hi i love ur art and was wondering about ur process and what brushes/programs u use? thanks ❤️

hi, thank you so much, i’m glad you like them. this is not really tutorial, cause i don’t know what i’m doing so i can’t teach boy but is me explaining how i color. it is not very detailed cause i’m no good at explaining. i hope you can still understand, i tried my best. also english is not my first language, please keep that in mind. 

here is how i prepare my panels, and make the white parts transparent, so in the document there’s only the lines, you know? i do it on photoshop. the coloring part itself i do on paint tool sai.

(1) base colors. is better if you create a layer for each thing, one for the base colours of the skin, another for the hair, the eyes, the clothes, and so on. things are a lot less messy that way. so yeah, i’ll trust you know how to place the base colors. (the tool i use is Pen.)

(2) shading (my favorite part!!). i use two colors to shade; one darker than the other and they’re both shades of pink. i create a new layer and clip it to the skin one (you can learn how to clip a layer here) and set the mode to multiply. i use the marker tool, this is the configuration:

(yes my say is not in english but you can see where things go)

the important part is to turn on the fringe effect in the layer on. here’s how to do it. i use the marker in a really big size and shade everywhere that would be slightly darker, you gotta know your light source here, on mine the light is above Hinata so i shade accordingly.

I know that is a little creepy but you can see where i placed the first shading here.

Anyway then i blend it using the Water Tool, with the Leaves brush form.

I create another layer, mode multiply as well, fringe option on and use my darker shade of pink. I color the darkest parts such as under the neck, close to the hairline, under the nose, the details. This time i’m more precise since i won’t be blending the shade too much and the color will look a lot darker and harsher.

(3) the next layers are: blush (fringe effect on, multiply layer mode, marker) i use a vibrant pink, red, peach or orange, another shading layer but with a lilac color (fringe effect on, layer mode normal, marker), the last shading layer using a grey color, very little of this just in some details (fringe effect on, i use the pen to do this), last layer (usually) is highlights, the top of the cheek, tip of the nose, center of the lips, the jaw (i don’t use the fringe effect for this and i use the pen).

so yeah with this i think you can figure out how to color the clothes and hair and the rest. (side note: i use the pen to color the darkest shade when it comes to hair and clothes). it is the same process as a base, the colorful parts/lines i just ad randomly.

(4) to color the lines you clip a layer on the line art layer. and just color on top of it no need for different layer modes or anything since you made the white parts transparent. again i advise different layers for different things.

i hope you could understand even 50% of what i tried to say ♥

hey can I ask a question about how you clean caps? is the white actually white or just transparent? I usually try to erase everything but the black lines but Wow Am I Struggling and it ends up looking kinda patchy and takes ages. is there a shortcut or is it just practice??

the white is transparent. i erase it on photoshop. the way i do i load the image and then i press ctrl+alt+2 and then delete and deselect. then i press ctrl+u and put the Lightness to -100 like this:

if you don’t fix that and let it normal the lines are too light:

and then i just save it in psd and go color it on sai. i hope that’s what you were asking?
