The New Data Access Plan From Facebook
The world revolves around the web right now. Access to the Internet is now a necessity and no longer the luxury that it once was a decade ago. Everyone just wants to be online to do all sorts of stuff, whether for work or leisure, there are simply a lot of things to do and there is no such thing as boredom anymore. Everybody is addicted to social networking sites and they share all sorts of information to their friends or even on public mode whether it be personal data or photos or videos of important milestones in their lives. It is a great way to stay connected with people who mean the most to them or even reconnect with people from their past such as childhood friends and classmates but it can also be a danger as you are opening up too much of yourself to total strangers especially if you haven’t thought about securing your account like making it private or restricting other people’s access to your account.
When using a platform that does not sell anything but gets richer and richer by the minute, it makes you wonder just what the product here is. Pretty sure by now many have already deduced that it is the users that are actually what they are selling to third-party advertisers. As such, we have seen various changes and policies implemented over the years up to the point right now where new changes are still being rolled out allowing its users to have more control over their accounts and the data they share to others. You can now customize your data sharing options and many have started to breathe a sigh of relief as they feel safer now that not everyone can check out what they are doing with their lives.
Facebook said Wednesday that it believes most of its users who had a specific search function enabled have had their profile data scraped by third parties.
"We've seen some scraping," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on a call with reporters. "I would assume if you had that setting turned on that someone at some point has access to your public information in some way," he said.
The setting Zuckerberg referred to is one where users let other users search for them by e-mail address or phone number instead of by name.
(Via: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/04/facebook-most-people-could-have-had-their-public-profile-scraped.html)
Sounds familiar, right? Many of you have probably searched up people you were curious about and stalked them for quite a while too without them knowing about it at all. It is fine if you really are just curious and what to satiate your curiosity without really acting on it but it is an entirely different story among cybercriminals who will find lots of use for all the free data they can gather on SNS platforms like Facebook that now boasts of billions of users the world over.
Facebook will implement nine changes, which will allow users to set privacy levels and limit automatic data sharing. The changes will affect the Events API, Groups API, Pages API, Facebook Login, Instagram Platform API, Search and Account Recovery, Call and Text History, Data Providers and Partner Categories, and App Controls.
The Events API no longer will allow apps to access the guest list or posts on the event wall. Only Facebook-approved apps that agree to strict requirements will be allowed to connect with the Events API.
The Pages API will no longer allow apps to read posts or comments from any page, and all future app access will have to be approved by Facebook.
Facebook also has made big changes to the login. It will require approval of all apps that request access to information such as check-ins, likes, photos, videos, events and groups.
(Via: https://www.technewsworld.com/story/85256.html)
With all these changes happening left and right and softwares getting upgraded, it is also but a must that your hardware is also up to par. If there is a need for performance is significantly being affected in a negative light because your computer is old and not built with the parts that can support more recent computing advancements, you may have to consider upgrading your PC or laptop, if not, you’d often experience lagging when video chatting with someone on Facebook or some other video messaging site. You may also experience other problems that may be brought about by your activity on the web like contacting malware when you visit untrusted sites (which is one of the reasons why Facebook is beefing up cybersecurity precautions) that will prompt a technical emergency and a quick trip to the recovery service or to the PC shop for a shiny new gadget if the problem is beyond repair.

More Funds For Mental Health
Society focuses too much on physical health and no one’s blaming them. We need to take care of our bodies first if we want to achieve more in life. It is but a must because we can only count on ourselves to do everything for us, right? However, a person has different aspects that need to be considered too not only what’s physiologic and visible to the naked eye especially that they can also make or break a person. Mental health is one of those aspects. Total health care is necessary, frankly. When neglected, a person may start manifesting physical symptoms of the mental demons that have been silently bothering them unbeknownst to others. A lot of people are actually suffering from mental disorders because they already failed to cope with the many challenges in life while still in denial of their condition.
If you look at the state of the world lately, you can deduce that a big chunk of the violent issues we are facing is largely because of mental health issues that remain unaddressed even in the most sophisticated of societies. Take the US for example, a first-world nation that is the undisputed leader in the world for just about everything is suffering from frequent bouts of issues like gun violence at schools that leaves innocent people injured or dead often by a student perpetrator. What could possibly drive these youngsters to such extremes is more likely because of mental problems they no longer know how to cope with. Even in workplaces now, there is that random news of violence that shouldn’t have reached that point if the person knew how to seek help before they resort to more drastic and deadly decisions.
Calls for action and change typically follow each mass shooting, but the voices advocating for increased mental health services are becoming almost as loud and persistent as those seeking gun reform.
Leaders of area nonprofit mental health organizations say they are cautiously optimistic about increased funding coming their way after facing persistent cuts to their budgets.
“I’m hopeful that these tragic events will shine a light on a system that’s underfunded,” said Scott Gilman, executive director of Network 180, the community mental health authority for Kent County. “This issue, along with opioid crisis, uses the same bucket of money. We’re flooded with people who need treatment for opioids and people who are suicidal. While it’s tragic, it’s great if it can bring attention to a national problem.”
(Via: https://mibiz.com/news/nonprofit-business/item/25701-gun-violence-puts-spotlight-on-underfunded-mental-health-organizations)
Unfortunately, a lot of people do not have access to proper mental health care because we all know it is expensive. They can barely meet their physiologic needs and would only go to the hospital if the circumstances are dire so they likely won’t spend their hard-earned money on things they consider unnecessary such as a session with their shrink or psychiatrist. Even the most brilliant of people suffer from anxiety attacks and depression regardless of their prior knowledge about these conditions since they are just as vulnerable as the rest of us when human emotions are involved. What the world needs to realize is that mental health is just as vital as physiologic health and that it should be given appropriate funding, so those who need it can have access to it whenever the situation arises.
The man who drove a camper van into a group of people sitting outside a restaurant in the German city of Muenster on Saturday acted alone and appears to have had mental health problems, the regional interior minister said on Sunday.
The man killed two people when he ploughed the vehicle into people seated at tables outside the Grosser Kiepenkerl eatery, a popular destination for tourists in the old town of the university city in western Germany. He then shot himself dead.
(Via: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-crash/muenster-attacker-was-lone-german-with-mental-health-problems-minister-idUSKBN1HE0IQ)
Do we still want to see headlines like this one that dampens the mood and makes people wonder if all hope in humanity is indeed gone? No matter how careful you are if fate permits, you can die in a snap from road rage or a random shooting in a public place where you, unfortunately, happen to be in at that moment because the culprit lost all hope and is now unable to process sane and rational thoughts. The thing is that these tragedies can be prevented. We don’t have to reiterate it over and over. Wherever you are in the world, you can see news of all sorts of violence so unspeakable now and then that it should be a wake-up call to you to take mental health seriously and give it the attention it needs before your insanity gets the best of you.

New Trends In Web Design
Change is constant and we all have to learn to keep moving forward if we don’t want to be left behind. It’s simply the mantra we all must observe and adopt in our lives as we continue to embrace more modernity and tech advances that we only used to dream of in the past. Seeing how much the World Wide Web has exploded over more recent years, it is already a must to educate yourself about the way the web works since companies as well take their businesses online as most people are there all the time. First and foremost, you need to have your own website because it is the virtual gateway to everything that your business has to offer. Web design allows individuals, business, and organizations to capture the interest of the public in an ever-growing digital world. You have to stand out and have all the elements needed to make your website accessible and user-friendly at the same time.
You also have to be on your toes all the time as nothing stays the way it is. Even if your website is the top of its class today, it is no assurance that it would still be effective in communicating to the public and allowing them to make the most of newer and more interactive features being rolled out today. Technology is always improving, so your website should be designed in a way that people would enjoy their time browsing around it or that transactions can easily be finished or be accessed o mobile devices, which is the favorite gadget of the majority today. You have to take all these factors into consideration as almost all businesses, big and small, have migrated to the web and competes for the attention of the public.
One of the most important realizations when working in the digital field is that you can never stop learning. Digital (as a concept) is in a constant state of evolution, with new techniques and technologies emerging almost daily. The result is that you must always be asking yourself “what should I learn next?”
At this very moment, this question is more relevant than ever. We are seeing a fundamental shift in the sector, especially for those of us who run web design businesses.
Why Are Things Changing?
Those who have traditionally operated at the bottom end of the market, such as those working with mom-and-pop businesses, are feeling the pressure. Many entrepreneurs who run small companies are beginning to ask themselves why they need a web designer at all. Especially with out-the-box services, such as Squarespace and Wix, allow them to build their websites.
(Via: http://mediatemple.net/blog/tips/learn-next-web-design-business-owner-five-recommendations/)
Since the market has now become so overcrowded, you need to set yourself or your business apart from the rest. Highlight what makes you unique or what you have to offer that others can’t give or match. Use original graphics that is exclusive to your business and create a brand and logo for better name recall. And with this new look and upgraded web game, tailor suit your marketing program to match your online presence and grow your sales in no time. Give what your audience wants and it won’t be long when your follower count will grow and exceed everyone’s expectations.
The importance of social media in internet marketing
Google might not like this, but over the years, the traffic generated by social media has slowly crept up to a point where today, social media generated traffic is the top source of all website referral traffic. Of course, this trend largely depends on the nature of the website but to ignore the potential of social media in any internet marketing campaign would be a mistake.
Lastly, you will have to ensure that your website speed is up there with the requirements of the search engines. Slow sites, pages that take a long time to appear are counter-indicative of the search engine good practices recommendations and will only serve to cause your visitor to leave your site as fast as they got in.
(Via: https://www.besttechie.com/web-design-seo-ecommerce-business/)
It is already a given that you’d let the experts take care of all these web design talks and work because for algorithms are evolving and they are aware of all these changes and new requirements your website will need to conquer the web. These web professionals e.g. web designers and SEO specialists can work wonders on your business and help you meet your goals while sticking to your budget and promoting the image you want to project in the cyber world. You can easily connect your website to your various social networking platforms for greater ease and access to the public who are now hooked to SNS and the web. You’ll be surprised how much your business can benefit from Internet marketing without using as many resources as you did in the past as long as you know how to exploit technology to your advantage.

Collagen For Your Skin: Does It Make Any Difference?
They say that beauty is only skin deep. It is the reason why individuals who value their physical appearance so much spend thousands on luxurious skincare products that promise to defy aging and even try riskier surgical procedures to enhance a certain feature or erase any proof of their age ever showing on their skin. Other times, they go to great lengths to get rid of existing skin flaws and blemishes that mess with their confidence and has a great impact on their looks like the presence of acne or skin tags. Those who can’t afford to pay a pro safely remove their skin tags resort to the use of over-the-counter remedies and medications that can supposedly erase skin tags from your skin and leave no trace of it at all.
If your problem, though, isn’t related to skin tags at all but just giving in to your vanity and goals of staying as youthful looking for as long as you can, you are probably the first to try any new trend that comes out in the market one of which is collagen. The human body is actually rich in collagen as it is the building blocks of healthy hair, nails, and bones. The sad reality is that collagen production in the body goes down as we age and it is the premise to the rising trend of collagen supplementation nowadays. It is no longer uncommon to see “collagen peptides” as ingredients of various skin care supplements and products to give you back your fresh and youthful glow and allow you to age gracefully despite the daily stresses in life.
Often collagen products on the market, like skin serums and supplements, are marketed as containing "collagen peptides." In biology, "peptides" is a term that simply refers to short chains of amino acids. All collagen is a protein made up of amino acids: glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, and arginine, all of which help our bodies remain in good health. In fact, healthy muscle growth and joint health, as well as an overall glow, are often attributed to the unparalleled amount of amino acids in collagen. Collagen is secreted by cells, chiefly by connective tissue cells.
Fun fact: There are more than a dozen types of collagen, which are composed of different peptides and exhibit a range of structures and functions. For instance, there are specific types of collagen responsible for forming your skin and cartilage. Unfortunately, there has been minimal research on the various types and not many studies at all that pinpoint one as the most beneficial—as far as we know, they're all crucial.
(Via: https://www.mindbodygreen.com/articles/collagen-peptides-gut-healing-and-skin-benefits)
If you don’t have the cash to burn and are afraid of going under the knife, collagen-rich products offer an efficient, non-invasive, and more cost-effective solutions to defying aging and staying young-looking. Say goodbye to fine lines and wrinkles because they will be non-issues in your life from now on because you can easily form new and healthier cells that will replace dead skin cells that makes you look older than you really are. Products with collagen are priced a little higher than your usual skincare regimen and supplement but it is worth every penny you pay for it.
Boost Your Collagen Absorption
Certain nutrients can kick-start the body's production of natural collagen and maximize the effects of the collagen you get from foods or supplements. Dr. Moyad calls out three vital factors: vitamin C and iron, which are both essential for collagen production, and omega-3 fatty acids, which protect the body's collagen stores from damage. You can easily get them from foods like bell peppers, broccoli, and citrus (for vitamin C); shellfish, red meat, and dark leafy greens (iron); and salmon, mackerel, and other oily fish (omega-3s).
Turn to Collagen Supplements
If you don't eat much (or any) meat, you may want to consider collagen powder, protein, or—if you're aiming for a higher dosage—pills, Dr. Moyad says. Look for a supplement that's certified by a third-party quality-testing company, like NSF International or United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Start adding it to your diet slowly: First, take 1,000 milligrams for two to three weeks. If you notice perks—your joints feel better or you fall asleep faster—stick to that dosage. But if you don't see any effects, go ahead and increase your intake in increments of 1,000 milligrams until you get results or hit 15,000 milligrams, whichever comes first, Dr. Moyad says. (Use collagen powder in this kiwi coconut smoothie bowl.)
(Via: https://www.shape.com/healthy-eating/diet-tips/guide-to-collagen-supplements-benefits)
It may be one of the hottest craze to hit the beauty scene as of late but you do not know is that you can get collagen from natural plant/food sources. Most fatty fish that are already rich in omega-3 is also a great source for collagen aside from red meat, shellfish, and most dark leafy veggies. You don’t really have to spend a lot if you know just where to look especially if money (or better yet the lack of it) is a major issue in your life. Make sure you up your intake of Vitamin C as well that is vital in the collagen production process. If you want to take the easy way out and have the cash to burn, collagen supplements work just as well. The choice is up to you. At least now you have more ways to care for your looks without all the hassle.

Sleeping Needs Differ For Everyone
People often complain of not getting enough sleep despite the many modern contrivances that are supposed to make life easier and better. The funny irony in modern life is that the brains of this generation and that of previous years developed technologies that saved us from doing as much manual labor as we can yet we still end up feeling tired and sleepless at the end of the day. We lose more sleep now with the myriad of devices and the popularity of the web that keeps us busy every minute of the day we can’t seem to get the relief we need from sleep especially the young ones who are easily tempted. Those who realize this contrasting reality attempt to overcome sleep deprivation and takes lots of measures to get their lost sleep back. As a result, they sleep far longer than they should be but does that really solve their problem?
It’s interesting to note that getting more than the recommended snooze does not really solve your problem because it is the quality of your sleep that matters the most. Some spend hundreds to thousands in sleep accessories and technologies that can help them lull to sleep each night without fail especially if they constantly suffer from sleeplessness like those individuals diagnosed with sleep disorders such as sleep apnea. Getting a good night’s sleep is virtually impossible as the breathing pauses won’t let you really get to the state of deep sleep and the incessant snoring is not only such a bother to you but to those around you. But technology has done them good by providing solutions to sleep apnea allowing them to sleep better at night and perhaps at times even oversleep too.
Some people seemingly can’t get enough z’s. They might sleep for hours on end and still feel exhausted while others around them are waking up refreshed.
Getting extended hours of shut-eye seems like a gift rather than a curse, but there are some caveats. Sleeping in on a Saturday morning is an indulgence. Regularly sleeping 10 or more hours, however, may be an indication of something serious, especially if you’re still in desperate need of a midday nap.
“Most adults need seven to eight and a half hours of sleep,” Ronald Chervin, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Michigan, told HuffPost. “But if someone is sleeping unusually large amounts and still feels unrefreshed, that would be a reason to see a sleep physician.”
(Via: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/why-do-some-people-need-more-sleep-than-others_us_5aafb7fce4b0337adf85b072)
We all have unique sleeping needs. Some need more while others make do with less. There are people who can’t fully function if they weren’t able to sleep for at least eight hours the night prior and there are those who are fine even if they sleep far less than that. Only you really know your body and can tell what your sleeping needs are. If there is really a need for you to consult a sleep specialist to overcome sleeping problems, do not hesitate because your body is the only thing you have that will last you a lifetime. If you scrimp on your health and not address urgent issues, you’ll end up losing more sleep and not have the energy you need to go about your day in the best shape you can be.
Research shows we’re finally listening to our physicians when they tell us to get a good night’s sleep. Americans are getting, on average, about 18 minutes more per weeknight, compared to 13 years ago. People also slept more on weekends, though they only gained an additional 50 seconds of sleep per weekend night per year – a total gain of about 11 minutes.
“Quality sleep helps us perform better, boosting our creativity and productivity,” said Pollachi Selvakumarraj, MD, physician at CHI St. Joseph Health Internal Medicine and Primary Care Navasota. “While on average, Americans get more than eight hours of sleep on weeknights and more on weekends, sleep length varies widely.”
The study, published in the journal Sleep, relied on data from more than 180,000 people who participated in the American Time Use Survey, a questionnaire conducted by the Census Bureau about the activities that comprise each respondent’s day. It’s important to take steps toward getting quality sleep.
(Via: http://www.navasotaexaminer.com/news/article_d6ae2930-3854-11e8-b476-77443270bd8a.html)
Your sleep requirements may also be genetic in nature. You may be predisposed to like sleep the most and others not so but any changes or abnormalities in your sleeping patterns may already be a medical issue that should be addressed by a trained professional. Other times, your worries get the best of you and you end up tossing and turning until the wee hours of the morning and it will go on for as long as you get your issues resolved. It truly is a big challenge to overcome this sleep dilemma and you often have to figure out what works best for you because after all, to each his own. We all have unique sleeping needs and it constantly changes too, so you should always be on your toes to safeguard your health and well-being because no one will do it for you.

Undermining Children’s Mental Health
Adults today can still remember what it was like to be young kids even if it is just but a distant memory. It is a fun and enjoyable experience especially that you have little worries and only thought about playing the entire time. However, not all kids are fortunate enough to enjoy that carefree and sheltered life. Many children today are exposed to violence or aren’t given enough attention or needs are unmet because some parents are not just ready for this added responsibility they have so willingly made. Even back then, there were already children who suffered from poor mental health although it wasn’t given much attention nor hyped up because the technology back then was limited and people weren’t as connected.
1 in 10 children suffers from mental health issues. It can be attributed to simply anxiety yet it can lead to something more serious like depression or any behavioral or conduct disorder. Most children do not receive treatment mainly because it is often overlooked by their parents or guardians and these youngsters fail to verbalize their feelings enough to raise the alarm bells that warrant medical attention. For most people, physical health comes first but what many fail to realize is that mental worries can transform into physical symptoms as well and can take a toll on anyone’s health.
Nearly half of American children have faced at least one traumatic experience, such as the death of a parent, witnessing a violent crime or living with someone who is suicidal or abuses drugs or alcohol, new research reveals.
These events can trigger high levels of stress, which can have serious and lasting effects on children's development, heath and overall well-being, according to researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
They noted, however, that effective parenting, supportive neighbors, involved schools and teaching kids how to be resilient can all help reduce these harmful effects.
"Every child deserves a healthy start," said Richard Besser, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which funded the research. "A loving home, a good school, a safe neighborhood -- these things are the foundation for a long and happy life, yet too many children don't have them."
(Via: https://www.webmd.com/children/news/20171024/trauma-takes-a-toll-on-half-of-us-kids#1)
Children aren’t matured enough to help them better handle adversities or understand that they should not always be defined by the unfortunate circumstances they are in. These traumatic experiences can scar a child for life and have a big impact on the way they grow up or mess up their perspectives on life. As they enter their teens, they began to channel their negative thoughts and feelings on even more destructive interests like vices such as smoking, alcohol, and drugs. No child is spared when it comes to violence regardless of race, religion, or status in life and that what’s even more disconcerting. Imagine having millions of kids suffer in silence, feeling hopeless all the time and bottling up negative emotions over the years.
More than 200 Galway children with mental health problems have waited over a year for an appointment with local psychology services.  The lengthy waiting lists exist, despite €17.6 million of mental health funding earmarked for Galway and Roscommon over three years, having been returned unspent to central government.
The long waiting lists in Galway, and some other counties, has prompted Fianna Fáil to claim that there is “effectively an Eircode lottery” in primary care psychological services in this country.
The Galway figure – 208 children aged five to 17 waiting over a year – represents 10% of the 2,000 children who are on waiting lists psychology services.
The wait of more than a year is just for an initial appointment to assess what supports they require.
(Via: http://connachttribune.ie/children-wait-year-mental-health-referral-832/)
Here is the bigger problem now. For those who finally have the courage to speak and seek help, they actually have to wait for at least an entire year before they can even secure a consultation. It may sound incredulous but that is the reality faced by many young and mentally-troubled children nowadays. The fund is there but it’s the management that takes full responsibility for this backlog that may be costly to the health and lives of children who should live a happy and carefree childhood instead.
It is also happening in different parts of the globe. What’s worse is that many nations actually do not have the money needed to fund basic healthcare services needed by the youngest vulnerable group on the planet that can shape the way their lives are taking. If children are the future of this planet, our future won’t be a bright one if we don’t get to the bottom of these issues while we still can and they don’t grow up to be delinquents who are full of hate and angst.

Art For A Cause
Most people today do not take art seriously thinking that it is only done by people who have nothing better to do in life and have the luxury to waste time by indulging in interests and past times that aren't globally relevant such as painting. Nobody takes a painter seriously. Well, most do but there are a few who understands the cultural (and economic) value of paintings to the world at large. If you look at our history closely, you’d learn (and realize) that paintings depict the state of the times. From ancient primitive life to today's modern world, we learn a lot of things about life and the state of the planet from these paintings and other artworks. It can be any of those scribbles and not-at-all fancy cave paintings to the ones found in most museums and art galleries today, you can easily tell how people go about their day-to-day by simply looking at painted visuals of how the painters see the world around them.
If people aren’t just simply judgmental and learn to see how important the art is in shaping and preserving our history, maybe we’d be able to give it the attention and adoration it needs. We are not only seeing an artist’s talent at work here but through the materials and method used, the audience can have a better understanding of when and how the art was made. Some philanthropists see just how powerful the arts can be, which is why they support various art causes that can make a positive difference in the world.
A series of arts events and related activities in Troy this weekend will celebrate feminism and raise funds for Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood. Called Nasty Women of the North, it is sponsored by the Feminist Art Project of Upstate NY. All events are free and open to the public. The schedule:
Friday
5 to 9 p.m., Collar Works gallery, 621 River St.: Nasty Women of the North Exhibition + Art Auction. Featuring local and international artists overseen by Angel Bellaran, curator for the original Nasty Women show in New York City. Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood team will be on site, and 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the agency. All artwork is priced between $25 and $100. Also, "Feminist Love Letters," a project developed by social engagement artist Melissa Sarris.
(Via: http://www.timesunion.com/entertainment/article/Nasty-arts-events-to-aid-Planned-Parenthood-12309634.php)
By going to these events you not only support the artists but get to appreciate just what real talent is all about. Some of the artists can even incorporate the message they want to convey to the people through the very art they make. Indeed, pictures really say a thousand words. Imagine having this much impact and influence on others just like more popular art pieces like the Mona Lisa, the Last Supper, etc.
Greywood Arts received both Creative Ireland funding and a Cork County Council Creative Communities grant. The result is a programme called Creative Killeagh: a series of open-access arts workshops, performances, and events starting at Halloween and culminating in next year’s May celebration.
Jessica was determined to use the funding for creative projects that will engage the entire community. How has the village responded to their presence so far? “There are a few families that come to everything we do,” Jessica says.
“Other people are just happy to see the house being taken care of and not falling into disrepair. Overall, there’s an educational component that will take more time to establish. And a lot of that is about just getting people to cross the threshold.”
(Via: http://www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/artsfilmtv/using-the-arts-to-revive-old-traditions-in-east-cork-461868.html)
Sometimes, an artistic initiative can be used to unite a community. It can create some sort of a buzz that can get people excited and actually willing to spend their time and energy into artsy projects that not only entertain them but support a rather important cause that can have a big impact on everyone. Until today, the arts continue to define what our society is like and it can hopefully tell the future generations how we have been living all along and help them learn from our mistakes. The arts are enduring, for that we can be sure of as we see ancient artworks having a big impact on our lives today and most unlikely until the future generations.

Charities No Longer Seen As A Saving Grace
In times of adversity and disaster, people can’t always rely on themselves to provide for their needs. When a tragedy is so disastrous, the government often has to intervene and take charge and even third-parties like charitable groups and institutions pitch in to provide support. Many of these charities have evolved to become household names since they are usually the first to respond to disasters like the Red Cross but most are actually low-key and support civic groups and medical causes. For years, the citizens have looked up to them because they have saved many individuals and even communities from countless tragedies and helped them start anew and rebuild their lives.
However, there are many stories coming out now about the luxuries life led by the people who run these charitable organizations. When you are running a non-profit organization and most, if not all, of the money coming in, is coming from the generosity of others, then why do these people spend it as if it is theirs and not directly give this money to those who are in dire need of help. You don’t even have to look far to see poverty and suffering because they are present in every community even in a progressive nation like the United States. More and more people, especially the donors, are realizing how affluent the lifestyle is of these people running popular charities that they should be double-checked to see if the money given to them is spent as it should: for the poor and the needy.
The general public are distrustful of charities and feel salaries in the sector are too high, new research indicates.
A survey of 1,000 people completed as part of the Charities 2037 report found that trust in charities among the sample was less than a third, while over 80 per cent of respondents felt charities need to be more transparent in their financial affairs.
The findings, which were compiled by Ámarach Research on behalf of the Charities Institute Ireland (CII), point to there being “no evidence of a trust recovery” in charities following a succession of pay-related scandals over recent years.
Exactly 60 per cent of those surveyed either strongly agreed or slightly agreed with the statement “wages in the charity sector are too high”.
(Via: https://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/people-don-t-trust-charities-and-feel-salaries-are-too-high-1.3269176)
If you are a donor and you found out the charities you gave money to are benefitting more from the money given to them than the intended recipients, how would you feel? You sacrifice some of your wants in order to be able to share some of your blessings and somehow make a positive difference in this world. Citizens in Ireland have put the pieces together and they are now speaking up, hopeful that transparency is something that most charities will start practicing to clear up any doubts the public may have on them.
It also found that 83% of people think charities will have to be more transparent about their spending, while 60% said wages in the charity sector are too high.
About two-thirds of respondents, 64%, say there are too many charities with similar functions and roughly the same proportion (68%) say such charities should merge.
Broadly, the same share of those interviewed (68%) think charities should hire the best professionals available.
However, only 41% feel that charities should pay competitive salaries for these professionals, while 64% of people believe most of the work carried out by charities should be done by volunteers.
(Via: https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2017/1026/915327-charities/)
The reason charities exist is to give and uplift other people's lives, which is why it does not feel right to see the very people running these organizations living the life of the rich and the famous because the money can be put to good use where many in need can possibly benefit from and not just a few. Some even believe that volunteers should be running charities and not paid employees because it loses the very essence of charitable acts that started out to be a voluntary gesture in response to seeing the suffering of others. How can they still save other people from their suffering if they are too busy enjoying the perks that money brings and forgetting why their organization exists in the first place. You can’t blame the masses if they are having second thoughts now in giving when they can see their donations being squandered away by those who do not deserve help.

Turn Weed Into Money
The stigma associated with weed is gradually being erased in the minds of the public as more and more US states declare it legal to grow, sell, and use marijuana either for medical or recreational use. Gone were the times when you’d be highly criticized for using it or you may even end up in jail if you are unfortunate enough to be caught. This change in mindset is evident everywhere from casual talks about weeds and its use and the now ever-growing and lucrative cannabis business that makes money faster than you can grow the weeds itself. And weed growers breed different varieties of cannabis as well that caters to different needs of its end users. Those who are simply after its natural high can opt for the THC-rich cannabis, which was common from even before. Medical cannabis users prefer CBD-rich breeds because it is more beneficial health-wise and does not get you high like recreational users do.
There are many variants of cannabis-based products sold in the market today. Just go to any marijuana dispensary and you can buy some that are sold as leaves itself or others that were turned into pills, gummy bears, chocolate bars or any form of edible cannabis, which is probably the easiest to take and the most affordable too. Topical wax is beneficial for body pains while tinctures are more convenient to use than sprays which leave a terrible aftertaste. The downside to all these is that it takes time for them to take effect whereas you can feel its effects kicking in roughly five minutes from a good old marijuana delivered through a vaporizer. With all these many varieties to choose from and the growing demand for weeds as a whole, it is easy to see why many businessmen want to join in on the bandwagon and take their piece of pie from selling weed.
A trade expo in the nation's capital is showcasing how big the marijuana business is and will be when recreational use of the drug is legalized in July 2018.
Licensed producers, soil experts and companies that sell marijuana paraphernalia are exhibiting their products and expertise at the first ever Ottawa Cannabis & Hemp Expo this weekend.
The show is not only educational for current and prospective marijuana users, but also fights the stigma attached to the drug's use, said Kevin Blackburn, the show's manager.
The trade show includes a vaping lounge, which is only accessible to medical marijuana card holders, Blackburn said.
(Via: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/marijuana-business-expo-ottawa-1.4377543)
Not only are the products made from the weed itself rack in a lot of cash but even those products related to its use like dabbing accessories such as thick glass dab pipes among others that cannabis user likely comes across or use when they’re into the use of marijuana. They are selling products like these like hot pancakes to meet the demand for marijuana accessories as more people finally get their hands on this unassuming weed especially today that even doctors start prescribing them to their patients. It is gradually being accepted as an alternative treatment for a wide variety of medical maladies that have plagued mankind for quite some time now.

With marijuana legalization looming, Edmonton is opening up its doors to businesses and inquiries alike — from local establishments to established entrerprises.
Edmonton officials have passed multiple bylaws ahead of the federal government's 2018 target of legalization, including bylaws that prevent existing bars and cannabis paraphernalia stores from transitioning into marijuana lounges.
But Colton Kirsop from the city said that hasn't stopped citizens and businesses from making inquiries and applying to open marijuana-related businesses, including cannabis lounges and production facilities.
"We have heard from a number of citizens and businesses that would like to know more about [marijuana-related businesses]," Kirsop told CBC News.
He said there are "upward of 20 contacts that are interested in cannabis lounges or cannabis storefronts," and three permits for commercial licence production have already been issued.
(Via: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/cannabis-marijuana-edmonton-business-1.4237622)
Many people are itching to know more about how a marijuana-based business works seeing the potential for profit and growth in an industry that just barely took off for real. As long as you can meet the licensing requirements and you will be starting your business somewhere that has already legalized cannabis sale, then you’re virtually good to go. And the good thing about this thriving business is that it will not only profit the owner but it will eventually generate hundreds, if not thousands, of new jobs that will have a positive effect on the local economy. So, it’s a win-win situation for all, that’s if you have an open mind to the use of marijuana at all.

New Media Rules
If there is one thing that is constant in our modern world right now, it is the presence and global influence of technology in every aspect of our lives regardless of what part of the world you live in. You use tech gadgets in your daily life whether for work or leisure. Young or old, you can’t just get enough of whatever technology has to offer. Older people have a hard time catching up with all these new technologies as they become more complex and tedious to do as the days go by. It is why the youth of today has an advantage over this aspect as they grew up at a time when technology is basically a staple in their life and something that is taught extensively at school.
It is important to stay updated with technology because it is constantly evolving. The trend today may already be outdated tomorrow and replaced by something cooler, faster, and more efficient. People who are adept in the new media won’t have a problem looking for work, excelling in school, standing out in a crowd, and essentially navigating this highly digital world we are living in now. You can’t always live in the past, so embrace all these new changes because they will definitely be here for good.
Technology around the world is evolving at an extraordinary rate, making the realm of new media and communication more exciting than ever before.
Media Studies is a truly contemporary subject that plays a significant role in society and our lives. As such, the ability to analyse and study new media is a really great skill to have. Students of new media are equipped for the future, graduating with the technological skills and leadership expertise needed to be effective communicators and global citizens.
Students will learn to work as a team to solve organisational issues, cultivating leadership qualities, integrating business theory, practice and communication. A degree in Creative New Media opens the door to a number of career opportunities after graduation. Independent film making, film and television industries, advertising, marketing and public relations, animation and media design, publishing and journalism are all potential careers, while the skills attained are easily transferable to other employment paths.
(Via: https://www.studyinternational.com/news/discover-exciting-world-creative-new-media/#BeHIHjK5tgAfmL6l.97)
In highly progressive cities and countries, the ones with new media skills gets hired or promoted first simply because they would the most effective for the job since they don’t need to be trained as much and can very well work on their own, with little supervision, soon after joining on board unlike older employees who need to be educated about the different processes and systems that run the company. After all, it is the universal language spoken by all today that bridges gaps and the myriad of differences we all have.
The internet and the rise of social media has changed the terms of the free speech debate worldwide. There has always been bad information, propaganda, and disinformation deliberately put out to affect political outcomes. The traditional free speech defense has been the marketplace of ideas: if there is bad information, the solution is not to censor or regulate it, but to put out good information, which will eventually counter the bad. More information is always better. But it’s not clear that this strategy works so well in the internet age, when thousands of bots and trolls can amplify the bad messages without anyone knowing. The platforms’ business models exacerbate the problem with algorithms that optimize for virality and accelerate the rate at which conspiracy stories and controversial posts are passed along.
(Via: https://www.the-american-interest.com/2017/10/30/social-media-democracy/)
While many can’t help but rave about the perks of technology and the Internet of Things as a whole, it has its cons too. Perhaps, the world is not yet ready for all the implications of going all digital that society at large has some trouble reconciling our way of life and our over-dependence on tech gadgets and its implications to our lives. The Internet and Social Media stand out the most since they have the biggest direct impact to people and likewise can be immediately felt by everyone. Like everything else from the distant past until now, we can only keep on moving forward and learn from our mistakes because it is the only way to go. We’ll eventually iron out all the kinks and make better use of technology in running this planet without destructing ourselves first.

North Korea: Is There Really A Threat Of War?
For the longest time in history, many of us have been aware of the unending rift in the Korean Peninsula. North and South Korea never really signed a peace treaty or agreement, hence they are technically still at war with each other until today.  If you haven’t been living inside a hole in recent years, you are also probably aware how many times North Korea has captured the world’s attention because of its brazen acts that mostly revolves on nuclear development and testing and unending threats to everyone who will listen. As of late, it actually seemed as if the threats are finally becoming real. There is the likelihood of an impending World War III and it scared a lot of people, you have to admit that.
Are we really supposed to be scared of North Korea’s threats and start building shelters that can survive nuclear attacks? Well, it is too early to tell now as the fire has seemed to die down since the last time they sent missiles flying past Japan. The US seems really upset at North Korea and we all know Trump is no man of words, I mean not good with words. The obvious conflict between the US and Russia is also an issue somewhere in this equation. Then, let’s not ignore the global power that is China, a known ally of North Korea. Will we really be seeing real worldwide-scale war for real or can diplomacy still put out the fire, so we can all pretend all these talks of nuclear war and more wars never really happened?
China, traditionally North Korea’s most faithful patron, fears an influx of refugees if war comes, and looks with distrust at our military alliance with South Korea and Japan. The latter, committed to “defensive” weapons since its defeat in 1945 and the elimination of atomic warfare as the world’s only victim of nuclear attacks, has historical, geographical and cultural reasons for fearing military uses of atomic power — not to mention concern about North Korean test missiles recently shooting over its territory.
Russia has historical distrust of China and Japan, and under Putin has revived its own nationalistic ambitions. As for America, much is written of our isolationism before World War II, the impact it had on events leading to that war and what many see as the hazards of “America-first” policies now. Meanwhile, North Korea’s diplomats and state-controlled media delight in portraying President Donald Trump as the true warmonger.
In short, it’s a frightening but exciting time to engage in a study of global affairs. Moreover, it’s our duty as educators to do so.
(Via: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/north-korea-how-we-might-be-on-the-brink-of-opportunity_us_59f731dde4b05f0ade1b58b9)
There is so much political drama going on today it is hard to keep up anymore or even choose sides if you have to. Of course, we all don’t want a massive disaster in our midst if it can be presented but we don’t really know what is going inside the crazy mind of Kim Jong-un, the current supreme leader of the land and the third-generation leader of the Kim family of North Korea. He may be hard to understand and misunderstood most of the time but world leaders of today will generally strive for peace at all cost for the benefit of everyone on the planet even if it means attempting to make a deal with him. We will all lose if World War III breaks loose. Even the isolated wars and political conflicts in certain areas are hard as they are, so we won’t really be aspiring for something terribly destructive.
“George W Bush’s ascension to president in 2001 produced a declaration from his advisers that the 1994 agreement was dead in the water. (Thus)
in December 2002, the DPRK expelled the IAEA inspectors, restarted the Yongbyon reactor and withdrew from the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
“Bush meanwhile, declared his intention of dealing with North Korea after Iraq.
“In spring 2003 the North made another offer to the US: it would scrap its nuclear development if the US would normalise relations and provide basic security guarantees.
“Six years later, in 2009, substantive talks involving Russia and China as well as Japan, the US and both Koreas had goals which included the normalising of diplomatic relations, an end to trade sanctions and acknowledgement of the North’s right to use nuclear energy.
“But these talks collapsed after both the US and the ROK rejected the North’s gradual dismantling of its nuclear weapons.
(Via: https://www.globalresearch.ca/north-korea-a-threat-or-a-victim-some-facts/5615502)
Well, North Korea’s aggression to most Western nations may not be baseless after all. Yet, as spectators of this risky drama should bear in mind we are clueless about all the details so we can’t really tell what’s real and what’s not. What we just know is that there is a threat, from where, it’s quite misleading, but it can possibly make life more difficult for all of us if not stopped before the fire even fans out. We can’t risk losing the highly organized world order we have painstakingly built over the years because of some careless remarks and mistakes that could’ve been easily prevented with a little diplomacy.

Is Your Christmas Tree Up?
Christmas is almost around the corner. You can sense it already. The wind is colder and many homes have started putting up Christmas decoration. Many are undeniably bitten by the Christmas spirit. Who‘d be able to resist it after all when it promotes nothing but positiveness, forgiveness, love, sharing, and good tidings and cheer. Most people’s fondest memories are that of Christmas maybe because the family is complete, making memories and eating together. The shopping is something some love, whereas others take to online shops to score great deals. Those who have issues learn to put their differences aside and simply celebrate the season without animosity and with only good thoughts for one another.
Aside from the food and the presents, the most striking representation of Christmas is the holiday decors most especially the Christmas tree. Nothing spells Christmas perfectly than seeing a tall, lighted and well-decorated Christmas tree, whether it is real or not. Kids’ faces light up once they see it standing tall and bright in their homes most especially once gifts start piling up at the bottom. People start preparing this iconic Christmas decoration at different times of the year depending on where you live. Some celebrate a longer Christmas season and got their trees up months before the holidays while some much later especially if they are using live ones, which is pretty understandable.
Increasingly, December 1 is seen as an optimum time to deck the tree - but will that mean the kids’ build-up of excitement will lose momentum before the big day and - in the case of real trees - will there be more needles on the floor than on its branches by the time you sit down to Christmas dinner?
In the past, the tree would be put up on the afternoon of Christmas Eve - so you can imagine the sudden impact on children of seeing it for the first time just ahead of their most eagerly-anticipated day of the year.
These days that’s considered far too late by most people and, again for those who buy a real tree, it simply wouldn’t leave them long enough to enjoy it. And it’s always sad to see beautiful trees cast aside near the bins post-Christmas while still in their first flush of youth.
(Via: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/family-kids-news/when-put-up-christmas-tree-13904925)
In all honesty, there is no right timing for setting up your tree. It depends on you, after all. Whatever you believe in or practices is all up to you. If you decide to set it up way earlier than the rest, then it’s your call. At least you get to enjoy that lingering Christmas feeling in your home and they do sure brighten up any space. Other people’s concern is usually directed at live ones that require more upkeep and might be wilted by the time Christmas arrived if prepared way earlier than it should be. Other parents want to highlight the impact a tree could bring to Christmas Eve and see the big smiles on their children’s faces rather than lose their interest if they set it up months in advance.
Caring for your tree
Now that you have your tree, let’s work on keeping it alive through the holiday season. Here are Cameron’s tips:
Provide plenty of water. As a rule of thumb, provide 1 quart of water per inch of trunk diameter. The water temperature is not important.
Use a stand that fits your tree. Do not have outer layers of the trunk to fit a smaller stand, as those layers of wood are the most efficient in taking up water.
Make a fresh, perpendicular cut to the bottom of the trunk before placing it in the tree stand.
Do not drill holes in the trunk. It will not improve water uptake!
Keep trees away from major sources of heat, and use Christmas tree lights that produce low heat.
(Via: https://www.today.com/home/christmas-tree-shopping-here-s-what-you-need-know-t58531)
If your tree is already up and you’re having a live one, these tips will definitely come handy in the upkeep. Real trees are special. You can’t put the same tree up again the following year because they’re dead by then. One thing you should know is that there are different live trees used as Christmas decors like fir, spruce, cypress, and pine. Different trees need different upkeep. Just following the tips mentioned here can mean a lot to your Christmas experience. After all, a home without a tree on Christmas day feels incomplete and nobody’s arguing with that. I’m sure there are people who don’t celebrate Christmas because of religious differences and all but for those who do, don’t forget to put those tree ups soon because Christmas is definitely not canceled this year or the next and the next.

Academics: Is It Really Preparing The Youth To What Awaits Them In Real-Life?
Life is a cycle. From youth to old age, most of us experience the same things, happiness, and joys, albeit with a personal twist. If there is one major memory we all share, it’s that of our school life. After all, all of us go to school at an early age and spend a great deal of our day and early life in the four corners of the classroom learning everything we need to know to become a fully-functioning adult once we step out into the real world. It’s for a good reason too because the academe prepares the students for what’s waiting in real life. No, graduation isn’t just an accomplishment or the end to learning but actually the beginning of the first real chapter of your life where you make all the decisions and face its consequences too.
Before doing your own thing, many of today’s youth struggle at school and some actually hate it since they fail to realize the purpose of everything they are learning. If you just try to look past the struggles and see the silver lining in all the endeavors you are facing, getting yourself an education won’t seem like a burden anymore but an opportunity to improve yourself, so you can finally achieve your dreams for real. Not all the time there is something you can do about the outside factors in your life but there is something you can do about your mindset or the way you perceive things.
Changing the way you think about your circumstances is also achievable. Many academics see their jobs as callings rather than as merely a means to pay the bills; people who think this way report higher job satisfaction. Moreover, many academics are, objectively, doing just fine; professionally and intellectually, they are succeeding at a high level.
But it doesn’t always feel that way. One reason is that academics (like most other people) are prone to comparing themselves with colleagues and subject peers. Comparison – whether it is h‑indexes or promotion trajectories – has been shown to be toxic to happiness. It isn’t that glum people compare themselves with those doing better while happy people compare themselves with those doing worse: happy people simply don’t compare themselves with others at all – and happy academics are probably spending all that extra psychological energy applying for grants.
(Via: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/features/how-be-happy-academics-advise-what-brings-joy-work)
People with a happier disposition will be able to better deal with stress and not allow themselves to be discouraged by whatever problem they are facing in their studies. Be kind to yourself and learn to embrace your flaws inasmuch as you celebrate your successes. We all grow internally and externally and we can only be happy with all these changes if we aren’t too hard on ourselves. This open-mindedness and acceptance of ones’ self also help with learning as it is easier to absorb new information if you don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
Focus on rules can diminish children’s willingness to take academic risks and curiosity as well as impede their self-confidence and motivation as learners—all of which can negatively affect their performance in school and in later life.
Giving children a chance to play and engage in hands-on learning activities helps them internalize new information as well as compare and contrast what they’re learning with what they already know. It also provides them with the chance to interact with their peers in a more natural setting and to solve problems on their own. Lastly, it allows kindergartners to make sense of their emotional experiences in and out of school.
So children asking for more time to play are not trying to get out of work. They know they have to work in school. Rather, they’re asking for a chance to recharge as well as be themselves.
(Via: http://www.yesmagazine.org/happiness/kindergartners-get-little-time-to-play-heres-why-thats-a-problem-20170911)
The pressure in learning isn’t just felt by those older students but even the young ones too. Although we all know how much kids need to learn these days, it is also stripping them of the chance to enjoy their childhood and not get too overwhelmed by school work. Even kindergarteners are expected to perform better in class when they should be out there playing in the dirt and sand and not having a care in the world.
Social order has certainly shifted since most parents right now hold jobs that require their full time and attention that they no longer have time to spare for their children. As a result, they leave their kids in daycare centers or enroll them too early in school that in turn require too much from the kids in terms of learning new things. It may be good that they know all these things but it also has its cons. And because of this, young kids begin to loathe learning which isn’t good at all knowing how much value a good education is to a person’s life.

Digital Marketing Done Right
The world is full of clutter today it is hard to stand out from the crowd most of the time. There is just too much noise and so many other things competing for people’s attention.  You really have to be crafty in order to grab the attention of others and make a positive impact to them. Getting your business recognized is your main goal as a business owner because that’s when your brand becomes relevant to the public and the money starts pouring in. But gaining traction does not happen overnight. It is the product of hard work and a lot of effort, not to mention the money you use up to promote your business.
However, some people are claiming that the marketing that we know of is already dead today. Yes, you heard me right. When you think about marketing, what usually comes to find? I’m pretty sure you all think about money. You spend money to earn money That’s the old mantra of business. But today, you can actually make money through your own marketing efforts. It’s the power of social media and the web. Marketing is no longer confined to the print, TV, and radio but has expanded its horizons to the depths of the web. The Internet is the real game-changer and it opened up a lot of new possibilities that businesses back then never had the luxury of benefiting from. You no longer have to do all the work because you can pass on the marketing tasks to your consumers without them knowing and you still benefit from their efforts.
The core message of their new book is acknowledging that the marketing world, as we have known it since the dawn of the big three (print, radio and TV), is our past and that marketing doesn’t have to be just a cost center anymore. When done well, brands can actually create a profit center from their marketing efforts. Instead of your marketing requiring additional financial resources, what if it generated new dollars? We’ve all heard the idea that brands should become media companies. You may not want to take your company quite that far. But wouldn’t you like to make money with your marketing efforts?
Let’s take a step back before we look at the future. Traditional marketing has been primarily advertising — the renting of space on someone else’s channel to earn attention and brand awareness and to alter the consumer’s behavior. Even PR falls under that description. Instead of buying an ad, the brand or their agency would pitch their story to the editorial side of the advertising channels. Their goal was to have a story written about them or their offerings that would create the same results as paid advertising would have generated.
Along came the internet and suddenly consumers found their voice. Until that shift, they’d been our silent audience. But as it became easier to share opinions on message boards, forums, social media channels, websites and review outlets, they got louder and louder.

Almost all businesses right now make use of the web in growing brand recognition especially that it is now possible to reach a bigger market without necessarily going out of your way to establishing a branch there. You can set-up online shops where consumers can place orders online and have their items shipped to them. It’s all so easy. If customers are happy with your service, they will even share their experience on social media and give a positive feedback to your company. In return, more people will be interested in your brand and may even consider buying your products or hiring your services when the need arises. That is how digital marketing works and you can leverage its benefits to your brand’s advantage.
If you want to build your brand’s reputation and attract clients in the long-term, you will need to create content that will grow exponentially. It’s not that sexy now, but is totallysexy once you start seeing clients roll in, excited to hire you before you’ve even spoken to them.
This is the work that enhances your skill set, demonstrates your expertise, and strongly positions you in your niche (i.e., building your brand). And it’s a double whammy; these efforts help you become better at communicating your expertise in person too.
You don’t need to do everything (blogging, social media, videos, youtube, speaking at events, workshops, networking groups. etc.), and certainly not all at once, so choose one or two that make sense for your industry or your talents. Then, put all your effort into doing them well. If you have no desire to get over your stage fright by speaking, then blogging might be the best option for you. If you’ve always been a bit of a ham, consider vlogging!

Content reigns supreme today. A lot of a brand’s success has to do with their content. And what’s great about content is that you get to use it for a long time and for a variety of reasons too. It gives your potential clients an idea of who you are and what you do and makes sealing a deal even easier and so much sweeter since you didn’t have to do all the hard work by yourself. Content is used in just about every aspect of online marketing now and it really delivers the result you want if you are just a little patient with it.
Consumers also appreciate that you take the time to communicate with them through the contents you post on your site and social media, hence strengthening the bond between you two. No matter how much success you are now enjoying, never ever forget that marketing your brand will never stop because your business will die if you do. Continue to make yourself relevant to the public and be visible all the time and you won’t have a hard time attracting customers especially if your product or service is above par than everyone else.

The Evolution Of The Arts
Many things have changed in our surrounding. Even us have changed too. Our lifestyle is no longer what it used to be and we behave differently as well. These changes happened gradually and mainly because of our continued exposure to technology. Wherever you look today, there are various tech contrivances designed to make our lives supposedly easier. However, it incurred additional expenses and headaches once things start to malfunction. This preoccupation with technology also has a major impact on various industries and mainstays in the society like the arts, for instance.
Nothing remains constant in this world. With major advancements in technology, it is bound to influence how people live their lives. And we all know that the arts are an expression of people’s feelings and views of the world. It reflects what the times are like when that work of art was made. These artistic expressions have greatly changed over the years because the world has changed as well but some can be quite mind-boggling too and involved the use of, yes you guessed it right, more technology.
Google introduces you to artists like Chris Ofili, known for working with elephant dung and creating works around black culture, Louise Bourgeois and her iconic giant spider sculptures and Douglas Coupland, the Canadian artist who coined the term "McJob" and calls failure "a pure state of being."
The collection also explains the difference between modern and contemporary art, taps experts and artists to answer the "big questions," ie, the most-searched ones on Google, like "what is the meaning of contemporary art." It also lets you explore artworks and exhibitions, galleries, mediums and methods and issues like racism, poverty and global warming that shape art. There's even a section called "Explaining Contemporary Art with Emojis," and, near and dear to Engadget's heart, "The Future of Art."
(Via: https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/06/google-arts-culture-contemporary-art/)
The future of the arts has arrived and artists are making use of technology or whatever they can get their hands on in expressing themselves and their artistry. If you look at their artworks, it can vary from almost everything there is under the sun. The best thing about modern life is we can now see for ourselves what these artworks are simply with a click of the button. Some are even immersive and interactive that attracts people to give the arts the time of day and no longer just be passive about it.
The capacity for creative expression is one of the defining qualities of being human. Our innovative imagination and ability to express it in so many different ways is unparalleled by any other living being.
However, art doesn’t just have to be for the sake of self-expression or aesthetics. The most powerful masterpieces have a mission infused into them. In fact, many modern-day artists are using their artistic capabilities as a tool to predict, explore, and even shape our future. They do so not just through visual arts, but also through music, movements, sculptures, and even multimedia.
For instance, I can tell you about the implications of technology on society, or I can take you on an immersive experience where I show you those effects or paint a potential future world for you. This is where art is a powerful tool.
(Via: https://singularityhub.com/2017/10/03/how-artists-are-using-tech-to-shape-the-future/)
Nothing remains constant. Artists show everyone their perception of the world and allow us to enjoy the fruits of their labor in a new light. The performance arts are especially benefiting from technology even if many think otherwise due to the threat of plagiarism and piracy. They now have a new platform where they can show off their talents without all the hassles that traditional artists had to deal with in the past and enjoy a bigger audience that have a wide variety of taste to support their craft.
There may be changes to our appreciation for the arts but let’s not forget either that artistic expressions also changes with time, and they make use of tools that are readily available to everyone. It all depends on how they utilize them for their artistic expressions and share to the world their inborn talents through no other than the web itself.

Polar Reactions To Global Warming
We used to hear about global warming in the past but here we are right now living in the very moment we have long feared about. Well, we can mainly blame ourselves for this misfortune as it was our human activities that hastened its arrival more than anything else. The planet is getting hotter and hotter very quickly and there seems to be no stopping it yet we only notice its effects that matter to us like the unimaginable heat, natural calamities becoming worse than before, and many animals and plant life are disappearing as they don’t usually have the modern contrivances that help us beat the heat unlike them that are left to fend for themselves in the wild. Greenhouse gases increases and more heat is trapped in the atmosphere – a deadly and vicious cycle we don’t know yet how to solve.
Now, what about rising sea levels and melting glaciers? Do we really grasp just how severe the problem has become when you are in a desolate place like the Antarctic, for instance? Yes, it is also a different story in the cold Antarctic waters where they can immediately feel the effect of the constant rise in the temperature by 1 degree each passing year. Biodiversity has significantly gone down and it allowed certain species to thrive deeper in the now warmer water like Moss and bottom-dwelling marine worm.
Marine life on the Antarctic seabed is likely to be far more affected by global warming than previously thought, say scientists who have conducted the most sophisticated study to date of heating impacts in the species-rich environment.
Growth rates of some fauna doubled – including colonising moss animals and undersea worms – following a 1C increase in temperature, making them more dominant, pushing out other species and reducing overall levels of biodiversity, according to the study published on Thursday in Current Biology.
The researchers who conducted the nine-month experiment in the Bellingshuan Sea say this could have alarming implications for marine life across the globe as temperatures rise over the coming decades as a result of manmade greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
(Via: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/aug/31/global-warming-doubles-growth-rates-of-antarctic-seabeds-marine-fauna-study)
The disappearance of the ice and the constant melting of the glaciers are most dramatic in this part of the world because of the increasing temperature with the highest in record so far at 17.5°C, highly unusual in this icy region. If this goes on, there is the danger of 90% of the world’s fresh water to be melted from its current icy cage and spilled into the ocean, thereby creating a new danger of higher sea level that may eventually submerge island nations like the Maldives when worst comes to worst.
It’s abundantly clear that climate change will shift ecosystems around the world, though. Similar experiments run in coral reefs, alpine forests, intertidal zones, and the tundra have all returned similar results. When the environment changes, diversity takes a nosedive as the few species that can survive take over. A 2006 study found that less diverse ocean environments were more prone to resource collapse and had poorer recovery potential, stability and water quality. Diverse environments are more stable and disease-resistant, those with only a few species have little genetic variation to deal with future disasters.
So, the Antarctic likely won’t become a barren wasteland because of climate change; there will still be plants and animals there. Without the complex, diverse environment that has been built up over the course of millions of years, however, it will have lost something crucial to any ecosystem: resilience.
(Via: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/d-brief/2017/08/31/global-warming-antarctica-oceans/#.WayPV8gjHIU)
We might as well accept the fact that global warming will forever change the various ecosystems deep in the water. While some species thrive in the warmer ocean environment, others that aren’t less resilient and couldn’t adapt to the warmer water may eventually perish and be gone for good. While some scientific studies have shown us a glimpse as to what the ocean will look like if global warming progresses, nobody can tell for sure what it really will be like when the time comes. It’s the reason why we should seriously get to the bottom of climate change and force changes that can slow down its progression if not ultimately stop it from progressing at all.

Why You Should Give Blogging The Time Of Day
There are a lot of things going on on the web today an ordinary person will feel overwhelmed by all the new things they come across when surfing the Internet. Even in social media, there are different platforms you can visit and have different features not everyone can always relate to. But if there is one thing this excessive use of technology has blessed us with, it’s that most of us became comfortable in using technology and in expressing ourselves through the use of social media, for example. A knack for writing is no longer just a pastime for some but can be a means of income too if you are especially good.
Ever heard of blogging? Yes, blogging has evolved to become a powerful tool used by individuals and businesses in connecting with people and communicating what their businesses stand for. While it may sound easy, it actually is not. Having to write engaging and powerful contents is not easy especially if you are expected to do it on a regular basis. There are different obstacles to blogging but it is undeniably a great way to stay in touch with your consumers or the public in general without spending a great deal of money unlike other means of online marketing that requires a bigger capital.
Oh boy, there are so many reasons why you should be blogging. Just type in ‘blogging reasons’ in a search machine and you will find thousands of articles telling you why you should be blogging. Rather than being original this week, I want to create an ultimate list for you, so you do not have to read all those articles. If you are an entrepreneur and you have not started blogging for your business yet, this ultimate list should persuade you, even if you are a bit afraid of starting. 1. Blogging is challenging, and challenges are good
Anyone who thinks that blogging is not challenging has not really done it. It is a challenge to sit down and write and to do that consistently. It is a challenge to put your ideas out there, but you should not be scared of it. You should embrace it because it makes you grow. By growing, you become more complex as an individual. Blogging is a challenge that you can handle and simply put, handling challenges can make you happy.
You do not have to write War and Peace
One of the hardest barriers to overcome is thinking you should have a Big Idea that no living human had ever shared before.
(Via: http://www.business2community.com/blogging/ultimate-list-reasons-blogging-01931429#m5s3AFUsd1uxhBx3.97)
For starters with a limited budget, free platforms like Wordpress or Blogger is an ideal tool to help get you started. After all, what matters most is your content and how your target audience responds to whatever is written there. You do not just post whatever you feel like posting because you want your blogging efforts to pay off over time. You even learn a lot of new things as you go since you definitely have to do some research on the contents you post, so it is a win-win situation for you. You learn and earn as you go.
Marketing a small business online can be a challenge, especially with the amount of noise on social media nowadays. But creating a digital brand that stands out and captures the attention of an audience doesn’t have to be a challenge – you can grow your business and make an impact by publishing high-quality content that answers questions and engages.
Below, we’ve rounded up some of the biggest benefits of content marketing for small business owners. Read on to see how just a blog a week could transform your business.
It helps to improve your SEO
In order to rank highly for competitive keywords and terms in your industry, you need to create high-quality content. Of course, you’ll spend time crafting the perfect content for your homepage and services pages, but once your website has been completed, you’ll soon run out of “space” – and that’s where blogging can play a useful role.
(Via: http://irishtechnews.ie/why-content-is-so-important-for-growing-your-business/)
It is even more imperative for you to start up your own blog now if you own a business for a lot of reasons. The use of keywords helps a lot as it streamlines your content and helps you reach your target market faster and also ups your ranking on search engines. We all know how influential Google is to the public since most people use it on a daily basis in as much as they use social media. And aside from just posting your content on your site, you can also share them on social media so that more people can see it and you’d see faster results. There are many ways you can optimize your brand through your content and blogging is the perfect way to make things happen without having to do all the work yourself.
