I Can’t Stop Changing Things

I keep going back and changing my mind about things. Especially regarding the side-characters...

Like, at first, I was just gonna have the “main three” human characters as Sen, Brendan, and Wally. I was gonna have all three traveling together throughout most of the story. Now, I’ve gone and decided to add May in as the primary rival instead of Brendan. I’ve taken inspiration from the anime, where May is the one super interested in battles and Brendan prefers contests...but I’ve added my own tidbits to the characters as well.

My Brendan likes contests, but isn’t super competitive about it. He’s a chill dude who’s just in it for a good time. He does become a pro, but it’s more due to the influence of Lissia [who he ends up dating] than due to his own investment in it. He’s also a huge gossip who knows everything about everybody, which is good, because Sen doesn’t know who anybody is. 

May, on the other hand, is competitive in everything she does. She initially wants to be the champion, way more than Sen does, in fact, but she eventually decides to become a Ranger instead. See, she’s super invested in the natural world, and loves every location Hoenn has to offer. She knows a lot about every location, which is good, because Sen doesn’t know where they are, or where to go next.

Wally, then, is the brains of this operation. He’s literally the group’s only braincell, providing common sense in spades and plenty of facts about Pokemon. Unfortunately, he splits from the group about halfway through, leaving them to fend for themselves. this, naturally, leads to a lot of “what would Wally do?” moments. it’s extra funny because Wally is literally 10, whereas Brendan and May [who are twins in my version] are both 18, and Sen is 20. 

Just thought I’d share.

Background:

An asshole from Johto who divorced his wife 10 years ago and hasn’t spoken to her or his child since. Thinks there’s only one way to be a good Trainer - hard, back-breaking work and relentless training. He’s strict, both as a Trainer and a father. He shows no mercy, not even to beginners. Has the second-highest kill-count in the Hoenn League despite being one of the newest Gym Leaders.

Gender: Male

Profession: Trainer, Morality Chain

Goal: To get to Verdanturf Town and keep Sen on the straight and narrow!

Partner Pokemon: Ralts [Gabriel, Male, Gentle]

Background: 

Wally was born and raised in Petalburg City. Due to his poor health, he was homeschooled and hasn’t ventured beyond the city limits. Now that his studies are complete, he wants to move away from the city to a more natural environment. He’s a sweet kid with an optimistic attitude, and he’s desperately hoping his kind nature will rub off on Sen.

Brendan Birch

Birthday: May 10th [Taurus]

Gender: Male

Profession: Trainer, Lab Assistant, Tree Hugger

Goal: Doesn’t really have one in mind, just wants to travel

Partner Pokemon: Treecko [Trekko, Male, Adamant]

Background:

Brendan was born and raised in Littleroot Town. He’s left a few times, going to other towns with his dad, but is only now setting off on his own to explore the region. He’s a recent high school grad with absolutely no idea what he wants to do with his life. So for now, he’s happy to tag along with Sen and help out wherever he can. Maybe he’ll figure out what he wants to do along the way.

Background:

Sen was born in Hoenn and lived there until the age of ten, when their parents split and their mother took them to Kalos. They were witness to what happened with Team Flare, and it left them with a less-than-favorable view of the wealthy elite. Now, they’ve decided to head back to their home region to teach the well-to-do Hoenn League that they may be able to buy their way into the League, but it can’t keep them from getting their asses kicked by Trainers with real skill.

[They may have also stolen a few things to put them on a level playing field with the 1%, but don’t be a snitch - you know what happens to snitches]
