Changeling: A child that was believed to be a fairy child that had been left in place of a human child stolen by the fairies.
Shapeshifting/Shapeshifter: is the ability of a being or creature to completely transform its physical form or shape. This is usually achieved through an inherent ability of a mythological creature, divine intervention, or the use of magic.
Lore
Dani as a changeling strays from the normal myth in which the changeling is aware that they are that, in fact Dani stayed unaware of their true abilities until they were 20 by human standards, but to put a spin on this myth of changelings They are also able to change their shape after either drinking the blood of a human individual or eating their flesh. Neither is needed for Dani to survive, in fact, they survived off of their adoptive parents’ protective lifestyle without experiencing a change once.
There are several things that make them identical to a human and yet if observed long enough or noticed you would recognize right away that there was something strange. Some of which are that Dani has no fingerprints, they also have a blood-type that is identical to a normal humans but if observed closer it’s not any of a normal humans natural type of blood, it just appears that way to protect them from suspicion. in processed water they develop a type of rash where their skin hardens in black spots and peels, which makes for a terrible bath period and terrible at pool parties.
Dani’s powers are quite weak for being a changeling/shapeshifter, although it is impressive to be able to copy a face and body type based on blood alone they still are unable to copy memories (even with devouring flesh), and not to mention changing personality types or even feigning personality types is difficult for them to achieve which can lead to some awkward or troublesome conditions when they mess around with more than just terrible exes or other assholes.
They have several forms some of which they prefer and are able to shift back into whenever and then their ‘true’ form before they officially became Dani, this form is only seen on rare occasions either when their submerged in processed water that has chemicals or in extreme heats (very rarely will Dani ever show off their true for for the luls). They only have one human form that they are able to able to shift to without having the blood source and that is their original face. There are two reasons for this
1) It was the first form that they shifted and their longest lasting form which makes it easy to turn back to when shifting.
2) They completely devoured the original Dani (or rather was force fed the original dani) which in turn with all the excess genetic information they were able to continue to store in their ‘shifting memory’
**As a note Dani has never completely devoured another human since their original form, the only times that they have ever shifted was with blood.**
Details of Shifting
Dani is able to shift to both human forms and animal forms, the restrictions of an animal form are more complicated than humans but animal forms are easier to shift into.
Birds/mammals are the easiest to shift into (small ones especially)
Any type of aquatic form they are unable to shift to although it has been tried, insects/reptiles/amphibians are also difficult if not impossible to shift to.
Shifting for a long amount of time (other than in their ‘true’ or first form is strenuous and they can only hold it for a few days before they have to shift back. Though Dani ends to push themselves longer than they should with shifting, normally to screw around with someone for a longer time than they normally would etc.
Their are some weaknesses to their shifting depending on the moon cycle, new moons make it the most difficult to hold a form while a full moon enhances their abilities. (on the week of the new moon their abilities are strengthened, their form holds longer).
Dani has immunity from most diseases especially those that are transferred from consuming flesh or drinking blood. This also applies to any animal diseases that they could come down with. This advanced healing also applies to small injuries such as cuts, bruises, etc
They also don’t age the same as humans, at a certain age they physically stop aging in their normal form, for Dani that’s at 20 when they shifted the next time although it differs for every shifter. This doesn’t mean that they are immortal, rather they don’t age they are still able to get into accidents, murdered, etc and die.
More on their true form:
Since changelings are technically Fae one would think that Dani’s true form would be something small and beautiful, however, that’s far from the truth, yes they’re smaller than their normal human form but their natural form isn’t something you’d consider beautiful unless you find it beautifully terrifying. Sharp rows of teeth for taking their next form, sickly pale skin and eyes that reflect nothing but the darkness of night, not to mention they also have terrifyingly long twisted finger tips that serve the same purpose as their teeth. Of course, that’s referring to when they want to appear terrifying to the observer.
