Running and Stronger Bones
Tumblr media
A practicing Catholic actively involved in charitable activities, Bradley DiTeresi is also a partner at Casas Hof Constructora e Inmobiliaria, a real estate development company building condominiums in Peru. To stay fit, Bradley DiTeresi runs regularly. Osteoporosis is a disease marked by low bone mass and a higher risk of bone fractures. According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation, more than 200 million people worldwide have the disease. It is a serious health issue. A study conducted by the University of Missouri revealed that high impact sports, particularly running, leads to increased bone mineral density. According to the United States Sports Academy, running appears to result in a greater increase in bone density compared to other sports including cycling, rowing, and swimming. Running moderately, 12 to 19 miles per week, has the most beneficial effect. Runners who go beyond this range risk elevated cortisol levels in their blood, and this hormone can impair bone health. As a reminder, one should consult a doctor before engaging in any exercise regimen.

Alzheimer's Association Rolls Out New Telementoring Program
Tumblr media
Bradley DiTeresi oversees operations for a real estate development firm in Peru that specializes in building condominiums. Apart from his everyday duties, Bradley DiTeresi supports the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association to find new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. In September 2018, the Alzheimer’s Association launched a new system designed to provide ongoing support to caregivers at assisted-living facilities through video-based mentoring sessions. The program will last for six months and will feature presentations on a biweekly basis from some of the leading authorities in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. It was modeled after the Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) initiative, which was first launched at the University of New Mexico 15 years ago as a way to provide hepatitis C-treatment training to rural health providers. The six-month pilot program is presented in partnership with the New York Academy of Medicine. Participants will take part in 12 hour-long sessions. These video conferences will highlight key elements of the recently-released Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations, which were developed as a collaborative effort by experts in the field as a standardized set of best practices for health-care providers who work with patients with Alzheimer’s or dementia. How Unbound's Education Program Can Help
Tumblr media
Bradley DiTeresi is a financial analyst who previously served at V Wealth Management LLC in Kansas. A philanthropist, Bradley DiTeresi sponsors a child through Unbound. A nonprofit based in Kansas City, Unbound, formerly known as the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, works internationally to address the needs of the marginalized and vulnerable. The organization currently works in 18 countries. In addition to facilitating child sponsorships, Unbound also collects donations for its education program. These funds are used to help lower-income teenagers continue on to college after completing high school. This education program has helped many, including Ingrid, a Guatemalan woman who graduated as a certified bilingual education teacher against many odds, including the fact that most females in Guatemala only complete six years of schooling. Ingrid benefited from an Ohio-based sponsor for 11 years and also received a scholarship from Unbound that enabled her to continue her schooling, help that was essential, as the average family in her region makes only about $40 a month. As a result of her formal education, Ingrid will be able to secure a financially sound future for herself and her family, and also help others achieve their educational goals.

Early Life Lessons That Informed St. Augustine's Faith
Tumblr media
Based in Kansas City, Bradley DiTeresi is a practicing Catholic who maintains a successful professional career that includes real estate development. With a passion for reading on matters of faith, Bradley DiTeresi enjoys the works of Doctors of the Church, including St. Augustine. Born in present-day Algeria in 354 AD, St. Augustine was raised in an unconventional household for a future saint. While his mother St. Monica adhered to Christian beliefs, his father Patricius was outside the faith and only converted to Christ shortly before his passing. Augustine himself was not baptized until he was an adult. One of Augustine’s formative moments as a youth involved joining in with a group of friends in stealing pears from a tree. This act, committed not out of hunger but as a prank, later led to Augustine's self-assessment that he had undertaken “evil without purpose,” with “no cause for my evil but evil itself.” Another moment of sin, before he embraced the Christian faith, involved a relationship with a woman that resulted in the birth of a son out of wedlock. Augustine named the child Adeodatus, which in Latin means “by God given,” indicating Augustine’s awareness that, regardless of how a child has been conceived, he or she represents a gift of God, regardless of what sins the parents have committed.

About the New Telementoring Program from the Alzheimer's Association
Tumblr media
An MBA graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Bradley DiTeresi serves as a partner in Casas Hof Constructora e Inmobiliaria, a real estate development firm based in Peru. A supporter of various charitable organizations outside of his work, Bradley DiTeresi is a longtime backer of the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association. Based on other successful distance mentoring initiatives, the six-month pilot initiative will be a complementary mix of live presentations and interactive case studies aimed at creating a culture of person-focused care for these individuals in a community health setting. Over its six months, the program developed by the Alzheimer’s Association will present 12 hour-long sessions of curriculum strongly grounded in Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations. The association is basing its new pilot program on Project Echo, an initiative that was birthed out of the University of Mexico in the early 2000s. Over its lifespan, the telementoring program has served as the basis for providing education to health care professionals in a wide range of medical disciplines.

The organization is the largest nonprofit funder of research for treatment, prevention, and an eventual cure of Alzheimer’s disease. Since 1982, the Alzheimer’s Association has donated over $410 million to 2,700 scientific studies. The projects, directed by independent researchers across the world, focus on the entire dementia spectrum. Studies aim to deepen the medical community’s understanding of Alzheimer’s, identify new treatments, improve care, and support people and families who are affected by the disease. Projects are vetted by scientists and professionals on the Scientific Advisory Council. Currently, 400 international projects are underway. Some of the most active areas of research and funding center on identifying biomarkers which can be tracked with various types of imaging. Relatively recent developments involve the identification of biomarkers that are capable of helping researchers diagnose Alzheimer’s disease early, which may eventually lead to delaying the disease’s progression. These biomarkers will also help medical professionals determine the success of various treatments.

Lupus Foundation Applauds Efforts to Raise AVISE Awareness
Tumblr media
A finance professional and entrepreneur, Bradley DiTeresi serves as a partner in Casas Hof Constructora e Inmobilaria, a real estate development firm that builds condominium developments in Peru. Outside his professional life, Bradley DiTeresi supports worthy causes such as the Lupus Foundation of America. In January 2018, the Lupus Foundation of America announced a new joint initiative between Exagen Diagnostics and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) that will help promote AVISE testing procedures for lupus. Developed by Exagen, these tests have had a major impact on treating the disease, since they allow doctors to diagnose the illness earlier than was able in the past. According to the foundation, lupus is traditionally diagnosed over a six-year period, and patients have an average of four doctors before they finally find out they have the disease. AVISE testing looks at special blood biomarkers, however, and can greatly reduce that time, meaning patients receive treatment more quickly. The foundation supports the efforts of Exagen and GSK to raise awareness about testing, as one of the organization’s major goals is to see patients receive quicker diagnoses.

A Brief Description of Lupus
Tumblr media
A graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Bradley DiTeresi holds a master of business administration in finance. In addition to his professional pursuits, Bradley DiTeresi makes donations to charitable organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association and the Lupus Foundation of America. Committed to improving the quality of life for individuals with lupus, the Lupus Foundation of America promotes research, education, and advocacy related to the mysterious and devastating illness. Lupus is a chronic disorder in which the immune system cannot distinguish between the body's healthy tissue and harmful foreign invaders such and viruses and bacteria; as a result, it attacks the healthy tissue, often damaging organs, skin, and joints. Severity of the condition ranges from mild to life-threatening, and each year more than 16,000 new cases are reported across the United States. Most common in women of childbearing age, lupus is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors such as infections or overexposure to sunlight. With early diagnosis, lupus can be managed effectively through medications and therapies that help slow the disease’s progress.

Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si Brings Focus to the Environment
Tumblr media
Bradley DiTeresi is a practicing Catholic who centers many of his life’s activities around his faith. One of Bradley DiTeresi’s pastimes is perusing the writings of Doctors of the Church, from Catherine of Siena to Pope Francis.. One of Pope Francis’ most widely-disseminated recent writings has been the Encyclical Laudato Si, which is subtitled “On Care for Our Common Home.” As reported by Focus On Campus, this document serves as “a worldwide wake-up call” in addressing man’s destruction of fellow humans and the environment. Presenting Gospel truths in a way that reaches the contemporary believer, Laudato Si has at its core an urgent appeal that we engage in a new conversation examining how humans are shaping the planet’s future. Pope Francis points to the human roots of these challenges and to the need for “profound interior conversion,” where confronting the ecological crisis and protecting God’s handiwork becomes a primary vocation.

Dog Training Strengthens Bond and Ensures Pet Safety
Tumblr media
Bradley DiTeresi is a partner at Casas Hof Constructora e Inmobiliaria, a real estate development firm that builds condos in Peru. Outside of his professional life, Bradley DiTeresi pursues a variety of hobbies that include training his dogs. Dog training allows pets and their owners to build a stronger bond. When properly trained, a dog looks to its owner as the alpha member of the pack, or as the leader. This encourages the dog to respect and listen to its owner’s commands. Dogs who have been trained to understand and respond to commands have a lower risk of accidental injury. For example, if a dog ran out the door and into the front yard, the owner could call him back home with a special recall command before he reached the street. Owners who work with their dogs in obedience training will find that their pets are more responsive. If their dog ever had to be adopted out for any reason, owners would have an easier time placing those that were trained versus those that were not.

Unbound, Providing Sponsorship for Children in Need
Tumblr media
Bradley DiTeresi is a financial analyst based in Kansas. Outside of his work in wealth management, Bradley DiTeresi is a travel enthusiast, a regular KC Royals games attendee, and a sponsor for Unbound. Unbound is a global nonprofit organization that matches sponsors with children in need across the world. The sponsors pay a minimum of $36 a month, which goes directly to supporting a child, providing him or her with supplies that not only keep the youngster healthy, but also become more self-sufficient. Unbound also focuses on working specifically with mothers, as it believes that they often have the best idea of how to help their family situation. Beyond receiving donations, Unbound holds a strong belief in keeping the sponsoring personal and direct. Sponsors see pictures of the families they are sending money to, as well as receive a brief description of their beneficiaries’ likes, dislikes, hobbies, and living situations. In this way, sponsors are able to see the direct effect of their support. Further, Unbound provides international travel options for sponsors to meet in person with the families they are funding to experience their recipients’ situations for themselves, celebrate their achievements, and get involved in the local community. To become a sponsor, or see more information, visit unbound.org.
