Quickly signed to esteemed British indie label Go!Discs, the group used its label advance to set up their own recording studio, Shabby Road, in nearby Kilmarnock, where they settled in to create three critically- acclaimed albums. The first of these, Cake, was released in the summer of 1990. Produced by John Leckie, it featured debut single "Obscurity Knocks" and its follow-up “Only Tongue Can Tell”, both of which became alternative radio hits in the USA, and introduced the group to what has become a loving and loyal fan base around the world. Their beloved second album, I've Seen Everything, produced by Gentle Giant’s Ray Shulman, came along in 1993, preceded by the lauded single “Hayfever.” The group’s next album, 1996’s self-produced A Happy Pocket, featured four singles, including the band’s much-loved cover of "To Sir, With Love". After leaving Go! Discs in 1998, the group kept a low profile for a few years, playing sporadic shows and releasing the odd single, until the release of their fourth album, Weightlifting, in the autumn of 2004. Extensive touring in support of that album followed, with shows in the UK, Europe, USA, Japan and Australia.

Yucca Valley • 6/21 • 12pm Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Coyote Hole Canyon Surprises • Hi-Desert Nature Museum 57090 Twentynine Palms Hwy, Yucca Valley, California 92284 • Presented by John Michael Rafter Coyote Hole Canyon is located near Joshua Tree Village, California, and just north of the north entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. The approximately 3,000-foot-long canyon stretches from south to north and rock art can be found on its east and west sides on granitic boulders. John was first introduced to Coyote Hole Canyon and its rock art in 1990. During his studies there he encountered several surprises involving its rock art, the likes of which he has not seen elsewhere. John reports evidence of several rock art alignments with significant solar events, including unique sunlight and shadow interactions with rock art. Recent findings revealed even more solar alignments, and one such alignment appears to be still in observance by someone or some group as recently as 2017. John Rafter has been interested in the study of rock art since 1975. He became Mr. Turner’s assistant field director in the Black Canyon rock art recording project and he used his artistic talents to properly record the canyon’s rock art. Ultimately, his study of rock art merged with his interest in archaeoastronomy, which then led him to sites he found to have astronomical connections in areas once occupied by the Luiseño and the Chemehuevi. This also led him to a fortuitous meeting with the late Carobeth Laird, author of “The Chemehuevis”. John inherited over 3,500 pages of Mrs. Laird’s ethnographic notes that contained rare information on the Chemehuevi’s vast knowledge of astronomy. Since 1981, John has been one of the guest speakers at the San Diego Rock Art symposium, all on the subject of his many archaeoastronomical findings. Bring your lunch, bring your friends, or just bring yourself to our Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series once a month. Speakers will present topics of special interest for high desert residents. The lectures start at 12:00 p.m. Admission is $ 5 or free for Museum Members/Sponsors. Beverages will be served.

Pioneer Town • 6/14 • 8pm Ginger Cowgirl • Pappy & Harriet's 53688 Pioneertown Rd, Pioneertown, California 92268 • FREE SHOW! https://www.gingercowgirl.com/ https://www.facebook.com/gingercowgirl Ginger Cowgirl hit the scene in 2015 after award-winning vocalist Stacy Antonel took a shine to some old country LPs. Already a working jazz and rock vocalist, country music was a new adventure but it paid off. Soon the new band was performing regularly throughout San Diego, from honky-tonk dives to the legendary Belly Up. In 2017 Ginger Cowgirl relocated to Nashville,Tennessee. The band features eclectic, multi-lingual vocalist Stacy Antonel, who in 2013 beat out hundreds of singers to take home the grand prize of $10,000 in Fox San Diego’s televised singing series “3 Minutes to Stardom”. She’s backed by a band composed of both young newcomers to the genre and seasoned musicians who’ve played with everyone from AJ Croce to Don Williams. The band's widely varying musical tastes and the unique quality of Antonel’s vocals combine for a fresh take on the classic country genre. After two years of garnering a strong following, the band is presently working on their debut recording, due in Summer 2018.

Bags will be checked. All sales final, no refunds. Set Times are Subject To Change “I feel like I’m in a totally new band right now,” says Dr. Dog guitarist/singer Scott McMicken. It’s a bold declaration considering he’s been co-fronting the beloved indie outfit for a decade-and-a-half, but it cuts straight to the heart of the intense and transformative experience behind the group’s brilliant new album, ‘Critical Equation.’ The most infectious and adventurous collection Dr. Dog has laid to tape yet, the record was born from a journey of doubt and discovery, a heavy, sometimes painful reckoning that ultimately brought the band closer together with more strength and clarity than ever before. Call it an existential awakening, call it a dark night of the soul, whatever it was, it fueled one of the most fertile creative periods in the group’s history and forced them to confront that timeless question: what do we really want? “We’d been touring and making records for our entire adult lives, and I think we just needed to take a step back,” reflects bassist/singer Toby Leaman, who splits fronting and songwriting duties with McMicken. “It was important for all of us to figure out if we were actually doing what we wanted to be doing, or if we were just letting momentum carry us down this path we’d always been on.”
