When there’s a new killjoy, there’s an induction process. Nothing special. Whoever’s available goes to the diner, and Jet Star sets up the presentation. Fun Ghoul and Party Poison read out the slides on the PowerPoint. They’re in cheerleader dresses. They have pom-poms. They don’t stop dancing. Planetary (GO!) is playing in the background the entire time. Kobra sits next to you. He’s the emotional support. He doesn’t do anything except sit there. It simultaneously makes the entire experience better and worse.

The entire presentation is in comic sans.

Jobs in the Zones

Killjoys, although they don't exactly have jobs, all have one thing that they do. It could be to make some cash, or just to help others.

Protectors

These are the guys with the cars and blasters, who spend their lives gunning down dracs. They often model themselves after The Fab Four, or later on, The V's.

Vendors

People like Tommy Chow Mein. They own the shops and show up at most markets, carrying stuff that people need, and random objects they collect.

DJs

There are very few of these, seen as if not done right, BL/ind can track their signals. These are the voices behind the killjoys, who call them to rally and warn of any danger. Two of the most well known are Dr Death Defying and DJ Hot Chimp.

Thieves

When the killjoys first formed, with nothing to keep them alive, thieves were the most important joys of them all. They'd sneak into Battery City and steal as much as they could for their friends and family. As the job is dangerous, and becoming less needed, their numbers are becoming sparse.

Musician

Music is a huge part of any killjoy's life, so bands needed to be started. Most joys try this, but only the best succeed. Namely, Mad Gear, and Richard Ai Yai Yai to name a few.

Artists

These are the joys who spray paint the finer details on your car, turn your blaster into a work of art, spice up your jacket, or create masterpieces to spite BL/ind. They are few and far between, but are well received in the rebellion of colour.

Zones Gothic

Your radio screeches to life suddenly one night, Black Dragon Fighting Society blasts through the desert. You scramble to shut it off when you remember you took the batteries out months ago.

You and your gang find an old killjoy mask. A friend warns you not to put it on but you do. Who are you? Where are you?

“Danger: Zone 9”. There are only seven zones. You just left Zone 3.

There’s an area near Zone 5 that no Draculoid will go to. The last patrol that did threw their masks off and disappeared into the desert with tears in their eyes.

A raygun stolen from a dead killjoy will always misfire. You’ve never missed a shot regardless.

Every month the Shrine spits out a letter with your name on it saying “you aim too low”, “be sure to get rest”, and “we love you”. You don’t know who they’re from.

If you find a trail of crow feathers, don’t follow it. You’ll see someone with long black hair and a hollow face. She’ll ask to see your mask. Do not give her your mask.

If you lie on the borders between the last Zone and No Mans Land you’ll see stars that shouldn’t exist. Wish on one and it’ll go out.

If you tap “_ _ _ _ _/… _ _ /. . _ _ _/. . _ _ _” on the Mailbox, sometimes you might hear it tap “. . -… -… ..-. … …. .- .-. .–. –. … …. .- .-. .–. ..-. … …. .- .-. .–.” back.

Killjoys don’t get happy endings. 

If they’re lucky, they settle down in a Neutral town, die with their friends nearby and wishing them luck to the afterlife, or they die of old age.

But most, most die violently. They die with their masks on and their hands still clutching a smoking ray gun. They die in shock, a surprise patrol they didn’t expect. They die in the aftermath of their own explosions. They die of their grief because they didn’t pay enough attention.

Killjoys don’t want happy endings. 

They’re the children of violence and rock ‘n roll, they don’t know what a happy ending is. The best way to go out is to go out fighting for what you believe in and hell, maybe one day all the lost souls will count for something. The best way to go out is back-to-back with your crew in a firefight you started for a reason. 

A killjoy’s happy ending is bulletproof, because you can’t take the fight from their lifeblood.
