Life Happens, now what?
Just like you, I have been learning and monitoring the impacts of the situation with coronavirus (COVID-19). BlackSage Bodyworks has always taken strict precautions for cleanliness and sanitation practices. Since learning of the circumstances, I even bumped up cleaning to CDC recommended chemical cleaning products. However, as things change I have decided it is best to close the studio down indefinitely. I will be re-evaluating the situation periodically and will notify you of when scheduling will start up again. Please know that this is not done out of panic, but instead assessment of the available recommendations, guidelines, and emerging data on diagnosed cases of COVID19. I value all of my clients. Seriously, you are all amazing! It is very important to me to keep you all safe from possible cross exposure as well as myself and all whom I come into contact with. Instead, I will be using this time to catch up on things and be with family. Additionally, I want to thank you all for sticking with me, or visiting me for the first time, as I moved into Rooted Heart Yoga and Wellness. So far, I have been loving the new space, though, it has been an adjustment from the previous studio. Thank you, again, for bearing with me as I learn how to make this new space just as cozy and functional as the last! I mentioned raising prices and readjusting the original pricing structure. During the move and handling major personal life growth, I have not been giving the new clients enough information thus decided not to enacted the switch until I could appropriately announce all new adjustments. An additional factor is that I am negotiating cross promotions and discounts with Rooted Heart as well as its sister business, Corner Beet. Please stay tuned for updates. The previous pricing list was based on the purchase opportunity I was negotiating. Since deciding to not to follow through with the business purchase, I will be reviewing the outline to ensure it aligns with the direction I want BlackSage Bodyworks to move into. Please, take care of yourselves. Rest, hydration, cleanliness, good food, and limited contact with others is a must at this time. I will be working on virtual support content during quarantine. I will see you all very soon! Your therapist, Sara

Happy New Year
I hope you are getting some play time in and taking care of yourself during this Holiday season. The inaugural year of BlackSage Bodyworks has come to an astounding end and I am so very grateful to have been able to work with each and every one of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
During this first year in business I have learned a lot and hope I continue to. Taking into consideration what I have learned, there will be some changes I am implementing in this new year! Pricing and structure are changing and there are some other not yet secured changes which I will elaborate on below.
What is changing?!
Sessions will now include various heat therapies, cupping, aromatherapy, magnesium oil spot treatments, and lower concentration CBD spot treatments. Additionally, I am no longer separating the Mindful Expressionism Specialties pricing.
~ I will be grandfathering in the Wellness Memberships for the next year at an adjusted rate. If you sign up for that before March 1st, you will be able to keep the discounted rate. Please review my website to review the wellness program!
New package pricing and other services will be announced shortly.
This restructuring decision came from the desire to utilize my trainings and avoid up-charges deciding the difference in giving you my best work. Larger treatments and consumables will still have different pricing structures as some things are simply more for me to provide.
—Tips will no longer be accepted!
As I progress, I view this work as more along the lines of healthcare, and thus I no longer wish to do the dance of tipping. Instead, I will be implementing a donation box that will be counted up quarterly for different organizations that will be announced. Please put any tips you would be giving into there. Credit cards will not be processed for this at this time until I figure out an effective method to keep those charges separate. I am open to all clients voting and suggesting reputable organizations as well, if there is enough interest to do so.
NOW THE HUGE NEWS
A little over a month ago, I was handed the opportunity to purchase a business and with that, move into a new studio. Nothing has been decided yet, but we are in the final stages of negotiation and things may be changing as soon as Feb 1st. The lease is up at the current studio and I have been weighing options of moving for awhile now for many reasons. The change would move BlackSage Bodyworks to practicing out of a wellness center off 29th and Tennyson (11 minutes down the road). This locations will offer parking, a full bathroom with shower, and other complimentary wellness professionals. If this is not decided within the next two weeks, we will stay at the current location.
Again, thank you so much for the honor of working with you this last year. I couldnt have dreamed things would have gone the way they did and I am very grateful. I hope this New Year bring you abundance in all things.
Your massage therapist,
Sara Shaeffer

Discount cannot be combined with other promotions and special offers, except when otherwise noted. All policies including cancellation policy apply to members.

BlackSage Bodyworks and Botanicals- Dandelion!
Tumblr media
As a continuation of my herbal education series, today I focus on the prevalent and delectable dandelion! Dandelions (Taraxacum Officinale or Pu Gong Yi in TCM) are edible both raw and cooked, from flower to root. They do have a bitter flavor which is an indication of their medical uses for the promotion of digestion and appetite stimulation. Keeping in mind dandelions’ high nutrient and antioxidant properties, it may be a fun summer activity to let the kids pick part of their salad in the yard (avoid if the yard has been sprayed for weeds). Dandelion wine, dandelion root coffee, and dandelion flower fritters are just a few tastey ways to use this well known weed. Aside from the fun, Dandelions have a long-standing medicinal use in traditional medicine. The root is known to be a rich source of prebiotic fiber inulin which even modern research indicates may increase movement of your GI tract, acting as a treatment for constipation and indigestion. Additionally, dandelion is known to be a blood thinner, a diuretic, use to reduce inflammation, boost immune responses, and much more. I challenge you to look at this little plant just a little differently and maybe give it a try! Photo by Herbs and Medicinal Plants KnowledgeCards #herbal

Many Thanks and Lilacs
Hi everyone! Firstly, I want to thank everyone for being patient with BlackSage Bodyworks. Behind the scenes during the month of June, my homelife was turned upside down with the unexpected notification that our rental was going to be remodeled! Unfortunately, our rental company was not forthcoming with this information, therefore, we were left with less than 30 days to vacate our home of two years. As we were thrown into this less than fortunate situation, we ended up coming out on top with an amazing new property that I am estatic to make my home. During this time of transition, not only was I difficult to get ahold of, but we ended up being without internet, water filtration, and home based laundry for close to 3 weeks. I also had the internet go out at the studio for a few days and I was unable to do anything about it. As you can imagine, this situation threw quite a wrench into running my small business. Again, I cannot thank you enough for being patient with the chaos that momentarily took hold. Now that BlackSage Bodyworks is back in full swing, I am a bit behind in getting out some goodies I have been concocting! During Spring, I harvested a ton of fragrant lilacs to create yummy concoctions with. Lilacs are great for the skin as they are astringent and traditionally used as a skin tightening agent or toner. Lilac oil is known to relieve anxiety, as well as have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Knowing this, I decided immediately to start infusing sugar and Jojoba oil with the lilacs I harvested to make a sugar scrub to share! Sugar scrubs are great for your entire body to help physically exfoliate, brighten, and promote healthy skin. If there's one thing you shouldn't give up sugar in, it's face and body scrubs! While supplies last, I am offering a foot focused sugar scrub treatment added to your regular session! Treatment includes light aromatherapy, lilac sugar scrub on your feet and calves, hot towels, and a rose water tonic finishing spritz!
Existing clients get this treat for a mere $5. New clients will be able to take advantage of this offer for $10.
Book your session now and don't forget to add that lilac scrub:

BlackSage Bodywork and Botanicals - Yarrow!
Tumblr media
This is Yarrow! Yarrow is amazing!
It is otherwise known as Achillea Millefolium and has been used medicinally since ancient times. It was found in a Neanderthal burial site in Iraq dating back to around 60,000 BC! It is a perennial and commonly grows to 3ft high in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Yarrow is a versatile ally as it can work with almost every system of the body ♡ A few medicinal uses are as follows: Yarrow is used externally to help stop or slow down bleeding from cuts and scrapes when applied as a compress or a poultice. The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory nature, as well as astringent tannins and resins, make it a wonder to work with! I have used it on myself to heal major wounds and can attest to the effectiveness. Yarrow also works with your body internally to help with ailments such as: hemorrhaging, to lower high blood pressure by dilating peripheral blood vessels, as a treatment to feverish conditions at the start of a cold or flu, to help with cramps (as an antispasmodic and as it has sterols), and yarrow is often used to treat digestive complaints and disorders. As a flower essence it is phenomenal as Yarrow has been richly endowed with spiritual properties. The essence is great for enforcing boundaries, psychic protection, and keeping the negative outside influences at bay. I could go on and on about this powerful plant ally, but I will let you absorb this as a start. Hopefully this inspires you to explore the world around you! I am currently making yarrow flower essence to carry in the studio ♡♡♡ #yarrow #blacksage #botanicals #medicinalplantseries #plantally#denver #massage #massagetherapist #herbalcrafter#blacksagebodyworks #bodywork #plantmedicine #herbal #herbalist#herbalmedicine #medicinal #capitolhill #colorado

CBD Massage Now in Session!
Introducing CBD Massage!
CBD (Cannabidiol) has been making waves in the wellness industry and I am overjoyed to announce that it has officially been added to the menu! As a natural analgesic, CBD facilitates the natural healing forces within, just like we do here at BlackSage Bodyworks. It binds to CB1 receptors in the body to help relieve pain and it has an anti-inflammatory effect that reduces swelling.
I have been wanting to add CBD services to BlackSage Bodyworks for awhile, but with many companies jumping to push out products, it was important to me that I take my time, choosing the best product for you! I was linked up with Extract Labs (www.extractlabs.com) and after talking with the extraction team, I felt secure in their process and products. Their body salves are made from oil that has been CO2-extracted from industrial hemp plants grown in the U.S.A. It is full-spectrum hemp oil combined with shea butter, jojoba, lavender, and rosemary. I have added Arnica, a native herb with pain relieving properties, to the mix as well for added pain relieving benefits! All of the creams are 'made from simple, all-natural ingredients, and are gently whipped together to preserve the properties of the creams, instead of traditional heating methods.'
For $20, you can add CBD to your custom massage service!
Our new CBD add-on will feature 200mg of Full-spectrum hemp oil per session, which is exponentially higher than most other options in the area! I have Extract Lab products for sale in the studio as well so that you can take home these added benefits.
Below I have provided some information on CBD, how it works, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please, dont hesitate to ask more questions!
Tumblr media
A little back story:
The utilization of Cannabis for pain can be traced back to 2900 B.C. in The Shennong Ben Cao, a Chinese encyclopedia on agriculture and medicine. It has shown up in medical text around the world since that first documentation.
How does CBD work anyway?
Biologically, we contain a specialized structure known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in regulating functions including appetite, sleep, pain, and immune system responses. Our body produces neurotransmitters that bind to the cannabinoid receptors (CB1 AND CB2) in our nervous system called endocannabinoids. Studies (1) have shown that CBD helps reduce chronic pain by impacting the activity of these receptors, reducing pain, and interacting with the neurotransmitters. All cannabinoids, including CBD, produce effects in the body by attaching to certain receptors.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5922297/
What is Full Spectrum versus CBD?
CBD is just one of over 100 identified cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Full spectrum means that the product contains all of the natural cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant. Full spectrum products are associated with the entourage effect this refers to the increased effectiveness of these products due to the different cannabinoids working synergistically.
Will CBD make me "high"?
Short answer: No. Per legal regulations, products are derived from industrial hemp may contain no more than <0.3% THC. THC levels in our products follow Federal regulation and are not nearly large enough to make the user feel high.
