They Made Me Read It #3
They Made Me Read It #3
Trigger Warning: sexual assault, physical assault, rape, non-consent all discussed I’ve seen this book on BookTube for a little while now. It’s a chonker! Most smutty books are not that big, but this one clocks in at 654 pages! That was intimidating, and I held off on picking it up, mostly because of it’s size. Then I kept seeing it recommended everywhere. All over both BookTube and BookTok. So…

They Made Me Read It #2
They Made Me Read It #2
Technically, this would more aptly be called “They Made Me Give It a Second Chance” but that’s not really fitting in with the series… so here we are. A while ago I was introduced to Penelope Douglas – particularly when Birthday Girl was first making a splash on BookTube. I read that one and really liked it, so I checked out some of her other books and enjoyed them too. Then along came Credence.…

The Martian
I’ve heard great things about this book, and the movie too. I was able to pick it up at a sale this spring – remember the And Then There Were Nuns fiasco? This was the other book she had set aside for me… so at least it wasn’t a total bust, right? Fun fact about me: I really enjoy a good space sci-fi. I’ve read a few before, and always seemed to enjoy them, but for some reason I never considered…

They Made Me Read It #1
They Made Me Read It #1
This is the first in a new series I thought about doing where I discuss books that I’ve picked up solely because of BookTok or BookTube… as it could be either or… I thought an ambiguous title was more appropriate… Hope you enjoy the first one! * * * * * I spend entirely too much time on TikTok – who doesn’t? Inevitably, I have fallen into BookTok. My own doing, and I’m very happy there! I’m…

And Then There Were... what?!?
And Then There Were… what?!?
As a book lover, there are certain books that I have read on e-book that I want a physical copy of. All of the ones currently on my list are 4-5 star reads, a book that I will cherish having a copy of. Now, I’m not much for limited/exclusive editions, etc. I like any old book, hard cover, soft cover, mass paperback, etc. The only ones I really don’t like are movie tie-ins… those drive me up the…

The conundrum of tracking...
The conundrum of tracking…
I started out this year thinking I would track all of my DNFs. I had planned to keep track of how far I got into each book so I could then add that to my end of year pages tally… but that didn’t end up happening. I’m not a great reading tracker… I want to be, but I’m not. I rely heavily on Goodreads, mostly because my Kindle connects directly to my Goodreads account and tracks my kindle books.…

Good Omens wasn't good for me...
Good Omens wasn’t good for me…
I really, really wanted to like this book. I still want to know what happens! The story sounds fantastic, but the writing still just isn’t for me. I DNF’d this one a bit early, just 54 pages in, but I could tell that it would be a challenge for me to get any further in it and decided it was best to set it down. I love Neil Gaiman’s story concepts. It’s his writing style that I just can’t get…

Who will save your soul?
I had the privilege of reading this book thanks to Net Galley. I haven’t read any of Jody Smith’s work before now. This was a really quick read, which is expected at 112 pages. I was left wanting a bit more though. The concept has great potential and could have been expanded on. There definitely could have been more thriller and horror scenes, which a longer book would have allowed for. The…

To be taught, if fortunate
I was lucky to receive a few books this Christmas, and this book was one of them. It’s the first Becky Chambers book I’ve read, and with all the rav reviews it has gotten, I was excited to dive in. It’s a short book at 143 pages, but the story isn’t short or lacking. The author does a good job of getting the story in in a short amount of time. A brief synopsis: you’re following an astronaut and…

2020 in review and 2021 goals
Well, that was a year! I honestly can’t even blame my lack of posting on the pandemic. Granted, once the pandemic reached my part of the world it was quite a hectic time. So, how did I do with my writing goals last year? I’d say fair. I read A LOT, but I did not read what I own and not buy books. While I don’t purchase a ton of books, I do enjoy getting them, especially thrifting, so it was kind…

2020 Reading Goals
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything.  I’ve read a lot, but I haven’t been the best at posting my reviews.  Apologies!! I hope to be better this year with keeping up with this blog.  I’m already late to the game… January is halfway through and I’m just now posting my 2020 goals… but better late than never, right?
Last year for my reading challenge, I created a whole list of categories of…

They compare it to Harry Potter but I don't see it...
They compare it to Harry Potter but I don’t see it…
There’s been some talk of A Winter’s Promise being compared to Harry Potter.  I really don’t see it.  I think people are really, really pushing it on this one.
Our main character has a scarf and glasses and is in a magical world.  That’s so many books out there, how can you draw comparison to Harry Potter from that?!
So let’s move away from all that nonsense.
A Winter’s Promise was another book…

Sadie
One of my reading challenges for 2019 was to read a book by a Canadian author.  Lucky for me, Courtney Summers just so happens to be Canadian.
Sadie is a book I’ve seen all over BookTube.  Once I heard the premise of it, I knew I wanted to read it and soon.  I picked it up on sale after Christmas at my local bookstore and couldn’t wait to read it.  Once I looked into the book a bit more, and the…

A Grownup's Beauty and the Beast
A Grownup’s Beauty and the Beast
I’ve seen YA retellings of Fairy Tales, but I hadn’t come across an adult retelling until now.  Not Your Average Beauty was my first adventure into this romance sub-genre, and I wasn’t disappointed.  I was given this book by the author in exchange for a review.  I gladly accepted and began reading it right away.
I love Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and was excited to see how a retelling would…

Zenith had me among the stars
Zenith had me among the stars
This review is waaaay overdo! Sorry it has taken me so long to put up – I’m really behind!
I should preface this review by saying that science fiction isn’t my usual genre.  I’ve read a couple sci-fi books before, but it’s not my usual go-to.  That being said, I really enjoyed this one! I’d categorize it as YA Sci-Fi, which is definitely a different category than your hard core sci-fi.
I had seen…
