Novice/Amateur groomers: Recommendations on how to learn

I am getting a grooming table in a couple of days. I have clippers, I just ordered a decent scissor kit from Amazon (nothing crazy), and ordered a book on DIY dog grooming. 

What would yall recommend? DVDs, Videos, Books. My mentor taught me the basics about shaving the poobles but I want to do some fancier shit and get in control of their GD top knots.

Bath time has never been Betty’s favourite. But I think she likes the results when it’s all done! 😂 Also the dyson hairdryer is so quiet she let me dry her off properly which was a big help.

My first order from Glad Dogs Nation!

Glad Dogs Nation is a great company that takes old children’s toys and repurposes them as dog toys.  They’re thoroughly washed, choking hazards (like glass or plastic eyes) are removed, restuffed, outfitted with a new squeaker, and sewn back up.  Sometimes you can choose exactly what toy you get—-I chose the unicorn pillow pet very specifically—but you can also just get surprise toys.

I ordered:

Unicorn pillow pet

2 medium Mystery toys

1 large Mystery toy

2 catnip toys

These aren’t going to be as strong as typical dog toys.  They’re made for children, not dogs.  But if your dog happens to be a gentle chewer (or, if you’re like me, and only give your dog toys when you’re actively playing with him), they’ll be fine. Considering how much cheaper they are than usual dog toys, it probably all evens out.  Truffle’s favorite thing is tearing apart and unstuffing toys so I don’t really want to spend that much.

The shipping cost is the real downside.  Glad Dogs only ships via UPS, which tends to be more on the costly side.  Still, if you get enough dog people in your neighborhood to pitch in, you can get free shipping once you hit 100$ worth of products.

100% of the profit goes to Glad Dogs Foundation, which seeks to reduce unwanted pet population by financially supporting low cost neutering programs.  They also have a program to provide dog houses for outdoor dogs.  You also have the option of giving 10% of your total cost to an animal rescue of your choice.

I chose to donate to the North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG), a group dedicated to taking care of animals in disaster situations.  Right now, they’re focused on the Paradise Campfire.  When I talked to Glad Dogs about the plight in California, they offered a donation of dog toys.  I made a few calls to see who would accept and, a few days later, 70 dog toys made it to one of the small animal shelters! 

anyway, this is my long-winded way of saying that I’m delighted with this company and will purchase from them in the future.
