Quick intro to Moxiang Tongxiu’s Danmei novels

Most of you should’ve already known about Mo Dao Zu Shi. Let me just get this straight: No words can express how much I adore this novel. Moxiang Tongxiu’s writing style and character designs hit me right in the feels. If you are just like me, you love Mo Dao Zu Shi and you want to explore her other works, here is a quick intro :)

In order of publication, presenting you:

1. 人渣反派自救系统 / The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System

Synopsys (taken & modified from NovelUpdates):

Shen Yuan is reborn into a scum villain in a typical harem novel. His character is Lord Shen Qingqiu.

But it must be known that the original Shen Qingqiu was sliced alive by his disciple and also the protagonist, Luo Binghe, into a human stick! A human stick!

Then, why, as a scum villain, should he still have to take the bullet for the protagonist and sacrifice himself?

Simply because he wants to save his own ass and prove that even scum villains can live, and live coolly at that!

- Breaks all the 4th walls you can ever imagine.

- Intensively hurts your stomach. It will.

- Angsty yet hilarious love story of a crybaby disciple and a thick-skinned, sarcastic master. Also really cute supporting characters.

- Rather simple, easy to follow plot.

- An excellent starting point into System-based fantasy novel (what is System? Read to find out!).

2. 魔道祖师 / Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation

Synopsys (for the benefits of those who haven’t yet known about this masterpiece) (taken from NovelUpdates):

Personal review:

- I FREAKIN’ LOVE THIS.

- Epic story spanning across northern ancient China, involving taking down monsters, killing zombies, hunting ghosts, solving murder cases, training teenage cultivators, raising children (okay, maybe not that…) and so much more.

- Slowburn romance that is just perfect because it is, yes, so slowburn. And have I talked about how much I love the couple?

- Prepare tissues because it’s so gonna hurt.

- Excellent cast of supporting characters. (Jiang Cheng I love youuuuuu)

- The sheer amount of ambition from the author. She smoothly blends so many issues including politics, the grey area of morality, redemption, hatred and forgiveness into a beautiful romantic tale.

- What are you doing?!!! Just drop whatever you are doing and read this!!!

3. 天官赐福 / Heaven Official’s Blessing

Synopsys (taken from NovelUpdates)

Personal review:

- Even more epic than Mo Dao Zu Shi in terms of scale. Spanning across 3 realms - the Heaven, the Human World and the Underworld.

- Splendid blend of humour, mystery, war drama and, beware, so much angst.

- A love story that took 800 years to unfold. 800 YEARS!!! Their love is so pure it will strike the deepest cord in your heart. Ragpicker Crown Prince Heavenly God uke (yes, you read that right) x Extremely Loyal Thick-skinned Demon King seme. What a combo.

- Also with those 800 years, you follow Xie Lian’s journey through the most remarkable ups and downs. What he goes through in 800 years is a humbling tale of a person who has probably seen it all. Make sure you embrace yourself for this. It really is going to hurt.

- Even the supporting cast have really solid backstories. And most of them are truly adorable. Basically all of her works have great supporting cast lol.

Some fantastic additional information I thought I should also share:

- The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System: A donghua adaptation has been confirmed and production will probaby start next year.

- Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: As I have always screamed about, there’s a manhua, an upcoming donghua, an upcoming live-action series, and an audio drama. And a game adaptation has been confirmed!

- Heaven Official’s Blessing: A donghua adaptation and a live-action series adaptation have been signed! Looking forward to more news in the near future.

(You probably start wondering how much money the author makes… yes, I wonder that too…)

(and rumour has it that Moxiang Tongxiu ie the author just barely graduated college (!!!) )

I know this has already been said, but it’s hilarious how many people know about Bellarke’s feelings for each other:

*the time Bellamy screamed “I can’t lose Clarke!” in 3x02 and Monty, Pike, Hannah, and Kane knew*

*the time Bellamy told Madi “I won’t let anything happen to Clarke, I promise” and she nodded, trusting his devotion to Clarke*

*the time Murphy brought up Clarke in 5x03 because he knew it was the way to get to Bellamy*

*the time Monty watched Clarke waiting at the gates in 4x04 as she said “Bellamy should be back by now” and he just knew*

*the time Clarke asked Monty if they’d heard from Bellamy’s unit yet in 4x05 and he responded with a sarcastic “Yeah, they’re back and we forgot to tell you” because she’s the first person he would tell because he knows*

*the time Clarke agreed to be held prisoner by Roan in 3x15 and Bellamy told Roan to give them a moment to talk about this and Roan gave them the most unimpressed look because Bellamy is trying to protect Clarke what else is new? and he just knows*

That Makes Two of Us

This has been the longest week ever and I’m dying for the Blarke hugs we’re getting in 5x04, so I just had to write something to tide myself over. Hope you enjoy!

Clarke hisses as the rough cloth comes into contact with her blistering skin. “Sorry,” Zeke says.

Clarke purses her lips to hold back a grimace and taps her foot to distract herself from the searing jolts of pain running from her neck and down her spine. “It’s okay.”

“No, I mean…” Zeke pauses and reaches for some gauze. “I’m sorry this happened to you.”

“You tried to stop it,” Clarke says. Zeke brings the gauze to her neck, gently covering the wound. “Thank you.”

Zeke nods. “I don’t know what would have happened if your husband hadn’t shown up.”

“My—“ Clarke’s eyes snap to his. “My what?”

Zeke is about to respond when Bellamy appears in the doorway. “Clarke.”

She turns at the sound of his voice, eyes widening and lips parting. “Bellamy.”

Zeke excuses himself, but they pay him no mind, already running to each other. Clarke can hardly stand on her own two feet so she practically stumbles right into Bellamy’s arms, but he’s ready for her. “I got you,” he says.

“I can’t believe you’re here,” she says. “How are you here?”

“It’s a long story.” Bellamy pulls away to take her face in his hands and examine her injuries. He brushes his thumb across the gauze on her neck. “What did they do to you?”

Clarke takes a hold of his forearms to stay on her feet. That and she just can’t believe he’s here. She feels she needs to keep on touching him or he might just disappear. “I’m fine.”

Bellamy finds her eyes. “That’s not what I asked.”

Clarke sighs, voice soft. “That collar they had around my neck…”

Bellamy’s eyes widen in realization. “They shocked you?” Clarke swallows, nodding. “Why?”

“Doesn’t matter.” Clarke averts her eyes, and it’s torture. Now that she’s seen him again for the first time in six years, she doesn’t want to stop, but she can’t look at him if she’s trying to keep something from him. Something that would tear him apart.

“Clarke.” Bellamy brings a hand to her cheek and brushes his thumb across her skin to bring her eyes back to his.

Clarke’s eyes water. “I told them it was just me and Madi, but when they found you…”

“They thought you lied,” Bellamy finishes for her, eyes closing. “Fuck, I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t do that,” Clarke says almost instantly, and he opens his watery eyes back into hers.

“If I’d come just a moment sooner—“

Clarke brings a hand to his cheek and leans her forehead into his. “Stop.” Bellamy sniffles. “None of this is your fault.”

“Not even…” Bellamy swallows and he’s sure his cheeks are wet.

“No,” Clarke assures. He doesn’t have to say it. She knows he means having to leave her behind. “Not even that.” Clarke sniffles. “Especially not that.”

“Especially not?”

Clarke pulls back to look him in the eye. She brushes her thumb across his cheek, smiles slightly at the feel of his beard. “You kept them all alive, and I—“ A tear rolls down her cheek. “I know how hard it must have been for you, but you did what you had to do and I…” Clarke shakes her head. “I’ve never been more proud of you.”

Bellamy’s lips part and he shakes his head. “I left you, Clarke.”

“You’re here now,” she says. “That’s all that matters, okay?”

Bellamy nods and averts his eyes for a moment to brush a stray piece of hair behind her ear. “I thought— I thought you were dead.”

“I’m not,” Clarke says, and there’s the smallest bit of a teasing lilt in her voice as she tilts her head to the side.

Bellamy breathes out a watery laugh. “I can see that.”

Clarke manages a smile at him through her tears, and she brushes his cheek again with her thumb. “This is new,” she says.

Bellamy’s eyes soften. He threads his fingers into her hair. “So is this.” Clarke opens her mouth to say something, then closes it. Bellamy raises an eyebrow. “What?”

She shakes her head and pulls him in for another hug. “I still can’t believe you’re really here.”

Bellamy’s eyes flutter shut at the feeling of her heart beating against his chest, strong and steady. “That makes two of us.”
