I dont want to be too personal on this blog but since I've been posting daily or semi daily for a while: I'll most likely be inactive for a a bit (could be a few days, maybe a few weeks) due to some personal matters. I'll most likely be back, but new posts will def take a while. Thank you for understanding 🙌

Companions: So, now that you've slayed Gortash- Durge: Laid Gortash. Companions: ...S... Slayed Gortash. Durge: .... Laid? Companions: You... You did slay Gortash, didn't you? That's what you meant- slayed, right? Durge: ... I would have, if I thought that's what you were asking of me. Whoopsie. Companions: ...Durge-

I find it interesting to consider what Gortash would have done if he had found Durge right after Orin swirled their frontal lobe like a bad latte. Like, would he decide that Durge getting bested was simply survival of the fittest, and with slight disappointment, finish the job to be rid of a weak link? Would he just have left them to their fate, because if they are worth anything, they will fix themselves (despite seeming dead), while he needs to focus on the greater plan? Would he have decided to take them home and try to nurse them back to health, and if that didn't work, at least give them a proper burial, because in the end this used to be a person he greatly respected? How far did the admiration he had for them extend, if it was ever genuine?

of course I know Gortash logically cannot be redeemed. He doesn't WANT to be redeemed- Spawn Astarion and redeemed/resist Durge at least realize the errors of their ways at some point during their arcs and are able to become better people through, quite literally, the power of friendship, but Gortash? Gortash doesn't give a shit at all, he will make the entire burn world with him if it is necessary. I haven't finished the game but I am 99% sure you can't fully side with him without him still trying to kill Tav/Durge at the very end. He doesn't want to be redeemed and canonically he is egotistical enough to turn on Durge, his "nearest and dearest", as well. *
But parts of me WANT him to be... Not redeemable, per se. I know full well there is no logical way that he would suddenly become an charity donor or an active member in bettering the wellfair in Baldur's Gate, he probably will always want a Orphan Crushing Machine somewhere in the basement, but I want him to have someone he loves enough- that loves HIM enough- that makes him at least decide to try to take over the world slightly more fair and square. Through diplomacy and conquests and the whole shebang. Someone mentioned Gortash recognising that Durge, his loved one, is simply tired, and wants a normal life, without Bhaal and without the Absolute and without ANY obligations, just their own life, and I simply want for Gortash to decide that yes, he is still a terrible human being, but at least with the Absolute gone, he could have Durge and still be in control of the people simply as Archduke, especially when given partial credit for the destruction of the Absolute. He could give Durge a life of their own and also have parts of the life he wants, if he in any universe decided that Durge was worth it.
At the same time, I love @ cats-obsessions' "If Durge could recruit Gortash" post, where she suggests that if Durge failed the duel with Orin, it would lock out any option except Gortash and Durge controlling the brain together, as Gortash would see it as the only way to protect Durge. Perhaps I just want an actual Durgetash ending where Durge could either make Gortash slightly better or where they still could be together, as gods. I just really wish Gortash actually did care about Durge, genuinely, where he genuinely WOULD want to share the world together with them. Where he in any way shape or form would decide that, perhaps he could go against his god and be a ruler of an enslaved mankind with another, or where he would decide on the more extreme and abandon his god for someone else. Just. AUGH.
*probably very wrong about this but oh well

Gortash: If Durge had an iron deficiency I would simply crack my bones open so they could feed on my marrow btw. If you even care. Ketheric: ... I did not need to know this. But it is probably easier, and more sustainable, to just buy them some iron supplements. Gortash: That sounds stupid as fuck to me. And it completely lacks intimacy. I'd give them my liver if they asked.

Durge: Gortash and I are in love. Ketheric: You've tried to kill each other. Durge: "You've have tried to kill each other"- yes and? Do you have a problem with true love? Gortash: It's called foreplay, Ketheric, look it up.

.....So Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul were all supposed to be Gods available for Clerics and potentially Paladins somewhere before/between EA and the official release, yes?
So therefore one can assume the same choices would have been available for the Dark Urge.
So all I'm saying is that there could have been routes where Bhaal had to watch his perfect little child becoming a worshipper of the OTHER Dead Three GodsTM and routes where Gortash got his babe favourite assassin back but somehow along the way they managed to become a banite. most DEFINITELY because of subconsciously remembering Good Old Gort himself. and Gortash has probably never been hornier-

I think the funniest assumption I had about how the first act of bg3 would play out was that I genuinely thought I would find Halsin in the shed by the Blighted Village because;
1) I knew that Halsin's main form is a bear.
2) I knew beforehand that Halsin is super duper horny.
3) The moans from the shed sounded like a bear.
So therefore my logical conclusion was that no, Halsin wasn't captured or killed, he just decided to bust it down animal-style in some random goblin shed because why not?

So far I've only done a Gale, Shadowheart and Astarion romance run but I realized I like a specific brand of Wyll x Durge which is "Everyone in all of Baldur's gate recognises [durge] as Gortash' lover/consultor/concubine/whatever but now the bastard is having out with the NEW Duke so what is up with that???"
Just all of Baldur's gate thinking Durge has a duke kink or something and HAS to get it on with as many as they physically can. Who gives a shit of the previous one kicked the bucket, they are gonna go to the previous one's son who is the new duke. Poor Wyll stuck with everyone side-eyeing his lover who definitely shouldn't be as :) as they are.
Or, the romance doesn't even happen until way after Wyll is the new duke, so everyone is just "yo bro your advisor??? Yeah they were working for/dating the old dude you should look out for that", Wyll is just "I trust them :)" and then everyone watches in horror as they Clearly Start Getting OnTM.

Potentially, if Gortash didn't think Durge was dead (like straight up not believing Orin when she starts bragging about having killed them), he probably thought that Durge finally broke free. If he knew that Durge was scared and in fear of Bhaal, and they already had plans to rise above their Gods to deify themselves, then it wouldn't be too far-fetched for him to believe that Durge found a way, but that way didn't include him. Of course Durge wouldn't tell Gortash and of course they wouldn't ask him to run away with them, it would only have diminished what little chance they have at escaping in the first place, and Durge probably would have no reason to believe that Gortash would abandon his own ambitions for them, because "the power of friendship and/or love" is not something that even is in their vocabulary. Gortash would simply have to accept that he has no idea where his favourite assassin went or what happened to them, because actually searching for them would only risk them being found by bhaalists again.
But then Orin herself tells him that Durge is alive and back in the city, and it turns out they never willingly left, but instead were beaten to near death, lobotomised, and forcefully abducted, all thanks to Orin. And what does Gortash feel then? When his favourite assassin comes back and asks him why he wasn't looking for them, if he claims to care for them? Would he feel even an ounce of guilt, knowing he COULD have searched, knowing he COULD have found them, knowing he COULD have helped them, knowing they COULD have gone back to what they once were? Or does he just feel annoyed that his hypothesis was wrong? Does he refuse to dwell on the past and instead focus on the present, now that Durge is back and can put Orin in her place??

So, I've started to consider making fanfics again, but it also made me curious over what people prefer to read, as I was mainly a request writer. So

I've had this thought about the final confrontation with resist!Durge being fed up, fed up with Bhaal, with the Absolute and fed up with everyone wanting them to do their bidding, including Gortash.
They scream that they're done taking orders. That they're done serving others. To hell with Bhaal. To hell with the Absolute. And to hell with you, Enver Gortash, asking for an alliance when they might as well cover the entire city with blood - his included - as they mow down everyone who are asking them to be someone they wouldn't be, never was, is not anymore.
And Gortash just stands there, watching them. Why now? He thinks. Everything I knew you could be, everything I wanted you to be, he curses.
Why did you have to become the best version of yourself now, when you placed yourself out of my reach?
