Marrionets are puppets. Specifically string puppets.

See you have hand or glove puppets moving mouth puppets, rod puppets, and marrionets. Then there are vent figures and no don't call them dummies. I understand the confusion though.

I don’t know if there is a difference between puppets and marionettes. I suspect one involves hands inside a doll or mechanism, while the other is controlled from strings above or sticks beneath (or behind). It doesn’t matter. I had several hand puppets that I used to entertain my kids while they were growing up, and I enjoyed telling stories with their help. What were your experiences with puppets? Did you like them, hate them, embrace them, or avoid them?

Rare JTTW Puppet Play

I am proud to host a guest post by @ryin-silverfish about a rare JTTW puppet play from Quanzhou, Fujian province, China. The play is roughly from the Yuan to early-Ming period, meaning that it predates the 1592 edition of the novel. There are parallels with the finished work, pointing to a possible influence, or at the very least, they borrowed from the same source. But there are many differences as well. The most surprising for me are:

Sha Wujing is the one who transforms into a white horse.

Erlang becomes one of Tripitaka's disciples after being demoted for flirting with a heavenly maiden.

Rio Pescado Stubfoot Toad (Atelopus balios), in amplexus (breeding embrace), family Bufonidae, endemic to SW Ecuador

CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.

Described in 1973, the species was rarely seen after that, and even thought extinct for awhile, until one was found again in 2011. Not many have been seen since then though. Zoos are working to help them recover.

Endangered due mainly to the chytrid fungus.
