This is a side blog where I share my thoughts, feelings, and theories of shows and books as I watch/read them. This is not spoiler free. Currently watching Prodigal Son, New Amsterdam, Burn Notice, and Buffy the vampire slayer. For books I am slowly making my way through City of Brass, White Sand, and the Knights of the Old Republic comics. Main is crazynerdandproud.
Also I love Owen and haven’t quite seen enough of the others to make any judgement calls cause I literally just stumbled upon the season finale of season 2 and so I’m going back to the one with the bank robbery and yeah, odds are I’m going love this show more than I love 9-1-1 which I did not think would happen.
It’s time for Leverage season 5 and I am stoked. Watched through to the DB Cooper job and andhjwjshs the French Connection job, Eliot and Parker, I was going feral.
Also Nate is slowly starting to reveal the fact that he’s gonna leave and he’s kinda grooming the others, letting them take a bit more of a lead in preparation for when he and Sophie leave and that is cool but also makes me sad cause like, I’m on the last season. I don’t want it to end, I’ll miss them. Not to say I’m not excited for Leverage Redemption but yeah. I’m not sure I’m ready to say goodbye to this era. Of course once I’m done with the show I’ll probably rewatch the heck out of it first.
Also, we got a Todd Mcsweeten centric episode! And also the way that episode in particular highlighted the changes in Nate and actually stated instead of implying and hinting at why Nate wants to stop. Idk it Twas fun.
Wait, so did both Latimer and Dubenich die? Did neither? And does it really count as not killing them if Nate knew what was going to happen, or is it more of a he left the choice up to them situation?
I am sucker for characters getting in a situation to help someone they on some level relate too and then that clouding their judgement a bit. Idk for sure if it’s gonna happen with Colter but it’s clear (I forget their names, the cool lesbian couple) knew he would take this job because it would pull in his heartstrings a bit, a bit manipulative but eh, they wanna help the kid too.
I ship Seth and Kisa. Why you ask? A myriad of reasons, but the whole giving her some of his blood and then acting all defensive about it but also like it wasn’t a big deal really sealed the deal for me.
It is almost as if the world is telling us a morbid joke: we will kill you if you resist and kill you if you hide, and if you refuse, and if you concede, and we will devour your land and gulp your oceans and kill you with hunger and thirst.
The massacres will be televised, broadcast in broad daylight. Our judges will legalize them. Our politicians, inert, inept, or complicit, will fund them then feign sympathy, if any. Our academics will stand idle—that is, until the dust settles, then they will write books about what should have been. Their rotten institutions will commemorate us after our death.
And the vultures, even from our midst, will tour museums glorifying, romanticizing what they once condemned, what they did not deign to defend—our resistance—mystifying it, depoliticizing it, commercializing it. The vultures will make sculptures out of our flesh. A morbid joke, but I am not amused.
What I was taught growing up: Wild edible plants and animals were just so naturally abundant that the indigenous people of my area, namely western Washington state, didn't have to develop agriculture and could just easily forage/hunt for all their needs.
The first pebble in what would become a landslide: Native peoples practiced intentional fire, which kept the trees from growing over the camas praire.
The next: PNW native peoples intentionally planted and cultivated forest gardens, and we can still see the increase in biodiversity where these gardens were today.
The next: We have an oak prairie savanna ecosystem that was intentionally maintained via intentional fire (which they were banned from doing for like, 100 years and we're just now starting to do again), and this ecosystem is disappearing as Douglas firs spread, invasive species take over, and land is turned into European-style agricultural systems.
The Land Slide: Actually, the native peoples had a complex agricultural and food processing system that allowed them to meet all their needs throughout the year, including storing food for the long, wet, dark winter. They collected a wide variety of plant foods (along with the salmon, deer, and other animals they hunted), from seaweeds to roots to berries, and they also managed these food systems via not only burning, but pruning, weeding, planting, digging/tilling, selectively harvesting root crops so that smaller ones were left behind to grow and the biggest were left to reseed, and careful harvesting at particular times for each species that both ensured their perennial (!) crops would continue thriving and that harvest occurred at the best time for the best quality food. American settlers were willfully ignorant of the complex agricultural system, because being thus allowed them to claim the land wasn't being used. Native peoples were actively managing the ecosystem to produce their food, in a sustainable manner that increased biodiversity, thus benefiting not only themselves but other species as well.
So that's cool. If you want to read more, I suggest "Ancient Pathways, Ancestral Knowledge: Ethnobotany and Ecological Wisdom of Indigenous Peoples of Northwestern North America" by Nancy J. Turner
Oh, so that’s why the fandom has so many headcanons about and is so obsessed with Elliot’s hair. It’s not just that it’s gorgeous, it’s cause he had short hair when working for Moreau and the implications that has for the rest of the show, especially season 3 where it is looking extra feminine. I get it now.
“I wanted to take out the whole family like we usually do.”
HOLD UP WAIT
Does that mean Elliot has killed kids? Like, when he said the worst thing he ever did he did for Moreau I thought it meant he killed a kid cause that was one of the worst things I could imagine but no. No it’s worse than that isn’t it. No wonder Elliot thinks he can never be redeemed, never make up for the red in his ledger. May heart breaks for him and I am experiencing SEVERAL emotions
