Stranded in Germany, violinist returns to city with MEA help | News - Times of India BENGALURU: City-based violinist and composer Jyotsna Srikanth , who was in Germany on a concert tour recently, was stranded after she lost all her money and travel documents in a pickpocketing incident. She then reached out to the ministry of external affairs ( MEA ) through social media, whose intervention helped her return to Bengaluru on Saturday. Jyotsna’s passport , other travel documents and cash worth 4,000 Euros were stolen at a Christmas market in Düsseldorf, Germany, on December 15. “I lost all my money, travel documents and identification cards and felt completely helpless in the foreign country. I had expected to be stranded for at least a few weeks after Christmas. Locals told me that there was no way I could go home before Christmas or get my passport back,” said Jyotsna, who had lined up concerts back in India. Amid the gloom, a few friends, however, encouraged her to tweet to MEA and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj . On December 17, Jyotsna said in a tweet: “@MEAIndia @SushmaSwaraj mam I am a musician touring Germany, have British passport and OCI, I live in Bangalore, lost my wallet which had passport & OCI, my travel is booked on this Friday to India for an emergency, I will get British ETD today, pls help with visa to India (sic).” Jyotsna’s friends retweeted the post to grab MEA’s attention. “Within 20 minutes of tweeting, I was contacted by the Indian Embassy in Berlin and officials from Swaraj’s office in India,” Jyotsna said. “The embassy officers from Berlin and Frankfurt coordinated with MEA and arranged for my travel documents after I submitted police reports,” said a relieved Jyotsna. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/stranded-in-germany-violinist-returns-to-city-with-mea-help/articleshow/67236933.cms https://www.instagram.com/p/Brz_EY1lERT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=alvm38p4n19v

The man has been identified as Suraj Singh from Delhi. On Monday morning, when he reached office, the woman dragged him to Sector 20 police station. “I’ve never talked to him nor have I ever made any eye contact with him,” the woman said. His intention was not to defame her. “I only posted three pictures of her on my social media account.” Manoj Pant, SHO of Sector 20 police station said, “The victim did not give any written complaint but we called the parents of the accused to the police station and asked for a written assurance that he will not repeat this act in future.” https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/noida/techie-uploads-colleagues-pictures-on-social-media-detained/articleshow/67237746.cms https://www.instagram.com/p/Brz-3WiFAAt/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=hlq7j4xobnml

Crime and Criminology from Michael_Novakhov (8 sites): “political crimes” – Google News: UNHRC releases documents on state of Cambodia , National, Politics – The Phnom Penh Post | Publication date 24 December 2018 | 11:59 ICT Share UN Special Rapporteur Rhona Smith speaks to the press last year in Phnom Penh. Pha Lina UNHRC releases documents on state of Cambodia Mon, 24 December 2018 Niem Chheng The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has published three documents in preparation for a review next month on the situation in Cambodia. The UNHRC is set to review the human rights situation in the Kingdom on January 30 during the 32nd Universal Periodic Review (UPR), which is to be held from January 21 to February 1. The UPR was last held in January 2013. The three documents published by the UNHRC include a “Compilation on Cambodia”, a report submitted by the government and a summary of stakeholders’ submissions from rights organisations. The stated goal of the UPR is to improve the human rights situation in every country. It was designed “to prompt, support and expand the promotion and protection of human rights on the ground”. In the 11-page compilation document, a wide range of human rights issues were brought up and recommendations made. The information was taken from independent human rights experts and groups, human rights treaty bodies and other UN entities. The UNHRC has expressed concern over several reported deaths, injuries and a case of disappearance following demonstrations in Phnom Penh during the period under review – 2013 to 2018. Addressing such concerns, the UNHRC recommended that Cambodia systematically provide training to all security forces, including security guards, on the use of force in the context of demonstrations. It also raised concerns over what it said was the limited number of individuals brought to trial for crimes committed by the Khmer Rouge regime. It said comments by high-ranking government officials stating that there were no more cases left to try at the UN-sponsored Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia after the guilty verdicts https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national-politics/unhrc-releases-documents-state-cambodia https://www.instagram.com/p/Brz-p8YFAOa/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6e6cc622bn2
