I’m sitting in the hallway waiting for my Spanish class to start, and the class before mine is apparently a philosophy class. And I overheard a guy condescendingly say “Religious people need to get over themselves, you’re just going to die. That’s it.”
Now I’m pissed. Not only am I remembering that awful philosophy of religion class I had to take (see my philosophy of religion tag to know more) but I’m just so angry that people think that’s okay to say.
Sure, you can believe this is it. You can believe that all that is going to happen is you’re going to cease to exist. But why would you take someone’s belief in more away? What makes you so petty to want you to make someone else’s existence seem meaningless? Does it make you feel better to take that away from someone because now someone else has to suffer the way you do?
Let people believe what they want. Religion helps people get through their day. You have no right to take that away from them.
