler in 1886 and was the leading invention of Typographic Technology. It could create a line of text and operated with a circulating matrix. I found it fascinating that all of this Typographic Tech was created so far back in the past. I find it fascinating.

Week 2/22/22 - 2/26/22
Sorry for the late blog post I wanted to do this yesterday, but our internet was down the whole day. Anyway that doesn’t matter what matters is my progress that was made during the week. I picked Jack Armstrong as my type. It is a traditional type used in comic books and manga. Therefore, I wanted my project to have a heavy theme with comics. I plan to include each of my characters in my pages. As for my picture I plan to use one of my comics and pose with it. Nothing to fancy so far, but the groundwork has been laid.

Week 2/14/22-2/18/22
I finished my poster and handed it in today. This project was so much fun. Adding a working QR code was quite the task because some that I added didn’t work. As for the AR aspect I haven’t gotten that fully working yet, but am making strides towards getting that done. The postcards have not been printed yet only because getting in the proper paper is on a delay.

Week 2-7-22/2-11-22
For this week I have pretty much finished my national park poster with a couple changes. I added clouds in the far background because I really felt like those added to the perspective of the piece. Furthermore, I added some additional shading to the letters so that they will pop more on the piece. A plan that we discussed in class today was enlarging the lettering. I think it’s a neat idea, but I will have to see if I can pull it off in Procreate. For the typespecimen I immediately began work on it after class. I don’t have much to show as of now the only thing that I have done is place the lettering in the places. Right now it’s still just a white page which with black text, but I will expand upon it in detail.

Week 4 2-3-22
Tumblr media
This week I worked on my poster for the national park I was assigned. So far I am really enjoying this project. Especially the text I really love how that it is turning out so far. The cracked text was the idea of my professor and I gotta say that is was a genius idea. Really loved it. I plan to add the rest of the text in this style as well.

Week 1 - 1/14/2022 Brice T
I unfortunately missed the first class due to Covid issues, but have read up on the syllabus. I have not started on the Typographic Classification assignments because my first week as been slammed with homework. It is on my list and I will be completing it over the weekend. Also SNOW might be coming and I cannot wait for it if it does happen.
I have fully recovered from COVID 19 and am ready to return to the classroom. I felt so left out the first week because of having to sit in my room all day. The world kind of stopped for me. I ready to return to a normal schedule.
