Reading Response 3: Time and Motion, Vanishing and Becoming

Our second reading dives deep into the concept of time and motion while also differentiating the Dimensions of time, Actual time, Implied time, and Recorded time. Indicating time in art is what most artists must learn in order to thrive within the profession. From painting on canvas or creating physically to learning the technological advantages of graphic design and film work, each artist must figure out each projects creative life span. Each concept can be shown in various art forms such as drawings, videos, photos, sculptures, graphic design, paintings, etc. By matching a category with each term this allowed us to understand which term belonged to what art form, and how it is conveyed throughout each piece.

Sean Cubits essay on the topic of Vanishing and Becoming through art was eye opening leaving me fascinated by his view of projection. The essay as a whole was not at all what I was expecting. I was under the impression Cubits was going to elaborate on the standard definition of projection and how it maybe shows through art but I was entirely wrong. Cubits explains how projection mostly takes place in real time and is quite similar to the concept of reflection. There are many pros to the idea of projection but in the essay, Cubits elaborates about how even though projection is the best way of communication, it can also give you a false idea of reality and can be misleading. Projections are typically visual which is what makes it so easy to believe and is easy when trying to persuade others into one idea. The concept of vanishing and becoming ties into projection because art itself is immortal. While our time here is limited, the art we create is infinite. We have the power to become rather than vanish completely and that is where the concept of projection comes into play. The more we become what we want others to perceive us as through our pieces we create, the more likely our true reality will start to become stretched or untrue. The concept of projection allows you to never disappear, but leave your own legacy that will always exist.

LOOP SERIES: 

For this series, I decided to go with the moments that made me happiest. Life is full of ups and downs. We as people always struggle to find the positives within our everyday lives whether it be from the stresses of work or personal life events. From dancing at one of the largest music festivals in the country, to gazing at the beautiful city lights on the auraria campus, I wanted this series to inspire my peers. It may seem like there is never enough time in the day to take time for yourself, but I promise there is. Find your peace and implement it into your everyday routine. Find the beauty in the little things and I promise the stresses of life will lessen the more you discover everything this world has to offer.
