MAKRI was established in January 2007 with historical missions to recover and identify the Korean war missing servicemen.
MAKRI has recovered around 9,800 remains of ROK soldiers including UN forces and collected around 40,000 DNA samples from the bereaved family members.  This has led to a successful identification of 128 ROK soldiers and 8 US soldiers and they were returned to their families.
KIA recovery project has contributed in enhancing international ties. Repatriating remains of the UN participant countries has promoted solid trust between ROK and its allies. Repatriation of Chinese forces remains takes place every year as a humanitarian effort.
With its internationally recognized expertise, MAKRI worked with Libyan authority to recover and identify Libyan missing personnel from the civil war and shared its expertise and experiences with Australia and Vietnam, thereby fostering national stature in the world.
The new era of peace and reconciliation is just around the corner. Still, countless number of our fallen heroes are still left behind in unknown battlefields. MAKRI hopes that one day, recovery work in DMZ and North Korea becomes possible thereby overcoming the pain of war.
MAKRI will continue to spare no effort in bringing our last hero home.

Do you know the truth behind Hashima Island in Japan?
Hashima Island, which was declared a UNESCO World Heirtage site in 2015, is actually the place where 600 Koreans were forced into labor. Especially, 120 people died because of this forced labor, but Japanese government is denying it and rather distorting historical fact. Therefore, I put up the advertisement 'Truth of Hashima Island' on New York Times Square to correct history and spread it to the world. Now I would like to tell the truth to the world through SNS. We hope that Japanese government will genuinely apologize to the victims of forced labor.

A History of Challenges – The Winter Olympic Games in the Republic of Korea
At the 1948 Winter Olympics held in St. Moritz, Switzerland, the nation of Korea was announced as a participant for the first time. It was a humble beginning for Korea, with the participation of only three athletes, but it was a historically meaningful because Korea’s national flag was raised at the Winter Olympics for the first time.
Korea has transformed itself into a Winter Olympics powerhouse.   After decades of tears and joy, inspiration and encouragement, Korea’s current wealth of talent in winter sports is set to realize all the fruits of it’s hard work.
We remember! The excitement of 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. The passion of 2002 FIFA World Cup.   In 2018, all the eyes of the world will be on PyeongChang, as we set the stage for Korea to show its strength and beauty to the world.
Now, it’s PyeongChang.

Kim Man-duk. Though the name may not sound familiar, it should. She was a woman ahead of her times; a historical figure recognized as the first female CEO and great entrepreneur of the Joseon Dynasty, but respected and beloved for her selfless acts and philanthropy.

Some 57,900 Koreans were pressed into work during the Second World War at seven of the 23 industrial facilities from the Meiji period that Japan has proposed for World Heritage listing. Japan should learn from the German example. The Germans believe appropriate apologies and compensation for victims should be made before anything else.

Leaders of major countries including America's President Obama, China's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands recognized the forced recruitment of comfort women (sexual slavery) for the Japanese military, but only Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is still continuing to lie about it. We hope that Prime Minister Abe sincerely apologizes to the former comfort women all over the world, as soon as possible, and refrains from future distortions of history.
