At the risk of coming across as controversial, I’d like to give my opinion on some Ao3 discourse.

Ao3 was founded by a ThorKi shipper. Yes, someone who ships Marvel’s Thor and Loki, who are (albeit adopted) brothers. According to some data mining, it’s very likely the first fic on the site was a Wincest one as well. There’s no censorship on the site, and there’s a filtering system to compensate (that I use every time I’m looking through a tag I enjoy).

You’re going to see things you don’t like. And when you come across a tag or a warning or a rating you don’t want to see, you can simply add it to the “exclude” part of the filtering system.

A lot of younger users are coming onto Ao3 from sites like TikTok and Wattpad, and they’re bringing a few of their bad habits over. I’m not talking about placeholder fics or using it like a social media site — that’s a post for another time. I’m talking about bringing hate and bigotry into comment sections and harassing authors over their works and preferences. This shouldn’t be happening.

Ao3 is a website founded by a proshipper, made for proshippers. It’s a free website, and no one is allowed to profit off of it (looking at you, people who bind and sell fanfiction on eBay. Not cool.). The lack of censorship is the price every user must pay for that.

If content you consider problematic is a dealbreaker for you, then maybe you should find another website.

Things from Before the OSDDID Realization that now make heaps of sense:

Taking personality tests multiple times because even when I answered them completely honest they’d always come out different

Orientation impossible to pin down (simultaneously aroace/pansexual/lesbian/gay trans guy/queer fucking mess)

Same with gender

Conflicting opinions that somehow exist at once (I love weed/I fucking HATE all drugs and don’t want to be anywhere near them)

Frantic desire to run home and change into something totally different out of nowhere because the clothes I loved this morning are suddenly Awful

Keeps changing name every few months

If I do not journal/scrapbook/take photos of EVERY DAILY EXPERIENCE I WILL FORGET and my whole life will be a blank empty space!!!

So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.

Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

I think we all know tons of system experiences such as being introject/fictive heavy, or having a well-made innerworld, or have active inner-conversations..

But let's normalize not having introject dominant alters in a system,

Normalize not having innerworlds stereotypically,

Normalize having silent periods despite being plural,

Normalize change of hosts, or others who interacts outside with the world,

Normalize change of roles, that can happen for reasons,

Normalize having parts that doesn't front or contribute much,

Normalize not fitting to any roles that are mainly depicted (host, etc),

Normalize smaller headmate count of a system,

Normalize experiencing difficulties communicating between parts, some are not naturally having this aspect perfect right off the bat and need to practice a lot,

Normalize having difficult alters, they're not a burden and needs lots of care and patience,

Normalize having ups and downs as in feeling blurry or doing a bit worser with internal communication that fluctuates throughout the days,

Normalize not knowing who you are when you wake up,

And lastly, normalize your own system experiences because many always asks for assurance or fear of faking (even if it is helpful once in a while), even if learning to accept them without doubt can be something difficult to achieve, everything you experience is still as real even if you think it doesn't fit the image of what a system should be like,

We should normalize about anything else that is not usually potrayed or talked about.

What else needs to be normalized more? Let's make the list longer!

sometimes i think being a system is horrible and then i watch a very hurt and angry man become a gardener and pick up trash in a forest preserve muttering about asshole humans the whole time and start a notebook documenting a plant that he now calls his son. or see someone very scared of being forgotten write poetry for the first time and realize now she has a voice. or someone very lost talks to someone from their source and finds the utmost relief and safety. or someone very self isolating makes a new friend and discovers he is worth talking to. or someone posts his first art and gets an incredibly positive reaction even from a small amount of people. and maybe it’s hard to do everything but there is something nice about remembering time and time again there is joy in life and living and having to rediscover that and see parts of ourself rediscover that can be beautiful. and you know what i think this is alright maybe. i think this is going to be alright.
