I really, really wanted to like this book. I still want to know what happens! The story sounds fantastic, but the writing still just isn’t for me. I DNF’d this one a bit early, just 54 pages in, but I could tell that it would be a challenge for me to get any further in it and decided it was best to set it down.

I had the privilege of reading this book thanks to Net Galley. I haven’t read any of Jody Smith’s work before now.
This was a really quick read, which is expected at 112 pages. I was left wanting a bit more though. The concept has great potential and could have been expanded on. There definitely could have been more thriller and horror scenes, which a longer book would have allowed for.

I was lucky to receive a few books this Christmas, and this book was one of them. It’s the first Becky Chambers book I’ve read, and with all the rav reviews it has gotten, I was excited to dive in.

There’s been some talk of A Winter’s Promise being compared to Harry Potter. I really don’t see it. I think people are really, really pushing it on this one.
