"i know, and i love that big brain'a yours." it's not just from ed, she knows that, and she's proud of it. "of course. last chance, you sure you don't wanna try on your own?"
this time she does roll her eyes, a light groan accompanying the act. a typical response for any child when being compared to a parent. "well, it’s not like i can just turn my mind off." something ridley suspected came from both of them, not just her father. "maybe you could distract bats on the other side of town? that way i've just gotta worry about bird boy."

chris, on the other hand, thinks it would have been really fucking nice to have known that adrian was bisexual, too sure, he knows adebayo is gay, but it's not the same, especially not with his dad's voice in his ear. it's not worth being mad about, and he's not, but he can't help being a little upset. adrian, though, clearly isn't thinking twice about it. ugh. a very ugh conversation. still, depending on what adrian's idea of roommate shit is, maybe this could be worse. "That could be fun...what sort of roommate shit do you have in mind?"
He doesn't have much interest in lingering on this newly told fact, and so he won't. He doesn't think that it might have meant something to Chris to hear it from him before, because that isn't how his mind works. He doesn't do a lot of what might be called 'thinking about other people'. He isn't selfish, not really, but his mind simply works differently from those around him. Which might be why he's taken to essentially squatting in Chris's house when he's not here, and why they've needed to have this conversation so many times before. "We can be roommates!" He smiles at this, excited by the prospect. "Dude, it'll be awesome. We can do roommate shit."

this is embarrassing. he is not an uncertain person, this is not him, but this world is so different, and that fact is truly almost suffocating him right now. knowing lizzie is here with him helps, though. he frowns again, though, at ready to go. he does not think they are ready to go, but he nods, listening to the next steps. he puts it into drive, presses down on the gas petal, and starts to move the car.
Lizzie watched him, ready to step in if needed but also wanting him to be able to have confidence in this. She knew it couldn't be easy to learn about the world he was now part of but she didn't want to be the kind of person that she was getting away from. "It's very good," she nodded. "It means that we're ready to go," she said and explained the next steps to him.

to rita, her pain is the worst she can imagine, something that's changed her and shaped her at her core, but she's sure that to larry, he would say the same. anyone would. "we've always been at our best together."
she's probably the one that knows the most about john, although larry's always been less than thrilled to talk about him, even with her. they can be the person for each other, now, the one that'll listen. there's a warmth in her chest, pride. "i hope it did. i'd like to think, even though i didn't remember you all, that there's part of me that did do it for you."
They've had their arguments over the years, ranging from bickering to outright fights, but this is one he doesn't want to have. There's no point in it, and there wouldn't be even if there were some way of quantifying pain. Like her, he has no interest in competition between the two of them. From the start, they'd been a team, and that's how he intends for it to always be. "No," he agrees. "We'd have to enter together."
He knows what it’s like to have someone that hurts to be talked about, but to need to talk about them, and that’s what he wants for her. He wants her to be able to have the freedom talk, to not have it fester inside of her like John did in him. He cares about her too deeply to allow that. He loves her too much. “I believe you,” he says softly. If nothing else, because he doesn’t think she would lie to him. "I think...I don't think the others will admit it, but I think it helped them, too."

he gives her a two-fingered salute, following along with her, his own posture mirroring hers. as much as he was joking around a second ago, he's more focused, now, not wanting to end up hurt. he is capable of not goofing off, believe it or not. he waits for the right moment, raising himself up to ride the wave.
kiara dropped to her chest, bringing her legs onto her board. she didn't know if it was a good wave, but it was definitely looking like one and she wanted to be ready when it hit. "see you on the other side," she told him. whether they actually surfed the wave or ended up washed off the board. she was practically holding her breath, listening to the sounds of the water around them. her arms were at her sides, palms flat against the board to push her up to standing when she was ready.

Sure, he was attractive back in the day, before becoming a living mass of scar tissue, but his love life hadn’t exactly been glowing. Maybe he’s getting a little worked up, but, well. As for his body, he’s right enough that he has one. That much can’t be denied, but it’s not a very good body, not anymore. “Yeah? You wanna trade? You can have it.”
