Curious thing Gale pick the beach kiss as the proof Peeta was the chosen one.

He could choose something more sentimental, like how heartbreaken and devastated she was during his kednap.

Cause, let’s think. For Finnick the power field sailed the ship for how desperate Katniss was with Peeta death.

And for Peeta, Gale was her true love for how desperate she was seeing him in pain.

They both valued emotional moments of vulnerability.

Meanwhile, the beach kiss has all the drama and emotion…and the new element is the sexual context.

So rewriting their dialogue:

Peeta: no, man. She chose you since the whipping. She was so terribly worried about you….

Gale: Dude, she only get horny with you! She almost bang you in from the whole country! It is your ass she can’t survive without 😒

I love how messy Katniss and Peeta were lowkey. Like Katniss saying she’s choosing Gale over Peeta, yet spending all her time with Peeta. She’s also thirsting after him and his eyelashes. LITERALLY , the guy Gale is most worried about lmfaoo Peeta thinking that Katniss is with Gale, yet shamelessly flirting with her and cuddling/being overly affectionate with her behind close doors.

Then it really gets messy in MJ, where Katniss is like “yeah just like how it felt wrong kissing Peeta bc of you” to Gale, and several chapters later she legit kisses Peeta in front of Gale, bc that’s is her mf man. And Peeta like spilling the tea about how he and Katniss slept together (obvi not like that) during the victory tour in front of Gale, like ik Gale felt his stomach dropped. And then Peeta back peddling at Gale “oh yeah it’s you who she’s loves, not me,” and atp Gale reaction is to laugh at Peeta’s face. Like Peeta and Katniss really are messy, and I love that bc they’re so down bad for each other, especially Katniss with her pearl and fantasizing Peeta’s lips and hands on her.

some fanfic is a little wild about the sex stuff. like katniss is canonically a prude. and people are out here acting like she would want to jump on her found brother finnick because of his seductive voice.

umm, that girl had felt sexual feelings like twice throughout the series and both are directed towards her soulmate. i literally can’t deal with any other narrative of her sex life.

i’ve seen some people say that the merchant-seam divide thats portrayed in hunger games fic is probably overblown, but even if it is (which i don’t think it is if we read between the lines of what SC showed in the books) i still really love the idea that everlark being the “star-crossed lovers” isn’t only something that would’ve happened in the games. no matter what— while inevitable— their road to falling in love would’ve been fraught with disapproval. it would’ve been hard. peeta might’ve had to be disowned or go to the mines. and it still would’ve happened anyway.
