Confessions Series - Part 1: Overheard [Genshin Impact Male Characters]

Note: Welp I had the itch to write again so here I am. Though sleep deprived because baby keeps waking up every 3 hours to feed… I wanted to do this haha. Based on @soulprompts “I love you” prompts. What other character should I do?

Warnings: haven’t written in a while please excuse and tell me about pronoun slips, I’m sleep deprived, not proofread, some are just concepts of liking someone, having a crush on them, while some are full blown love confessions. SOME ARE ANGSTY, chose only the male characters I wanted to write for instead of forcing myself to do all of them.

Characters: Aether, Albedo, Alhaitham, Ayato, Cyno, Dainsleif, Diluc, Itto, Kaeya, Scaramouche, Xiao, gn!reader  

Scenario: Talking to a friend about how you feel about him. Unbeknownst to you, he was listening, hidden round the corner. What does he do?

“He’s sweet,” You simply answer when asked what you like about Aether. “I mean, he’s a simple guy. He’s not a mystery, it’s not hard to read him nor to get along with him. I guess that’s one of the reasons why a lot of people like him.”

You’re rendered speechless by the statement for a second, tripping over your first words, “Well–I mean–” and as if realizing you’re making a fool of yourself by speaking in garbles, you recover. “Yeah, I guess…” You don’t know why you admit to it, but it’s not like your friend didn’t already know.

What he does:

Is tempted to immediately walk up to you and reconfirm the conversation.

Stops himself for a minute and replays the whole conversation in his head, probably once, twice and maybe a third time.

Second guesses himself, but when he finally goes through all possible options, he realizes there’s no mistaking the overheard confession.

All the while, Paimon is nagging him to go talk to you. “You didn’t hear wrong! Stop thinking too much, hurry and go!” Ends up being pushed out into the open by his flying companion.

“Erm…Ahem” he coughs into his fist. “I…didn’t mean to eavesdrop…Y/N, sorry, but… can we continue this conversation somewhere else? Somewhere…a little more private?” and the shy smile he gives you is a tell tale sign that he had most likely felt the same.

Embarrassed, you nodded curtly before briskly walking to his side, stopping just enough behind him to keep distance between you and the horse. "This is Penny. Say hello."

"H-Hello," you mumbled but did as requested.

Kaeya laughed, grabbing your hand so fast you had no chance to react, "Not like that," smoothly, he placed your hand on Penny's nose and let his rest over top to keep it there, "Like this. Now go on, try again," he said, eyeing you as if to make sure you did it properly this time.

You looked at him then back at Penny, then back to Kaeya who gave you a reassuring nod. Swallowing, you focused your attention on Penny and the feeling of her under your hand, "Hello, Penny," you greeted and she replied with a small bob of her head. She shifted her weight and you heard the sound of her hooves on the ground, felt the sharp shake of her body as it reverberated through her. You'd only ever seen horses from a distance - to be this close to one - it was more intense than you thought it would be. "Hello," you greeted again as your hand moved to the side of her head so you could pet her.

"Now that's more like it," Kaeya hummed. You chuckled at his comment and hoped your face didn't give away how aware you were to his proximity. If he wanted, he could easily place his hand against your back, or lean in and brush his nose against your cheek. Though he wouldn't do that ... right? You shook your head at the thought.

"So ..." you cleared your throat and let your hand wander to the other side of Penny's face, "when can I ride her?"

Kaeya smirked, crossing his arms, "Next week."

"What!?" You shouted and made Penny retreat from your touch. Sighing, you put up your hands and mouthed an apology as if she could understand you, "What do you mean next week?" you inquired, voice calmer even if your facial expressions weren't.

"There's still a lot to learn. It would be irresponsible to allow you to ride without learning the proper techniques, and far more paperwork," he ended with a sigh, placing a hand on his hip and shaking his head at the thought.

You were disappointed but understood where he was coming from. "Alright ... yeah," there was a sadness in your tone that brought Penny back to your side. Her head bobbed down toward your face and made you smile even in your disappointment.

"Now don't get too upset."

"I know, I'm not ..." Kaeya knew you were lying, even the horse flies knew you were lying, you just hoped they'd let you live in that lie for a moment longer.

"You know," Kaeya began as he took a step toward you, "it's not all bad."

"Why?"

He smirked and it was hard not to shy away from the sharp point of his lip as it rose up his cheek, but you stood your ground, kinda, "This means we get to spend every day together."

Your face felt hot so you turned away and focused on Penny whose ears were twitching and eyes were taking it all in, "... y-yeah ..."

"There's a lot to learn you know," he continued as he moved behind you. You went stiff at the feeling of his fingers on your hips, you tried to breath, tried to relax but he was so close and you were overheating. "We'll have to take our time ..." It felt like his face was inches from your ear, his breath spread across your cheek - it was more than you could take.

Suddenly, Penny cried out and pushed her head near the both of you, forcing you to both to step aside or be hit by her boney face. You were relieved by her actions, taking in a sharp breath when you were in your own bubble again. "I um - I just remembered I needed to --" you stumbled, both over your words and the slick straws of hay at your feet as you backpedaled toward the door. "I'll see you tomorrow then?" He nodded and you returned the gesture before turning on your heels and making your way out of the stables.

Kaeya watched you leave, his imagination running wild at the expressions you were making, at the way you cupped your cheeks as you turned to head back down the path. His heart was pounding but he stayed calm - or as calm as he could. Penny turned toward him and he held her face with his right palm and patted her nose with the other. "We'll take all the time we need," he repeated with a smile and Penny bumped into him as if to remind him to have - even an ounce - of restraint.
