A famous image: Ani (of the "Papyrus Ani") has his heart weighed by Anubis before the gods. Ani's titles are presumably those he bore over his career: True Scribe of the King, His Beloved Scribe Who Counts the Divine Offerings of All the Gods, Overseer of the Double Granary... Ani's heart (left) is weighed as his witness, the emblem of his Ka ("spirit" or "vitality / essence"). Like many heart-related spells or texts, the Heart of Ani offers a "negative" confession: I have not done this, I did not cause that, I was not such... The spell, or request, is thus: "My mother, heart of my mother (ie, the same essence between generations), heart of my forms, do not stand against me as a witness, do not oppose me in the tribunal, do not turn away from me in the presence of the controller of the balance. You are my 'ka', which was in my body...." Ani beseeches his Heart to represent him faithfully - a sensible request given how unruly our own hearts can be

This is a mummy of a ram. The ram was an animal partial to the god Khnum who was god of the Nile. It was he, whom the Ancient Egyptians believed, fashioned man out of the silt and clay of the river.

Meet Horus! It was Horus who avenged his father’s death by killing his uncle Seth. According to a myth popularised in the Late Period, Re judged between both Horus and Seth making Seth ruler of the desert and the thunder whilst Horus became ruler of the Earth.

The Black Pyramid of Amenemhat III of the 12th dynasty built at Dahshur is the first pyramid constructed by the pharaoh. This is called the Black Pyramid because of the mud-brick core of the colour revealed in the absence of the casing blocks otherwise this pyramid was called by the Ancient Egyptians as, “Amenemhat is Mighty.”

This is the false door found in the tomb of Mereruka. Relatives of the decease would place food on the slab so that the ka of the individual could eat and drink in the afterlife. What is interesting is that the backs of the ka would have chapter 6 of the Book of the Afterlife on their backs which ensured the shabti of the owner was called upon at any time to do any kind of compulsory labour. The shabti therefore would respond and perform the duty instead of its owner.

This is a really awesome 360 view of the Temple of Isis and allows the viewer access to the temple on your computer. You can now wander the halls and the courtyard where Egyptians, and now tourists, once walked.

Some better news concerning ISIS in Syria and Palmyra.  Hopefully, ISIS will be expelled from that area soon after.  And some more goods news, which I am actually quite late on, is that Jacques Mourad, a Syrian priest that was abducted by ISIS when they attacked Palmyra and the other sites around it- including St. Elian’s Monastery- escaped from them and is safe.  He said that ISIS has taken prisoners from all around the Middle East and some were able to escape with him, but the others were too afraid to leave.
