some doodles related to an incredibles au @fishkinn and i have been talking about! it incorporates a lot of elements that didn’t make it into the sequel, like nelson still being winston’s sibling and the ‘supers become celebrities’ idea.
the basic jist is that in winston’s campaign to make supers legal again, he sets out to make them superstars in addition to being superheroes. gamma jack, who managed to escape nomanisan island, is hired to help train the wannabes and as a result ends up imprinting his eugenicist ideas onto them… and that’s on top of nelson being the screenslaver.

So by now everyone’s seen/heard the quote that the Incredibles’ superpowers are meant to represent their stereotypical role within the family unit (dad has to be strong to support the family, mom has to stretch in all directions etc) and I remember reading that Violet being able to generate force fields was supposed to be a metaphor for her ‘putting up walls’ and being defensive, which fits into the shrinking violet/moody teenager she represented during the first movie. After her character development she becomes a lot more confident and open, so those walls begin coming down and what her force fields represent in terms of her character becomes a bit less clear.
When the trailers for Incredibles 2 started coming out it looked like everyone’s powers still represented their role in the family AND in the plot except for Violet’s, which made me start worrying they were going to do her character dirty and undo all her character development from the first film (especially with those clips of her trying to destroy her supersuit and getting caught by Tony). But as more trailers and clips have come out it’s becoming clearer what her role is now
